The thing I've been listening to the most lately is Arcade Fire's Funeral.
I have yet to explore AF but what i heard is pretty good. I heard David Byne performs with them when they cover 'this must be the place' by talking heads at shows. Thats enough to command my respect not to mention Patrick liking them. With the exception of that rule being the offspring.

I went through a Talking Heads phase just before discovering NO. I saw Stop Making Sense about 12 times in theaters. The movie True Stories turned me against them, or at least against Byrne.
Interpol's first album was good, but the second one was disappointing.

as did i, around 1985-1986. when little creatures came out i played that cassette until it could play no more. ditto with stop making sense.
Stop Making Sense is the best live rock'roll movie i ever saw. It turned me on to the Talking heads.

To tell you the truth ive havent been listening to anything new these days with the exception of le tigre, and teo leo. Ive been kinda diggin through my old record collection. Some of my favs are Velvet Underground, Suicide, the clash, and kraftwerk.

In a thread here a few months ago I posed the question, what is your all-time favorite music item ever by anybody? My answer to that question was I'm Set Free by VU.
I've never heard of Suicide. What are they?
Suicide is a band from nyc and its heydey was in the late 70's punk scene. They are two person band and propably were the precursor to what some call electro-punk now. They actually opened for Joy Divison. Also, in some article i read (cant remember)Barney claims them as influence in the direction that NO went in.
They have been gaining popularity lately as a book about them has been release. It features people like Michael Stipe, Bono, and Deborah Harry.

Just to add to this retrospective festival, I've unearthed one of my alltime favourite threads:
Film 2003 with Huntsman and Guests
It's a long read but there's some quality material in the middle acts, especially.
It's also a little tough to read these threads now because it seems that the NOOL formatting has changed and the quotes and smilies are all merged into the posts.

This is imho one of those few perfect albums. A lot their stuff after is kind of sketchy but still good. Also, they could be considered the fathers of the industrial genre.

I assume 96 Tears is a cover rather than the original, which, as I recall, was credited to Question Mark and the Mysterians.

The Amazon review was pretty favorable; that made it easier. Plus I just yesterday signed up for a year's worth of shipping so I thought I might as well get my money's worth.
The track list on Amazon included "96 Tears." It may have been that that really did the trick for me.
