What is everyones next favorite band besides NEW ORDER?

I just wanted to know what everyone listens to besides NEW ORDER.

I personally listen to U2, DM, JD,The Cars,Eco and the bunnymen, Ocean Blue, Oingo Boingo and every RETRO 80's song, Trance of any kind.

Depeche Mode are my favourite band, followed closely by the Order and then Joy Division, The Smiths, Interpol and Idlewild. Don't listen to that much variation in music but if you want to suggest some then be my guest.

i'm very eclectic in my musical tastes which span from s club 7 to disturbed, my personal favourites being placebo, the manic street preachers and radiohead. however, i have absolutely no liking for perpetrators of r n b or uk garage, or, for that matter, 'artists' such as the white stripes and avril lavigne. eurgh.

after NO/JD, i would say blur and the chemical brothers would be my next two favourites.

The Triffids, The Fall, The Mekons, Cabaret Voltaire, Bunnymen, Neko Case, ON-U Sound label, Einsturzende Neubauten, The Church, R.E.M., Massive Attack, Sterolab, Johnny Cash, Velvets, Meat Puppets, Mission Of Burma, Sonic Youth, Tom Waits, Go-Betweens, etc.

Underworld and NO are tied at 1st.

Smashing Pumpkins is my favorite band, aside from the fact I've liked them the longest. Billy Corgan writes good lyrics and, in the first 2 albums, did some excellent guitar solos, and Jimmy Chamberlin is probably the best drummer from the '90s, in my opinion. After, New Order is tied with the Cure. Then, I like PSB and early Metallica, particularly Masters of Puppets. At various points, I've liked Nirvana and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but both are just too bland and only have a few decent, distinguishable songs.

The Wiggles - most hardcore band in the world. Respect.

Depeche Mode. Probably my favourite band actually, but that depends on the mood really. A really close call between DM & NO.

As for music taste, I think 'varied' is the best description. Anything in my collection from Metallica to Hans Zimmer, Jean-Michel Jarre to Stone Roses, U96 to Deep Forest. Amongst others!

The Clash, Mode, Ben Harper, Morcheeba, Asian Dub Foundation etc...

Funny you should ask that. To aging punks of my generation, garage music was underground independent guitar music that had no exposure, no decent gear, no hope but was great stuff. These days, the name "garage" in the UK has become associated with the post-MTV absolute bollocks soft shite black wailing music that most other countries have seen off. The cheeky fuckers also call it R&B over here ! My arse it's R&B.

US "garage" music is ok. UK "garage" music is shite.

s club are really happy and cheesy and fun. and of course, there ain't no party like an s club party, to be fair. the white stripes are just annoying, and shite really. A ticket stub for a concert they played at Leicester Uni fell out of the CD booklet (must have been from 1988 or 89). I have a very vague memory of sitting cross legged on the floor below the speaker stacks. The sound of "Revolution" was still ringing in my ears about a week later !

Used to be well into Spiritualized as well but I think Jason is begining to lose it a bit. Not that keen on the track on the War Child charity record to be honest. I am ,however, a big fan of the "Pure Phase" LP particularly the last track "Feel like goin home" - blows me away every time.

Have you heard either of the Echoboy LP's - I love them - they have a similar vibe to the Spacemen/Spiritualized.

Crowded House: My former favourite band, I Neil Finn's songwriting, especially Don't Dream It's Over.

Eurythmics: Another part of new-wave synth pop, I ended up liking their comeback adult-contemporary oriented Peace more than their other albums.

Pet Shop Boys: Went insane with all the comparisons with New Order and bought their best of to find out what it was all about. I bought their 6th album Bilingual yesterday and yeah let's just say I'll be investing quite heavily in their back catalogue from now on....

Electronic: Lovely pop hooks dotted over three albums, they have a light refreshedness about them which is a relief from New Order's bassy moodiness.

I never bought into their hype until their latest album, Elephant. It really is a wonderful reinterpretation of the blues, and Jack White is blossoming into quite the skilled songsmith.

I love the Cabs as well, so great choice there!

Strawberry Switchblade.......now there's a name I haven't heard in a long while.....all I've got is their bittersweet debut (I think) 12" single of Trees And Flowers, with stellar backing from Roddy Frame of Aztec Camera plus Bedders and Woody from Madness....I hate the trees.........and I hate the flowers.........and I hate the buildings.....and the way they tower over meeeeee......... How many albums did they put out anyway?

Sorry to say, but the only B-52's show I saw was a tired affair indeed, on a bad night, but it still didn't deter me from being a fan, and Monster was a big favourite on the local college station back then.

They're overrated, to be sure. But...they're also just a really dumb, fun band. Which is all they try to be anyway. It's the music media's fault that they had the label of "BEST ROCK BAND SINCE NIRVANA!" foisted upon them.

They are (by their own admission, and really - doing a video where they do nothing but drink with Bob Pollard reinforces this) just a rock band. They wear their influences on the sleeve proudly, and what you see is what you get.

I agree the Strokes are overrated, but the Stripes are awesome and deserve all the credit they deserve; they make awesome music.

I remember the Bolshoi, and know that they had a couple of records out, even some that were released in the US, but I can't exactly recall many other details about 'em. Weren't they a 3-piece band?

Only in the first album (85), then became a foursome. They had three albums- 85, 86, 87 - and a Best of (believe me, cause I have it! ). I think they were funny. IMHO, the best anti-band. The vocalist call themselves nowadays as "The best band that nobody’s ever heard of".

The weird is that Brazil is maybe the place where they were most sucessful.
