Anyone been watching the news? It's fucking pathetic. Global economic meltdown; barbaric loss of life in wildly unpopular conflicts in the Middle East....and what do we get? A lame little scuffle that makes the Poll Tax riots look like the end of the fucking world. What a bunch of gayers.

There's infinitely more 'public disorder' at your average Stoke game. This is what the world looks like when there's no genuinely oppositional politics.

One wonders if the protestors have any ideas of the £10 Million that is being spent to police this protest could be put to better use?

All our traders wear jeans anyway.

We have a strict no jeans policy.

But they all wear jeans.

After all, who in their right mind is gonna send a fcuking trader home to change!

Does look like an utter wheeze. Nice bit of OT for the Policemen too.

Clearly both sides included people who were spoiling for a fight all along.

Hopefully order will be restored by the weekend.

They're not spending any of it. The governemt is, in an attempt to repress lawful protest. Local residents being denied access to homes without photograhic ID etc etc etc.....I love my free country.

All some of the more militant attention seekers have succeeded in today is fucking up the London transport system for everyone, threatening to lynch seemingly anyone connected with working in a bank (they obviously think everyone's Fred Goodwin) and causing an unnecessary public overspend in police manpower. Most of these protesters don't have a fcuking scooby about the inner workings of the global economy let alone offer any serious or effective alternatives to "nasty" capitalism.

It's just vain sloganeering with little substance innit? A little admission on their behalf that it's a bit more complicated than "putting people/climate/dogs/cats/etc first" may entice a few more fans to their cause.

Peaceful protest isn't the issue, fair play to them but the rest are just knobs.

God save the queen... from the anarchists!!

I understand that USA & Russia chose (as always; as it was with Korea, Vietnam, Nikaragua & Cuba) a forein land to measure their power. This time, England.

The English lost their feel of reality... it's 21st century and they still have a monarchy. I understand, the tourist attraction & traditions, but she's hanging tere merely because of the English peerage, the social parasites who chose her as their shield. Now England is outraged - but yes of course in light of such a discontent.

I think one benefit of a prop monarchy is that while the Queen spends her time representing the image of England, the PM can go around actually conducting business.... where as our President has to wear both hats.

But then I could be full of shite, as this is only a passing thought....

Bollocks.

The police are doing their job of ensuring public safety and enforcing the word of law. They are also providing protection to the very workers and buildings some of these protesters have randomly threatened with violence. Breaking a few windows on the RBS building? Yeah, what a fucking statement. Bravo.

On the news last night there was clear footage of a protester clubbing a police officer (minus helmet) with a pole which clearly provoked confrontation. Today, there are press-wide reports today of two police medics being bottled trying to assist an injured man who later died.

It is the scum element in the protesters that are trying to repress lawful protest and not the government. Not that I'm any big fan of the (present) government as Broon's done an impressive job of trying to exonerate himself of any blame for the economy (he was Chancellor for a decade) and shift everything on to da nasty capitalist fat cats

Scary thing is it seems to have worked...

Yes it's the usual paranoid bollocks from the honourable member for Bangor.

I've been on proper, well-organised protest marches and seen how these idiot extremists operate. The myth of the heavy-handed copper is bollocks these days. It's the cider-drunk techno hippies who try to whip up unrest and paranoia amongst the lawful marchers.

What interest would a copper have in beating someone up for simply walking along the road in a group? None, that's how much. Do you think the natural sympathies of your average copper lies with rich bankers and lawyers?

Anyone sensible who was involved in these events would have got the fuck away from the few people causing trouble. I've seen that happen too. If you watched the footage of those idiots chucking stuff through the bank windows last night you'll have seen a handful of nutters surrounded by a big scrum of press photographers. Most of the actual protesters were probably over the other side of the road, tutting and trying to stay out of the way.

National fucking service, that's what this couuntry needs. I'd push the button myself.

My problem with most protesters is they're always in it to 'raise awareness' - which basically amounts to feeling good about causing a ruckus in the hope that someone else will actually do something about it.

So the entire attending masses are treated poorly, along with local residents, because of a teeny number of consumate fucktards. The question is begged........what percentage of the crowd were twats, and if that same percentage of an other group of people turned out to be "bad eggs" would the powers that be also crack down on that entire group. For instance, at least one MP is a terrorist, should they all be treated as terrorists?

