Listen kids, take an advice of mine:

Don't go around with your headphones on all the time. I know I used to listen to New Order, Joy Division and the Sex Pistols in my cassette player for many years all the time - in underground, streetcar, and lost my hearing for high pitch sounds in my right ear.

Time, said Biginoil, for a Guardian link!

Interesting piece about hearing loss.

I don't listed to mine loud at all. This is because I think people who play their music so loudly that other people can hear it are social inadequate, irresponsible half-wits. I normally set the volume and then ask people sitting closest to me whether they can hear it and ask them to let me know if it bothers them.

If my singing bothers them they can fuck off.

Naaaah it just means they are too dim to buy decent headphones, half of them are probably using the ones bundled with their device...YUK!

I found that hearing loss was MUCH easier to achieve by offending our trombonist, my left ear has been fuckered ever since I called him a "pretty boy nova bandit" while in horn range.....he placed the bell end of his bone right against me ear and blasted it for all he was worth.

(do I win £40 for the wonderfully unexpected inuendo?)

That's assault, you should have called the police. I hope you broke his fucking nose anyway. What a cunt.

I'm all angry now. Where does he live? Are you still in touch with him? Tell him I think he's a bastard.

Then break his nose again.

Well, I was blind fuckered drunk, so couldn't care less at the time, and even if I had, we were in Jesusland, and I hadn't won the lottery so I couldn't have gone to a doctor. It's only about 1-2dB overall attenuation on the left ear, but with a fair bit more loss in the higher frequencies.

Worst thing was the gig the next day, with me on the far right of the stage, left ear all but dead....thank fuck the only important thing for a plankist to hear is the kick drum.

I think their gun "laws" only apply to Jesuslanders. Then again, with my accent I coulda said it was for blowing some guy's brains all over his kids in Belfast, and they'd have given me a free M16.

I like the Sonys at the moment - best battery life, by far the best headphones and sound quality, and now they've dropped crappy sonic-stage they work with drag-and-drop and WMP.

Also no volume limiter. Apparently only French law makes them compulsory but Apple put them on all EU models, Sony (and others?) only put them on the French models. Admittedly the downside is in 20 years time only the French will be able to hear anything. When the rest of the world calls the EU we'll have to rely on the French to tell us what they said.

But this Zen looks quite nice I admit, being 32Gb - more than the highest capacity Sony.

Something about Apple just annoys me. They sometimes seem more like a religion than a company.

I don't like using it as a music player because it knackers the batteries and upsets the air stewardesses.

The sat nav is just silly though. Someone I know has the newer model and it looks much better.

there is a very catchy song about ashley cole and an N95...
