Too many people have got as far as Gretna Green and retained the image that all Scots have big ginger beards, prance about in kilts and sing songs about Whisky making ye frisky.

It's no true.

Honest

PETER COATES'S BELATED REDEMPTION wrote: Steve - you missed the point of Hibster's post, contained as it was in his final sentence (clue: the word "cider"). As ever, Dave tries to stealthily convince the world that the West Country has contributed more to Western civilization than the Romans whilst casually omitting the reality that they're just a bunch of inbred, tractor-driving yokels ridden with debilitating mental health problems caused by centuries of ingesting fermented apples.

i believe you are confusing bristol with norfolk there, apart from the cider bit & that just causes blindness. not surprising given the problems stoke on trent has of deciding which towns make it up i guess...

I've never seen Braveheart. As I mentioned on here before I don't really watch a lot of films. When I was at customs in NYC once the big fat prick of a customs official who's job it is to make you feel very ill at ease told me, on hearing my accent, that it was his favourite film of all time. I told him I'd never seen it. He looked at me like I'd just shat in his mother's handbag.

While we're (sort of) talking films I saw another great film coming back from Las Vegas last week. It was about the fella who invented the windscreen wipers and who got his idea stolen by Ford. Didn't catch the name of it but it was great.

It's like the national glue.

Well, it aint. It was very good indeed. Having googled it I am now glad to report that it is in fact called 'Flash Of Genius'. Here's the trailer.

Technically speaking Al, had I been spotted I could have played for Scotland, Ireland or Engerland. I played County level and one of our PE teachers (who was on the board of selectors for England schoolboys) asked if I'd play for England schoolboys, to which I just laughed and thought nothing of it, I was too young (and stupid) to realise I couldnae qualify for Scotland schoolboys, so in hindsight, I would have played for Engerland at that level

You don't need to.

You lot have taken bigotry to a new level. One half of your white people hate the other half of your white people.

:\ohwell:

The political and social geography has changed radically in the last decade or so. Saying the above is now about as relevant as saying that one half of Manchester hates the other half or that Arsenal hate Spurs. In 2009 that's all it means. Fortunately, nothing more sinister or life-threatening than that.

So, no trouble wearing my sash down the Celtic end then? Or me popey flag in the rangers stand?

I'm upset, retarded bigotry was NI's only successful export since the titanic legend (as opposed to the titanic herself).

Give it a rest, Steve: Scotland extends waaaaaay beyond Glasgow, and Glasgow extends waaaaaay beyond Ibrox and Celtic Park. There are kids at Stoke (yes, Stoke-on-Trent) who sing "No Surrender to the IRA"....

...and I mean kids: the stupid little fuckers were barely out of nappies when the peace process was being finalized. In other words, I wouldn't give too much credence to what gets chanted at football grounds.

As my cousin Steve pointed out to me on a drunken night out (for which he earned quote of the night)

You don't have to be a catholic to hate the huns.

He's right, I was born one and even I hate em ;)

Martin, all very true.....BUT, I cannot recall ever meeting a scotsman who had no opinion on the subject (albeit NI may well make for a somewhat slewed sample).

You'd probably encounter the same reaction as somebody wearing a Liverpool top in the Everton end or a Real top in amongst a stand full of Barca fans. And your point is what exactly?

Really? How does that work with season books etc? Every day's a school day. But you get my point I'm sure.

Anyway. It's not only about Celtic and Rangers in Glasgow. There are other teams. The famous Glasgow Diamonds for example. See below (from 1985)
