Having read most of the Sunday papers today, the english press hardly mentioned it.......and those who did, all thought Liverpool will win.
If yer brave enough, you can have a go at predicting the score and the scorers
I'll kick it off with Celtic 3-1 Hartson (2)& Sutton, and Owen to score an away goal fer the scousers.
Sorry Shugz, but as a hardcore Liverpool fan I'm afraid you're going down.

I've got a feeling we might sneek the away win. I can't see our centre halves giving Hartson as much room as he had for his goal on Saturday even with Henchoz absent. So I don't see there being many goals in it but I think the Owen might get one.

Can't understand how Mark Lawrenson having just sat and watched us take Rangers apart still went for a Liverpool win at Parkhead. Juventus, Valencia, Porto, Celta Vigo, Stuttgart, Basel and some mob from the north of England have all visited Parkhead in the last 18 months and been beaten. Don't see why Liverpool should fare any better.
NB Celtic haven't been beaten at home in Europe sine Ajax (0-1) in August 01. Even then we were carrying a 3-1 lead from the first leg in Amsterdam so it was pretty irellevant.

I saw the Blackburn game and they absoluteely took you apart. I think the only reason it wasn't about 4-0 was they were shocked at how easy it was and started to play like it was an exhibition match and over-elaborated infront of goal, trying to score wonder goals. I think as a counter attacking side we're well equipped to win at difficult places i.e Rome. We've also won away 3 times in Europe so far this season including being I think the only ever team to beat Spartak Moscow away from home in Europe.
Aye but Hanky, we were also gash against Basle and managed to beat them 3-1 as well, even when we play shite we still manage to record wins in Europe. I think after Saturday's game, we'll go into this with plenty of confidence, the only thing I'm slightly worried about is Owen coming back to form.....but having said that, our back 3 has been immense this year, and if Owen goes anywhere near Balde, I fear he might not make it out alive
Liverpools best option will have to be balls over the top for the wee man to run onto, pace is the best option for ye's......mind you, Rangers thought that on Saturday
I reckon Celtic will win 3-1. Hartson to bag a double and Petrov to net one, with Owen replying for L'pool.

The Blackburn game (home leg) : "took you apart", "exhibition match". Your havin a laugh intcha?!!!!! As far as I recall we won the game! Then we went down there and taught them a proper footballing lesson. A 3-0 aggregate win is pretty good going for a team who were taken apart.
I know who I want to win but I have a feeling it's all coming right for Liverpool just at the wrong time!

It's getting close
Kick Off in an hour and a half. According to various sections of the press, ole Henke himself could well be back, fuckin hope so... "Like a Henrik Larsson on the Horizon, he could be fit and Celtic will be flying, he'll nutmeg all day, drive the scousers insane then he'll remove all of their pain" :D I still stick by my original prediction, but feel it could be a tight game. I think Liverpool will go with Baros up front with Owen, but I still think Heskey will play on the left, haven't heard wether he's fit yet, but I think he will play.
Should be an interesting battle in the middle with Petrov and Gerrard, Hamman and Lambert and Murphy and Lennon. But I think Celtic have the experience to settle things down at home. The crowd will be mental, just wish I could have got a ticket!

Not many clear-cut chances in the 2nd half, though Larsson spurned a good chance when through on Dudek. Should be a pulsating 2nd leg next week, and I still think Celtic have a great chance of going through. What about that cretin Diouf spitting at the Celtic fans? Hopefully he will be punished accordingly.

Pretty dull game by all accounts. The second half looked like two teams playing out time. Reckon thoughts were drifting to the return leg at a very early stage.
Jamie Smith was awful, we really missed Agathe. Sutton and Larsson were firing on about 50% which didn't help matters either. All in all though I saw absolutely nothing from the scousers that would give me any concern about the second leg (2-1 Celtic AET).
As for Diouf..... an embarrasment to his club.
Agreed, a very lacklustre performance from the Bhoys after Emily had equalised. Saying that, we could have been 3-0 up after 5 minutes!
Thompson coming off was a major blow, and I agree that Larsson and Sutton were struggling in the second half. They should have brought Lambert on for Larsson earlier to give Stan the chance to get into the Liverpool box. I would also like to have seen wee Maloney get 15 minutes. We cannae all be managers I suppose
Ach well, I still believe we will go through, cos we will definitely score at Anfield
The Liverpool fans here at work havnae had too much to say, cos they know we were keich and they still never threatened us......it's all to play for, and I hope the second leg is more entertaining than the first.

