Yes, it was time someone do it. Explain why you're using that nasty nickname!

Myself, Spotnick, back in 1990, when I discovered what was a modem, I was connecting to the school BBS (Bulletin Board System running on the WWIV bulletin board system), and when I was asked for an alias, I had a good one thinking about it.

The first draft was aweful, and I found Spotnick the next day, which is a name I found by using my own nickname (Nick, which comes from my first name Nicolas), and it was my way of spelling the russian satellite Sputnik back them, until I realized, I prefered the sound of it, so I stuck with it.

It's also quite near a New Order song, which I didn't know back then, so it's not too bad for a New Order fan.

But through the years, the internet came, and by having a nickname I created myself, I was able to surf easily, but somehow, there is people in the world with the same ideas that I have I guess, because I've seen plenty of Spotnick around. I also discovered last year that there was a Swedish group called The Spotnicks..!!

In 1998, I registered spotnick.com, the site is still from my 1998 way of coding HTML, so it sucks, and it's quite bad, I mostly use the email and I have sub-directories for personal stuff.. NewOrderOnline was hosted there (www.spotnick.com/temptation) back then, now, spotnick.com points to NewOrderOnline.com, so it gives you the idea ;)

So, that's the little story behind it.

I've explained this before - but I'll do it one last time;)

Shug is a Scottish nickname fer anyone called Hugh, and in Scotland, Hugh is one of the most common names.....it can be quite annoying when yer at a Celtic game, and someone shouts out Shug....you can't help but look around, even though there's probably another couple of thousand people being referred to as Shug :lol: Down in England there are hardly any Shug's - Corby probably has a few - but I wouldn't thought there'd be that many anywhere else doon here;) The ZV comes from my brother John....a lot of people called me Shug, Shuggy, Shugs or Shugsy - so fer the Shugsy name you just add the Z....hence ShugZ - the V part of the name came from Ruudi Voeller, when I was younger I was top goalscorer for every team I played for from the ages 8-16, and I think it was during the 1990 World Cup, when a few of us used to play footy at our local field - John called me Voeller.....as he scored a few and also had more than a tint of red in his hair :lol: So the nickname ShugZ Voeller was born....then edited a while later again by John, when I had given him a New Order compilation tape....on it he put...A ShugZV edit. That's the full story of this wee nickname of mine....and that'll be the last time it's explained....it takes far too long......espescially when yer a lazy bastard like moi;)

I've been using WenOrder since 95. when I signed up for aol and needed a screen name. Wen is what I use to tell people how to phonetically pronouce my last name Nguyen. Order, obviously is my way to tie in my favorite band. It was a couple years later I realized Wen is New backwards.

well...let's see...this one can be kind of interesting...I guess...

I was into Russian history in high school, and by the time I got to my last two years of college, I was majoring in history, and had to pick a specialty...and chose Russian and Soviet history...this Rasputin character was rather fascinating, and he has the additional plus of being on the cover of an Electronic album...so, the rest is, as they say, history...

Geaux Hagen is simple...my Irish rooted surname is Geoghagan and being from Louisiana where the cajun's spell long O sounds with eaux as the suffix, i simple changed it from the normal spelling to the Cajun-ized Geaux Hagen. easier to pronounce and hopefully will keep me off of Google searches. It sucks to be contacted by rotten apples from the past because they found your info on Neworderonline through a simple internet search.

Mine is simply a contraction of my full names HUgh Adrian RoBERT MICKLE. Simple really. Besides, all my family and schoolmates always called me Hubert anyway, so it stuck. Funnily, even my girl Charley's name is just a nickname she got from school - her surname is Charleston and her proper first names are Amanda Kathryn - but I've always affectionately referred to her as simply "Charley".:)

Then I would look stupid trying to pronounce it in the US if I was there, we have plenty of vietnamese people in Montréal, 99% of them are called N'guyen or Nguyen, depends of the way they want to spell it. Common people pronounce the G, but other who knew any know it's a quiet G, so it's pronounced New-Yen over here..

Or maybe I didn't understand the correct way to say it ;)

well, i first used my nick name when i signed up for one of those sonicnet personal radio stations (really slow fookers too) and i named my station snucker. i was thinking of a brand of jam called smucker ( :shrug: dunno why) and decided to drop the m and put in an n. i thought it sounded pretty cool, sounded like a shoe brand. when i came here, i used snucker again, cuz i couldn't be bothered to think up of another unique name.

so it stuck, and now i usually use it on most NO related forums, unless i decided to go one of those discserver boards, i'd either use margaret or julie or julie doiron (julie doiron being a halifax singer-songwriter i used to like). i like to be annoyminous to such unestablished boards where nobody knows anybody. they can be real primitive, no smilies at all :nonono:

It depends on the person, but it is common in the states to have it pronouced wen or win, and I think it is the closest americanized way to pronouce it, but still not exact.

My nickname stems from the fact that I love cookies, and Cookie Monster was one of my favourite characters on Sesame Street as a kid.... but i changed the Cookie part to Hooky so it has some relevance to N O

My mum's always called me flo/floss/flossie. Then my school mates (who'd never met my mum) started calling me auntie flo when they were wankered/in need of psychological support. have no idea why, but the name stuck anyway.

My nickname came from coming across the early title for Temptation. I liked it so much I started using it and it just stuck.

Realized that green could signify a few things (money, environment, youth, jealousy) that give it an enigmatic feel. Also, the fact that EGG is one of my fave songs doesn't hurt either.

No, I'm not a huge Scritti Politti fan either, but their rise from the Rough Trade indie days to having some chart hits in the US was nice to see.

So my mate SHACK who knows me VERY well says i have to have a nickname for his RADIO SHACK...me being a fan and hence a SHACKETTE.So he says to me ..MICK you ARE always off your head and in a different UNIVERSE,Helps that i am a BOWIE fan.Therefore ROCKET MICK was born and MAD MICK bites the dust.But i wish i had a proper name like TREVOR,BILLY or RIO!:D ROCKET MICK :cool2: :redhat:

Well, mine is a bit convoluted but... :shrug:

My real name is Humberto but all my friends call me Huber or Hubert often pronouncing it the English (RP)way, it started as a piss take since I have always been a bit of an anglophile but somehow stuck with me.

When I first started posting here I decided to use it but then a certain bloke whose real name is Hugh decided to call himself Hubert (although he wouldn't name his offspring after me, not much consistency there is it?). Since his postings are so much relevant than mine I found myself perplexed by reading "Hubert said that" or "well said Hubert". For a time I posted as "Huber (Not affiliated with the Hubert Mickley Inc.)" but it was too long.

Not wanting to resort to litigation and since Hubert Mickley seems a nice bloke, is slightly older than myself and from his profile looks taller and stronger I decided to graciously concede defeat and add the Budvar bit of the name (but if you have ever tasted both Budvar and Budweiser you know which one is the real stuff :evil4: )
