Caught a programme on C4 yesterday called "UR50 VAIN" about personalised number plates, and in particular the sort of people that have them.

It centred on several insecure, self-obsessed, attention seeking males (the sort of people that have personalised plates, allegedly) called Nigel and the implications of having the ultimate number for their car. The owner of N1 GEL paid £80,000 for it, and has it on a yellow Lamborghini that he parks in a Thunderbird style pop-up garage. He looked incredibly pleased with himself. Another Nigel was so desperate that he had to settle for N2 GEL, for which he paid £600 and put on a 10 yr old Merc. He tried to make out that it was all a joke, but he was absolutely gutted when he met Nigel no 1. So much so that the following day he put N2 GEL up for sale.

Anyway, anyone here got one that they'll admit to?!

Also, I've just ordered a new car, so any suggestions? Sadly it looks like KN08 END isn't available.

Not QUITE the same thing, but there's a citroen berlingo knocking around this here town, where the owner has modified (neatly and professionally) the Citroen badge to read "Shitroen".

We used to have a number plate shop here, they started with stuff that was vaguely word-like, but ended up lookin £500 for stuff like "YOI 3775" or "FXI 1324", ie totally ordinary and random NI plates.

When I bought my (nearly) new car in April, it came with a 5 digit Personal Reg. The Reg itself had my initials and birthdate on it. The Salesmen told me the Reg wasn't for sale, the previous owner wanted to keep it. I didn't want it anyway. I thought it cheapened the car somehow. I much prefer my car with a normal plate on.

The car is pretty distinctive anyway and I think having a personal reg as well makes it more identifiable and could make it a bigger target to vandals.

Must admit though, there is one private reg I loved. Didn't somebody post a pic on here of their car with a 'FAC' reg?

Would never put on specialized plates on a daily driver car, that's just vain. I do, however, want to put one on my 68 Pontiac. I named the car "Jaws" as it evolves around a shark theme... so wanted the plate to say "Jaws" and get a frame that says "du-na du-na du-nana"... but alas, I have to wait til funds even out a bit.

I know 2 lads who have them. One of whom is'K33VSY'Haha..We rip the arse end out of him..... Tossy as fuck.

I'd like to make allowances for 'HOOKY' because he twangs a decent bass, but personalized number plates are tossy as fuck, they just are..

Just as sure as god made little apples, personalized number plates are wanky as a bastard, without a shadow of a doubt.

Don't get me wrong,I love Top Gear,beaut telly...:thumb:

3 1/2 or 5 1/4 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaactually :D

Obersturmbahnfuhrer moseley's days are numbered......either his or F1's.

Someone must have the plate "HAL 9000", and you gotta wonder what "NCC 1701" would sell for. But different in Jesusland is it not? Some states let you have whatever you choose, as opposed to us backward types having to find "standard" plates that sort of look a little bit like words.

There is a bloke drives around Portsmouth in a Porsche Boxter with '80XTA' on the plate. Given the fact that it is convertible, he must actually be able to hear most of the peolple shouting WANKER at him...

My mate took his Mother-in-Law to the Baxters Soup factory. They have a large visitors' centre, very popular apparently. As they walked back towards the car, the old dear pointed at a car and said "oh look, that must be one of the owners' cars". As he drove past my mate spotted what was written on the back - "Boxster S".
