Cut Copy...

Like? Dislike?

Always compared to New Order it seems, thou to me from what little i've heard it's only an obvious Peter Hook influence.

"Hearts on Fire" is a love song, or maybe a crush song, or maybe a song about your hand brushing some girl's hand in a crowded club. This is a classic synth-pop jam, almost exactly the sort of classic synth-pop jam New Order used to churn out on the regular. And we've heard all this stuff before: those droll detuned guitars, those giddy club-diva whoops, those faraway sax-tootles. Not sure that i'd rush out and buy it, but it's not a bad song.

I love Cut and Copy. I listened to them on Jerter's Ipod on the way to Brighton and fell in love with them. I did my usual trick of ordering the album from Ebay and ended up with a CD single!

this doesn't sound anything like New Order. It just sounds like a bad 80s dancepop ripoff.

Cut Copy - on heavy rotation at my house and one of my top 3 albums of 2008.

both of their albums are pretty great. much better than most of that 1980s throwback stuff.

It's not on Bright Like Neon Love. It came out sometime before that and I was never able to find an MP3 of it.

Well, yes and no. 1981 is reworked in a much "rockier" form as The Twilight on their first album. Same basic melody and some of the same samples.

Are the members of Cut Copy gays or is it open to speculation? They definitely seem like they're all gays.

Hearts On Fire was the pinnacle of a very good album by Cut///Copy. The bass at the end of the album version is euphoric. I'm not won over by 1981 though.

I bought a promo single of Hearts on Fire which had about 8 different mixes on it. I kept hoping one of them would be good. But nah. A bit dissapointing having previously bought the Going Nowhere single and some of their remixes of other people's stuff. That 1981 track is good though. Hadn't heard it before.

How's this for a bump?

I knew I'd heard of this band somewhere. Probably going to see them in Manc this weekend. Anyone else?
