'chemical chords' was released on 4ad. my Indie Saddo credentials extend far beyond the 80s.

Yeah, Throwing Muses were the ones being tipped for success - they had 'proper' pop tunes whereas Pixies were seen as being too avant-garde for the mainstream.

On another point, did anyone else catch The Breeders earlier in the day at Reading in '93? I was really pissed and thought they were fantastic; I read an interview later where they said it was the worst gig they'd ever played.

was the first pixies gig i went to - which i always thought was their first in the uk, but checking now i saw them 26 april 1988 & they'd played the mean fiddler opening for the muses on 8th april, then went to france holland & germany before playing birmingham

they were supporting the muses on this tour & by the end of the tour pixies were the headliners - that can't have happened again since.

did their first peel session feb 2007 - before the release of come on pilgrim, good old peely!

& re the whole "the pixies" thing

they released this as an official t shirt err & poster it would seem from the url

& this as a comp

which i believe are the only times it said the pixies on any of their releases & both times it's lower case.

As I suggested above: PHWOOAARRR!!! Their early gigs were hilarious - just a mass of sweaty, sexually frustrated male students. It was only when they (briefly) became pop stars and had a few hits that they started pulling in a large female audience. "Sweetness and Light" - that was quite a tune.

I'd forgotten the drummer topped himself until I saw that photo. He used to go out with Miki if I remember rightly. And the bassist was in Felt for a while, no? How depressing that I remember all this stuff but can remember absolutely nothing from the last 12 months of my life.....

I ermmm ended up interviewing Lush at Southampton Uni in about 1992.. We was absolutely in love with them. Ended up taking them to a casino and throwing up in their hotel room sink and getting kicked out by their manager. Not much of an interview..

Deluxe was the song for me, back in my slightly goff days.

Lush were ace. Emma's on my fb friends list, very pleasant and sensible.

I saw Pixies at a tiny club on the Doolittle tour with opening act... Happy Mondays (?!). The crowd hated the Mondays and booed the second the drum machine came on. Pixies was/were amazing; I remember Kim sweetly telling us to "be nice" after a stage diver got chucked up on stage and knocked over Black Francis' mic stand. Best concert ever? Maybe. Bone Machine at bone crushing volume is hard to top. My future wife saw Pixies open for U2 and swears they suck. A stadium is perhaps not the best venue to take in the Pixies experience.

I saw Ultra Vivid Scene open for Bob Mould on the Black Sheets of Rain tour. I'm a huge UVS fan. Kurt and guitarist and bassist all on their knees at the end of Mercy Seat squeezing out every last bit of feedback... awesome.

Lush were so good live. Some stage diver stole Miki's beer off the stage and probably built a shrine out of it.

I highly recommend the Pixies doc LoudQUIETLoud. Really sweet and sad. Caution, though: gratuitous shots of Charles' prodigious man boobs getting squeezed into a tour bus bunk.

Very nice. Am I alone in thinking that touring a single album (even with its 'associated fucking b-sides') is a vile, empty concept which stinks - on good day - of geeky knob cheese?

the b sides will be great - does that include theme from narc - don't think i've seen them play that one before (tho not 100%)

On a more serious note, if cost is a major issue Amsterdam would be cheaper and better than London. I can't get to any of these, still haven't seen them since '92.
