Why am I deluded? And why are you so obsessed with coming on here and being rude to me? I've not posted on here very much for months. First thread I start, you pounce on it and start being a cunt, calling me obsessed and deluded. It's a very strange way to carry on. A bit worrying, really.

To clear up- Johnny's brother "discovered" Oasis when they were little more than a pub band and gave Johnny a tape with the demos of definitely maybe. Johnny saw something in them and made a few introductions, played a bit with them and the rest as they say is history. That said they are not my cup of tea at all - important in the 90s- mostly gash after.

I think it's reasonable to say some pretty tepid dance music was ruling the charts pre-Britpop, not to say that there wasn't lots of good dance music as well but there was a shift towards guitar bands after '94 wasn't there?

Oooft. Yer 'Search For The Hero' era was long after they'd had any relevance. Utter utter shite, agreed. Can't beat the Sasha remix of How Can I Love You More tho....

Johnny Marr's finest guest appearance was on 'Still Feel The Rain' by Stex, a British nu-soul outfit who released a couple of singles in the late '80s then dissapeared. I hunted high and low for this tune for literally years before finding it on eil.com. Paid a pretty penny for it too.

He's even in the video (horribly out of sync though it is) for all the non-believers out there.

I must admit how the revionist argument about how Johnny Marrs brother 'discovered' Oasis is news to me. There was me thinking it was Alan McGee (hence them signing to Creation) but, hey, you live and learn I guess.

The whole Rule Britannia debacle was a bit naff, especially Blair shaking hands with Noel. But even today every provincial pub has those same old hits on their jukebox.

On the whole most groups from Manchester were fookin shiiiite, and inferior to those of the Mersey.

"A fresh coincidence exhibits itself at the band's last gig of the year at their home from home, the Boardwalk, on November 22. They are third on the bill, behinf The Cherries and Molly Half Head. Over-running wildly, the band have a stand-off with The Cherries which ends in the plug being pulled on them. Liam, in a rage, spends the whole night searching for the culprits, seeking revenge.

"Oasis' luck begins to change. Meeting with an old friend from the Inspirals days at the Hacienda, a discussion starts about the nerits of The The's Dusk LP, and how pleased the friend's brother was with his work on it. Straight away, Noel realises he's talking about Johnny Marr [ex-Smiths]. Overwhelmed, he insists the friend pass on an Oasis tape to brother John. The next day, Noel receives a spontaneous call from Marr himself,congratulating him on the songs, and the pair start talking about vintage guitars. Here you go Liam. Johnny's brother Ian championed them originally and played the tapes to lots of people in Manchester. The rest as they say is history... Still don't like Oasis though!

Its about what type of film it is, whilst DiCaprio is a reasonable actor, and he deserves credit for challending himself in films such as B;lood Diamond, most of DiCaprio's films (which I've seen, cant claim to have seen them all) revolve around blatant sensationalism and the "ooh, look. We've got Dicaprio in our film."

Oasis remind me of my heyday in the mid-'90s, when I was in my early 20s. I must admit I was into the whole Blur/Oasis thing (I leaned towards Blur). However, I did love Oasis. 'Specially their first two albums. I kind of lost track of them after that. They've totally disappeared over here and I've no idea if they're even still together.

Anyone else go to their 1996 show at Knebworth?

Its a bit easy having a go at Oasis now, their time is long past and the power of hind sight is a great thing, history has shown them not to be the great talent they told us they were. But they did indeed give the British music world a much needed kick up the arse, after what seemed like years of insipid dance cack in the charts suddenly there were people who's names you knew, and they had stories and some of the songs werent too bad, they looked pretty good, had a great front man, yup he is a knob and a bully. But what do you want from a star? Shaun Ryder was a yob and a bully and a thief and a junkie, and everyone loved/loves him, these things go in cycles, the mondays suffered the backlash, it was great for a while hearing about them and their antics, then sufddenly it wasnt the done thing to be any more. I think without Liam they would have been nothing, of course if he toned it down a bit they would have been bigger, but so what. I didnt have to live with him thankfully. Noel on the other hand although he did the important bit of writting the songs, i found his taste in music so achingly predictable, always struck me as a guy who owned about three records, always remember him saying he didnt want to be some little band like the Velver Underground!!!!!!!he fuckin wishes. Now he is reduced to turning up on chat shows giving witty one liners. The dream is over, they werent that great, but they werent that terrible either, they were just an enjoyable flash in the pan. These days with Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty on the front page every second day, its kinda hard to remember how odd it was when a band would make the front page of the sun for something as daft as them getting a haircut. It felt like something was happening, maybe just maybe these guys were going to the next B*****s, well they certainly were not, but for a couple of years they got people talking and interested in music, well at least people who werent into music before. Another bad thing they did was open the flood gates for Ocean Colour Scene etc to do our nuts in, in fact the charts have been utterly shite since they appeared now that i think about it, just in a different way. Thet upset the apple cart and we all know what Stephen Morris says about what happens after that. Its 4.05 am, im tired. Good night.

PS- I like Oasis but I don't like the Charlatans much.

I like both, but on different levels. Oasis are more important to me than The Charlatans, but The Charlatans are definitely more likeable.

Both their debuts are my favourite albums, although I think I like Definitely Maybe more than Some Friendly.

maybe worth noting that dicaprio was named in the top 3 most powerful people in hollywood (cameron was first) recently liam, in which case jem was right to link it that way rather than by using mr nolan's name
