What do you guys have against Keane?

I mean yes they do things a little differently, no guitarist and whatnot, but I think they are a class band. Their first two albums, while they certainly didn't "rock out" much, they were well put together, had nice atmospherics, and had a real british vibe that for whatever reason reminded me of classic Genesis, or even some Queen. The new single Spiraling is a different direction I see, but I'm glad that Keane keep experimenting and trying new things and evolving their sound. Also, Tom has a wonderful voice....Very empowering and strong. Barney could never hit notes like that! And i'm not saying Keane are better than New Order (that would be a blasphemous statement on so many levels), but cmon what would you rather listen to, Keane's last album "Under The Iron Sea", or "Republic"???!??!?!!??!!?

I'm not saying Keane is the greatest band in the world, I just don't know why they get such a bad rep. They are quite talented and make pleasant music IMO.

Words like 'quite' and 'pleasant' have no place in rock. I'm more of a rock star than them and Coldplay together and I work as a control systems engineer.

To Jeffari: My defense of Keane is responding to an earlier post where Keane's new single was given praise but they were still considered "shite" and I had a difference of opinion and wanted to make some counterpoints. I don't care if people like Keane or not, but I was just curious as to why there is a backlash to a group that I think is actually quite talented....

To Ponyboy: I understand where you're coming from. Your post implies more or less that Keane has no balls. "quite and pleasant don't belong in rock".....I however would like to add that there the term "Rock" is so broad that it can be used to describe anyone from Iron Maiden to the Scissor Sisters. Keane's music is not aggressive, but then again, neither was New Order's.....Technique is a brilliant record and it certainly doesn't "rock"......Brotherhood, Low Life, and PCL all had guitar in them but it wasn't ballsy punk rock. It was mainly a combination of well crafted pop with indie electronic leanings, which retained a sort of post punk aesthetic. Were the Beatles a ballsy hard rockin band? I think what Keane lacks in their testosterone aggression, they certainly make up in their arrangements, Tom's passionate vocals, and really beautiful melodies. Yes, they're a bit slick. But I can relate to a lot of the lyrics Tom sings about because a lot of the time while I may not admit it, I feel the same way. Keane is more of a pop band, but I think if you listen to their songs closely you will hear plenty of passion, frustration, and depth that many bands that rock harder lack.....

I fooking love KEANE,but I think I'll have to play Perfect Symmetry to death before I'll like it as much as the last 2 albums. Some bands should just keep their signature sound, e.g. PET SHOP BOY's RELEASE (wot guitar instead of keyboard?) and ..ah fook there were 2 other examples I was going to mention.But you get the general idea.

I will gladly never mention your name in a post again. But please explain how Technique is "so rock it hurts".....When I listen to Technique, I hear dance, Balearic, some trance, some jangle acoustic pop, and a lot of electronic sequencers. The only thing that comes close to "rock" on that album is Guilty Partner, and that sounds like a watered down Joy Division song. Also parts of Run with the Wailing guitar. I love Technique, but I don't really think it's rock at all. Get Ready on the other hand, is a different story!
