Anyone been watching the news? It's fucking pathetic. Global economic meltdown; barbaric loss of life in wildly unpopular conflicts in the Middle East....and what do we get? A lame little scuffle that makes the Poll Tax riots look like the end of the fucking world. What a bunch of gayers.

One wonders if the protestors have any ideas of the £10 Million that is being spent to police this protest could be put to better use?

Not seen the thousands of great unwashed really but there only about 5 mins from my office. Loads of coppers about. Been a few scuffles and a broken window.

They're not spending any of it. The governemt is, in an attempt to repress lawful protest. Local residents being denied access to homes without photograhic ID etc etc etc.....I love my free country.
All some of the more militant attention seekers have succeeded in today is fucking up the London transport system for everyone, threatening to lynch seemingly anyone connected with working in a bank (they obviously think everyone's Fred Goodwin) and causing an unnecessary public overspend in police manpower. Most of these protesters don't have a fcuking scooby about the inner workings of the global economy let alone offer any serious or effective alternatives to "nasty" capitalism.
It's just vain sloganeering with little substance innit? A little admission on their behalf that it's a bit more complicated than "putting people/climate/dogs/cats/etc first" may entice a few more fans to their cause.
Peaceful protest isn't the issue, fair play to them but the rest are just knobs.

The English lost their feel of reality... it's 21st century and they still have a monarchy. I understand, the tourist attraction & traditions, but she's hanging tere merely because of the English peerage, the social parasites who chose her as their shield. Now England is outraged - but yes of course in light of such a discontent.

I think one benefit of a prop monarchy is that while the Queen spends her time representing the image of England, the PM can go around actually conducting business.... where as our President has to wear both hats.

The police are doing their job of ensuring public safety and enforcing the word of law. They are also providing protection to the very workers and buildings some of these protesters have randomly threatened with violence. Breaking a few windows on the RBS building? Yeah, what a fucking statement. Bravo.
On the news last night there was clear footage of a protester clubbing a police officer (minus helmet) with a pole which clearly provoked confrontation. Today, there are press-wide reports today of two police medics being bottled trying to assist an injured man who later died.
It is the scum element in the protesters that are trying to repress lawful protest and not the government. Not that I'm any big fan of the (present) government as Broon's done an impressive job of trying to exonerate himself of any blame for the economy (he was Chancellor for a decade) and shift everything on to da nasty capitalist fat cats

I've been on proper, well-organised protest marches and seen how these idiot extremists operate. The myth of the heavy-handed copper is bollocks these days. It's the cider-drunk techno hippies who try to whip up unrest and paranoia amongst the lawful marchers.
What interest would a copper have in beating someone up for simply walking along the road in a group? None, that's how much. Do you think the natural sympathies of your average copper lies with rich bankers and lawyers?
Anyone sensible who was involved in these events would have got the fuck away from the few people causing trouble. I've seen that happen too. If you watched the footage of those idiots chucking stuff through the bank windows last night you'll have seen a handful of nutters surrounded by a big scrum of press photographers. Most of the actual protesters were probably over the other side of the road, tutting and trying to stay out of the way.
National fucking service, that's what this couuntry needs. I'd push the button myself.

My problem with most protesters is they're always in it to 'raise awareness' - which basically amounts to feeling good about causing a ruckus in the hope that someone else will actually do something about it.

So the entire attending masses are treated poorly, along with local residents, because of a teeny number of consumate fucktards. The question is begged........what percentage of the crowd were twats, and if that same percentage of an other group of people turned out to be "bad eggs" would the powers that be also crack down on that entire group. For instance, at least one MP is a terrorist, should they all be treated as terrorists?
Getting train staff to report anyone with a placard does not sound like going after the holligans.....they tend not to burden themselves with such things, it interferes with their cider consumption.
BTW....I think the whole protest was pretty pointless anyway, but (for now) people have a right to make tits of themselves in this way.
That said... Why did they choose to meet in London city centre? It is so easy to get there for many people.
There are plenty of empty and quiet areas, remote from everything, in those 20 countries. They could even get onboard a submarine and hide in the sea for a week. No demonstrators - a meeting without collateral damages...
And to stand aside Steve, it must be very annoying to live for the neighbourhood. Demonstrators, anti-riot policemen, special services police and all the lot... Better take a week off home...
Good point mate. They could have had their meeting up some mountain in Iceland if they wanted, no bother at all for THEM to get to, but not the sort of place the average crusty moron can easily access.
Be interesting to see if the local are more pissed off with the demonstrators or the police.
Here in NI there are numerous ocassions when it's best to lock the doors and dig in for the duration. But then, no cunt here has the MILDEST idea WTF peaceful protest is.....I believe most define it as "no live amunition used"

People were invited to stay home or walk, letting their cars parked. Shopkeepers, the main electoral force of Sarkozy, complained that they had to close for a day as there were more policemen than inhabitants in the main commercial street. People were not happy.
And there was this joke in my childhood... A policeman says to another. "We, the police, are here to protect the good people, right? So why the hell the more we are, the more they are scared?"

I wasn't aware you were down the front at every angle of the protest witnessing all of this Cambo? Much of the news coverage across almost all areas of the political spectrum would also rebuke your opinion. There were lots of peaceful protesters who got on fine with the police and the atmosphere was reportedly more than harmonious aside from the incidents incited by the "fucktards".
Let's face it, the coppers could have genuinely done fuck all and you still would've been whinging your arse off at their mere presence near the protest...
