Leaving economics aside, social issues i refer to here.
Does anybody rate the teachings of Islam?
Personally I feel behaviours like fasting, absence of alcohol and modest clothing are all good starting points.
Even just prohibiting alcohol you signficantly reduce car accidents, violence, rape, A+E admissions, premature death, mental health problems....
anyway, discuss.....

Islam is a religion.
UK is a proud nation with much history and much tradition. It is also a godless country, largely. We have pretty much rejected the idea of religion, as a gentle decline from c.1900, coinciding with the rise in education.
Why would you expect a nation of infidels to suddenly 'see the light' and change our national identity entirely?

I speak to many Muslims, the more radical of whom, claim this country will be the first Islamic western state in 50 years. The great thing about religion is, that you have to believe in one, before you can convert to another.

Not entirely no.. Islam does target the mentally unhinged, weak, and disadvantaged too.

It's a bit like that over here, cos we haven't yet suffered that lot yet. This particular case was a mentally backward lad who was convinced into suicide bombing a cafe, and ended up setting himself on fire.

What about the negative attitude towards women and womens' rights? The hypocritical violent attitude towards homosexuality? The poor fashion sense? A huge step backwards for civilization.
Christianity is bad enough as it is... they don't back up their words with their actions, Muslims seem just as self-righteous.
Prohibition, the word is so linked in my mind to Al Capone.
You could cherry pick the best bits of all religions and still find dissenters, myself included.
I wouldn't vote for a government that stood for prohibition, which is how it seems to work in the UK, y'know an actual vote
Worked in Islamic countries and respected their ways, not a problem.... not a full life choice for me either, still to each their own.
You could also cherry pick the worst of all religions too and the results of that will still find dissenters, myself included
Most if not all religions are insidious, divisive, manipulative, scaremongering not to mention extremely ignorant of the scientific fact staring them plainly in the face.
I rate the teachings of Islam about as much as I rate the Christian bible.
Which is about as much as I rate Harry Potter.

Not really, I am just interested in the practial applications of some of the ideas. Not all. Its just a lot of people in Britain dismiss it completely out of hand.
I definetly think given Britains chronic alcohol problem then that particular vice should be looked at.
The other big issue, womens clothing. There is no reason for women to be scantily clad, or indeed men, at any time. There is no good reason for it other than freedom (freedom to what, encourage male predators).
Arranged marriages are also a good thing in general for societal stability.

At least football is based on something tangible that actually exists and you can identify as happening in front of your eyes. I say this as someone who has zero interest in football although I can see why other people clearly love it and always will.
On the other hand, I genuinely can't see why anyone who wasn't brought up with it would convert to Islam unless they were caught at a bad time mentally. Just about any religion could be swapped for Islam in the above statement.
