The pixies were shown live on sky arts this afternoon at newport folk festival doing acoustic,it was bloody great. saw them at t in park festival in 2004 and it was one of the best sets ive ever seen.anyway i know they did isle or wight last week and rumours of a tour are doing the rounds. anyone know if this might be true?. also cant find the original black and white smoke filled video of 'this monkeys' anywhere on youtube. anyone got it ? i can post this from manchester move festival though,which i think was night before t in the park 2004?.not sure. i put the same vid clip on a local website and i was staggered by the amount of people who seem to love pixies

One of my favourite bands. Saw them at Move festival which is posted up there and also at the Apollo in 2005. They're awesome.

They played a 'secret' gig in London last week, didn't they? Was it an Arts centre or summat? Did about 15 songs though.
Same night as Bleugh did an 'intimate' London gig too.
Course, that night, anyone who's anyone was at the 'intimate' ACR gig instead.

I'm a JCL with the Pixies, but now completely love them. Have them on in my car all the time.
I love Monkeys Gone To Heaven (probably the obvious choice). I had it on some wierd comp from about 1990 with a Kettle on the front. There was NO Vanishing Point, The Wedding Present, Morrisey and Happy Mondays (among many others).
I think MGTH is sublime. I love the vocal harmonies. But I have to say I dont care for any of their other material.

i had that comp too - was called simply "product" i believe.
& in a complete turnaround frrom your opinion mgth is one of my least favourite songs of theirs

Stereolab were never on 4AD. You thus lose all Patented 80s Indie Saddo Credibility. Pale Saints were good, though. And as for Lush....Miki and Emma....PHWOOOAARRR!!!!!!

On another point, did anyone else catch The Breeders earlier in the day at Reading in '93? I was really pissed and thought they were fantastic; I read an interview later where they said it was the worst gig they'd ever played.

Comparing Pixies with Throwing Muses is like comparing NO to Happy Mondays... being on the dole must be affecting yer mind... here's the perfect fitting song (the best Pixie song mind, not sure why no one has mentioned it yet. Blows Monkey Heaven out of the water)

was the first pixies gig i went to - which i always thought was their first in the uk, but checking now i saw them 26 april 1988 & they'd played the mean fiddler opening for the muses on 8th april, then went to france holland & germany before playing birmingham
they were supporting the muses on this tour & by the end of the tour pixies were the headliners - that can't have happened again since.
did their first peel session feb 2007 - before the release of come on pilgrim, good old peely!

It's an album called "Death to the Pixies" by Pixies.
Not by "The Pixies"
If New Order released an album called "Death to the New Order" you wouldn't automatically equate the title with the band themselves.

I ermmm ended up interviewing Lush at Southampton Uni in about 1992.. We was absolutely in love with them. Ended up taking them to a casino and throwing up in their hotel room sink and getting kicked out by their manager. Not much of an interview..

i saw them at hac in 1983 and the bass player drank all 6 of his beers in a 40 minute set,very impressive

I saw Pixies at a tiny club on the Doolittle tour with opening act... Happy Mondays (?!). The crowd hated the Mondays and booed the second the drum machine came on. Pixies was/were amazing; I remember Kim sweetly telling us to "be nice" after a stage diver got chucked up on stage and knocked over Black Francis' mic stand. Best concert ever? Maybe. Bone Machine at bone crushing volume is hard to top. My future wife saw Pixies open for U2 and swears they suck. A stadium is perhaps not the best venue to take in the Pixies experience.
I saw Ultra Vivid Scene open for Bob Mould on the Black Sheets of Rain tour. I'm a huge UVS fan. Kurt and guitarist and bassist all on their knees at the end of Mercy Seat squeezing out every last bit of feedback... awesome.
Lush were so good live. Some stage diver stole Miki's beer off the stage and probably built a shrine out of it.

I highly recommend the Pixies doc LoudQUIETLoud. Really sweet and sad. Caution, though: gratuitous shots of Charles' prodigious man boobs getting squeezed into a tour bus bunk.

On a more serious note, if cost is a major issue Amsterdam would be cheaper and better than London. I can't get to any of these, still haven't seen them since '92.
