Does the Queen still visit BCD?

What an absolutely marvellous performance from this swimmer. At nineteen, she's some years off her peak yet has achieved more than any other British swimmer in 100 years. Two golds at the same Olympics, breaking a record that has stood since the year she was born by an amazing two seconds in the process. Just wonderful.

She arrived at the games well under the radar, had none of the crippling expectation that Britain normally affords on it's medal hopefuls, she turned up and got on with the job with equal measures of determination and perfect technique.

A true champion.

Pisses me off though that the govt will be queuing up to make hay out of this girl, despite them probably closing her local pool and withdrawing all funding for her sport.

Every year you get politicians on the grid at silverstone for example, keen to show their faces, then they sit back and let us lose the fucking GP altogether.

Interesting that you should mention F1 - I thought about you when I was writing about that record that lasted 19 years and was then broken be two seconds! F1 records tend to last half a lap before being broken by a pico-second.

True True, apart from some of those set by that fucking German.

And of course JPM's fastest lap in history, which may stand for some considerable time given regulation changes, Rosberg's previous record for the same lasted nearly 20 years because it was set before the safety nazi's raped silverstone.

My mum was telling me just there now that British team (I must remeber it's team GB and I am not represented by any team in the olympics), have been scammed out of a medal in the sailing,with the race being declared too calm....right at the end. She does read The Dail Fail though.

Nah watched it this morning, eating a bacon roll, then went swimming.

It was ace in the pool - the water aerobics class was in the next lane to me. I love swimming next to them, it's like swimming in the sea.

In case anyone's interested in staying up all night to watch swimming, Stockport's best chance for medals are Keri-anne Payne and Cassie Patten in the 10K Open Water at 0200 on Wednesday 20th August. That's their heat, if they make the final it will be later the same night. Or day.

Kerri-anne did really well in her butterfly heat. Both girls, and Michael Rock, are in their first Olympics and should do really well in 2012, when they'll be the perfect age for peak performance.

On the radio she was interviewed and said her local swimming pool is currently being refurbished and is to be named after her. Which is nice.

i was going to post the same thing, they announced this after the first medal.

I think you said it was interesting that I drew the comparison to politicians trying to milk publicity out of things they do nothing for.

Seems, however, that in the case of this lassie I was wrong.