Getting train staff to report anyone with a placard does not sound like going after the holligans.....they tend not to burden themselves with such things, it interferes with their cider consumption.

BTW....I think the whole protest was pretty pointless anyway, but (for now) people have a right to make tits of themselves in this way.

That said... Why did they choose to meet in London city centre? It is so easy to get there for many people.

There are plenty of empty and quiet areas, remote from everything, in those 20 countries. They could even get onboard a submarine and hide in the sea for a week. No demonstrators - a meeting without collateral damages...

And to stand aside Steve, it must be very annoying to live for the neighbourhood. Demonstrators, anti-riot policemen, special services police and all the lot... Better take a week off home...

Good point mate. They could have had their meeting up some mountain in Iceland if they wanted, no bother at all for THEM to get to, but not the sort of place the average crusty moron can easily access.

Be interesting to see if the local are more pissed off with the demonstrators or the police.

Here in NI there are numerous ocassions when it's best to lock the doors and dig in for the duration. But then, no cunt here has the MILDEST idea WTF peaceful protest is.....I believe most define it as "no live amunition used"

Here, it is the police.

Sarkozy does not stand the view of a demonstrator. Two weeks ago, he went in a small town. The population of this town went up by 50% during 48 hours. Two cops at every end of a street. People were invited to stay home or walk, letting their cars parked. Shopkeepers, the main electoral force of Sarkozy, complained that they had to close for a day as there were more policemen than inhabitants in the main commercial street. People were not happy.

And there was this joke in my childhood... A policeman says to another. "We, the police, are here to protect the good people, right? So why the hell the more we are, the more they are scared?"

Still.....shows the politicians are scared, which is a good thing. Pitchforks and torches must be like a race memory for French politicians too ;)

The "entire attending masses were treated poorly" comment is not only totally ignorant but completely inaccurate. I wasn't aware you were down the front at every angle of the protest witnessing all of this Cambo? Much of the news coverage across almost all areas of the political spectrum would also rebuke your opinion. There were lots of peaceful protesters who got on fine with the police and the atmosphere was reportedly more than harmonious aside from the incidents incited by the "fucktards".

Let's face it, the coppers could have genuinely done fuck all and you still would've been whinging your arse off at their mere presence near the protest...

London being a very important city, globally, and the issue being the most important one facing the civilised world at this point in time They(the politicans) appear to feel they need to make a prestigious show of it,and I can understand that.. Grandiose lip service in a way,in an attempt to appease the masses,us.

While our factories, industries and banking system... and all the knock on,keep falling into further decline..That's how it is just now,it'll come good again, just a question of when, and how much it will hurt, they need to halt it,no question.. The banks definitely need a kick up the arse and to be forced to start lending to firms again, then it will filter down in my opinion, speaking from the steel industry's point of view, which has been severely hit, like many others..Banks need to lend money to a firm that wants to build a 40 million pound skyscraper for example, but they won't anymore..The Firms still want to build those skyscrapers, and the profit is there for all,so let's get on with it...I see the car industry as a little more complicated, they need the banks too..The arse has fell out of everything, and you can see why,but still.. We're all feeling it.Dems da breaks.

More could be done, and hopefully with a bit of calculated guts and bollocks from the banks,it will be done, and soon.

Confidence is shot, understandably with the widespread toxic debt but the banks have the taxpayers lucre propping them up now,so they have to start playing the game..If not, just glass the cunts and start over.

Praps just wanting information about where the protesters were headed.

At least, as Martin suggested, these middle-classers got to feel like outlaws for the day. I read a lovely load of biased nonsense in the Guardian yesterday; a very romanticised portrait of the law-abiding lot happily sitting down, skinning up, pissing in the street and being 'kettled' by the nasty police. They'll be dinner-partying on it for ever. No harm done and everyone home in time for tea and crumpets.

What was that policeman doing pushing that guy over? I thought the police had done a great job in difficult circumstances but now I cant defend them.

The same guy was the one that tragically had a heart attack and died.

Seems more than a coincidence to me:\ohwell:

Totally justified, the guy was obviously one of those troublemakers you were talking about. Stop being paranoid, he had it coming.