I reckon that no doubt you’ll baton the hatches and attempt eek out a 0-0 draw or catch em on the break and stumble it over the line which will get you thru but win over no new fans ;)

Maybe all the English sceptics will finally give some credit to the much maligned Scottish game. Excellent performance from the whole team, with a special mention to Alan Thompson who has played consistently well since moving north, yet has constantly been overlooked by England. Also, big bad John Hartson what a goal. Sunday's penalty miss is but a distant memory, and at the end of the day beating Rangers in the league and progressing in Europe were by far more important than winning a mickey mouse cup. BTW any of you scousers already bought tickets for the final and want rid, I'll take two off your hands as the public sale is already sold out.

Congratulations and good luck. Must whinge about the referee. I thought we started well, on top for the first 20 minutes and playing quite good stuff. Only came under pressure from a speight of dubiously awarded free kicks around our box and Hartson and Larson's pushing and shoving made them difficult to deal with. This often lead to corners being conceded and more pressure. Only 2 of about 6 were for actual fowls, I thought. This resulted in giving you a lot of impetus and a big foot-hold in the game. Then finally a goal from the worst decision of the game, absolutely shocking.
I never said I was a good loser.:D
That said there were some poor performers out there for us. Hamann must surely only have his need for surgery as an excuse. Murphy will have to think of his own. I actually thought the usually inept Smicer looked up for it and bringing him off so early broke down our outlet, down the left. Riise was offering little going forward down there and Carragher seldom does down the right. Gerrard was probably our best performer on the night but couldn't supply a killer ball or finish when he had some of our best chances. Traore, I wouldn't judge on this outing against possibly the whiliest players (and possibly the widest,in Hartson)he's come across at a very tender age for a center half.

Quality performance. Forgive me for not getting too excited though. I never had any doubt that we'd dispose of the Scousers. Remember that two legs ago we beat Celta Vigo who were a real CLASS ACT. Having seen how we took care of them I was never under any doubt that Liverpool who, if we're being honest, are poles apart from Vigo would cause us any problems.
Can we get an agreement now from the many snipers out there that Celtic (and the huns) would do far more than hold there own in the Premiership? In fact if Liverpool and Blackburn are representative of the quality we'd be facing I don't know why we're bothering!
Mucho respecto to the Celts - I for one never doubted you, perhaps now they can go on and win it.
I can only hope this is the beginning of the end for Liverpool a la Leeds.

one off games mean nothing in the long run watford are in the semi of the fa cup but would be bottom of the premiership.
youve done well to get this far, good luck for the rest of the season, but in the prem you would be playing tricky opponenets EVERY week, not just four times a season, then we will see how strong your squad is.

Was waiting for this. Ho hum. Predictable if nothing else! We can only be judged by the games against Premiership teams which we've played. So far we've beaten two this season over two legs. As well as all trhe closes season friendlies which we won (Man U, leeds etc).
"Tricky opponents every week"? Aye right! The premiership is almost as polarised as the SPL in terms of the tiny amount of teams who could win it(3). I reckon we'd do not bad in those "tricky" games against Bolton, West Brom, Man City et al.
The fact remains that we've come down this season, played two of your sides and taken care of them without much effort.
The premiership is nowhere near as polarised as the SPL. How many teams outside Rangers and Celtic have won 4 trophies in the last 3 seasons? How many finished in the top 2 last season? Newcastle and Liverpool have both qualified for the second stage of the Champions league in consecutive years. I believe this is the first time Celtic have survived in Europe longer than Xmas since 1980.

As for us in the Premiership, we've had all this before. We constantly come down here for games, testimonials, or not, and constantly hold our own (and several times with reservs squads)
Let's put things into a bit of perspective....
Blackburn were 3rd in the Premiership when we played the first leg.
Celta Vigo were 3rd in the Spanish Primera
Stuttgart were 2nd in the Bundesliga......
and Liverpool were??

Get fed up with all these so called commentators down here, when the draw was made, every single one of these so called "Experts" predicted Liverpool would be too strong for Celtic, where were they all hiding in yesterday's paper.....It's the old addage, if a SCOTTISH team is doing well, all of a sudden we're British

Best thing I found was in the Daily Star, Dominik Diamond (self confessed Tim) was in a bar in Liverpool, when the second goal went in, and reported that the Celtic fans chanted to the scousers (to the tune of "Your not singin anymore" ) "Where's yer sense of humour gone?"

no hank - they cant be judged on that game against lower league opposition, only on games against premiership opposition, you must know this!
