Special mention to Bruce Mitchell, who I saw last night.
As he walked past, I said to my mate "there's Bruce Mitchell", all excited. I then noticed that I was standing RIGHT next to Steve Morris.
THAT'S how good Bruce Mitchell is (based on the ONCE that I've seen him play live)

i met the foo fighters in london 10 years ago, they were staying in the same hotel as us, and taylor hawkins was playing for them then
I rather like Rick Buckler's drumming.
I've played with a couple of excellent drummers (fnarr) Pablo Videla, an Argentinian who had two bass drums with double pedals and could produce a faster roll than most drummers on a snare. Also Tony Dove - lovely drummer who could always get any audience up and dancing. Trotsky from Subhumans and Culture Shock is pretty good too...

Nice try, but MIDI equipment has TERRIBLE timing, for one, rather fucking obvious reason (it's serial, digital), it cannot EVER play two notes at the same time, it's a scientific impossibility (whereas with an organic drummer it's just fucking unlikely).
Oh, how about Rat Scabies of The Damned?
I know they're 'officially' punk not pop, but some of the drumming on his solo tracks is fantastic. Nice guy too!

One of the funnuiest things floating around my memory is a snippet from (probably) the Old Grey Whistle Test. Something about "this is why we get through so many drummers", and Rat getting a bass on the bonce. Or it was possibly "this is why we get through so many bass players", and Rat handing out the four-stringed smackdown....twas a long time ago, but did more to make up for their lead singer being a nob (hair-do, make-up....sounds like fat bob), than almost anything else.
It was 'Getting through so many bass players' Steve.
Chris was the drummer all the way through.