I read that the IPCC originally assigned the City of London police - who worked alongside the Met on the day - to investigate but since the footage emerged they've been replaced with independent investigators. Probably a prudent move.

The footage is shocking and it goes without saying the treatment of the guy was completely unwarranted, no reasonable person could deny that. However any enquiry would be quick to point out that was a snapshot of a minute or two and we don't know precisely what went on beforehand. Regardless, it looks bad.

Doctor? wrote: Totally justified, the guy was obviously one of those troublemakers you were talking about. Stop being paranoid, he had it coming.

It would be as unreasonable as you think the police are to condemn every single police officer there on that day which is no doubt what the G20 "movement" will do instantly. These protesters routinely complain that the masses should not be penalised for the actions of a few troublemakers so let's see if the extend this belief to the police as a whole. There were idiots in the crowd on the day and I saw a good quote on a news article along the lines of "So the RBS building just did itself in, did it?"

Must be awful for the guy's family though, by all accounts his life was just a long line of bad luck (alcoholism, separated from wife, living in a hostel etc) ending with dying at a protest event he wasn't even attending.

Not saying that it was right, not saying that it wasn't a contributory factor but that shove wasn't going to cause a heart attack on its own was it?

The newspapers originally reported that the Police were bottled as they tried to help this guy as he was having a heart attack. It's looking like an attempted cover up that nearly worked.

He looks a bit bewildered before the attack, makes me wonder if he was pissed, or had just received a whipping from the Police? The person who shot the footage must have had a reason to start filming. Without seeing what went before, it's impossible to say whether it was even necessary to push the man at all - he was already moving in the direction that he was pushed.

It's a shit piece of film, anyway. None of the Policemen around the attacker try to stop it happening, or even seem bothered by it.

It certainly looks like he was pushed too hard, nobody should be pushed over as they walk away from a Policeman, and what may be tolerable for a fit young man may be excessive for an older person.

Hardly Rodney King though, is it?

Diamond 383 wrote: He looks a bit bewildered before the attack, makes me wonder if he was pissed, or had just received a whipping from the Police?

On Radio 5 yesterday there was an email from someone who bought his daily paper from the deceased, liked him but said he was regularly asked for spare change and the deceased made no secret that it all went on spirits. Circumstantial I know but to me he looks pissed and was moving very sluggishly at a speed far too slow for the police liking hence the action taken. Seen and received far worse at football matches, just unfortunate they pushed the bloke who seems to have been all set to croak.

True - on and off the field.

Rugby players would consider that soft.

I'm changing my mind. The copper shouldn't be done for manslaughter. He should be told not to push people so hard and have his stick taken off him.

I would have thought that this says a lot more about the culture of legal liability and litigiousness than anything else. I'm all for stamping out professional misconduct and police brutality but, like James says, anyone who has spent any time at the football over the years will have witnessed and received much worse than this (and taken it more often than not as par for the course). This doesn't excuse anything, of course, but this all looks a bit gay from where I'm sitting. I got 'assaulted' much harder a few hours ago by an old bloke not looking where he was going at the swimming pool.

It doesn't help that a certain left-liberal newspaper is jumping up and down like Lord fucking Snooty pointing out the supposed misbehaviour of the class 'bully'.

He died three or four minutes after the footage so I don't think the fall is entirely unrelated under these unique circumstances. Medically it is entirely possible for a person of his health (alcoholic, getting on a bit, probable health issues) that a violent fall could exacerbate an existing condition resulting in sudden death. As Col mentioned a younger healthier individual may have walked away unscathed but he was of a poorer constitution.

Is "I like" an Americanism I don't know because in this instance it sounds in pretty bad taste and far from excuses the conduct of the officer in question; the man's dead for fuck's sake.

He was probably a terrorist as well as a crusty window smasher, after all the police were only there for them.

Hasn't done wonders for anyone's chances of being able to carry a camera in public (the police are breaking laws right left and centre on this), I DO love my oh so free country, and am very glad we make big piles of little brown corpses to keep it so.

However I'm with Colin....not manslaughter, assault.

I guess its an Americanism... never really thought about it, just a way of sarcastically noting a bit of irony of an incident... not that I actually like it...
