10 cover versions that total miss the point

Saw this on the nme-site and i found it funny. There's even a topic on a cover of LWTUA done by fall out boy...it sucks big time (the cover i meant)

Leona Lewis' cover of Snow Patrol's 'Run' has been getting a lot of airplay on Radio 1 and 2.

I think it's really good.

smiths songs are very difficult to cover, i think. (perhaps because 'the point' is so ambiguous/layered, she suggested, wankily.) i've heard various versions of 'girlfriend in a coma' that stagger me.

and ronson's 'stop me' was interesting...

I thought the stripped down version on Radio 1 Live Lounge is brilliant.Just seen a bit of her video advertising her album,and it sounds too overblown.

Nod on the list. However I feel that Echo and the Bunnymen's cover of People Are Strange also missed the point. Sounds the same note to note as the Doors' original.

Duran Duran "911 is a Joke"... that was meant to be absurd and surreal I think. Taking a piss shouldn't count.

Tori Amos did a cover of an NWA rap song, also. Totally missed the point.

What's with the GnR "knocking on heavens door" one though? Granted the version of the Youtube clip is completely laughable, horrid and jacked it all to hell, but not seeing it as a 'missed-the-point' cover... at least there are far worse ones out there... like Micheal Bolton's Dock of the Bay
