Sunday Times Culture magazine had an article on BSP which mentioned Joy Division twice, Jeremy Vine, Elgar and the Czech national anthem. They are the "best band in Britain". Should we be interested?

Nah, he didn't bother in the end. Iain & Bunny have been following them lately - all the high spots: Nottingham, Mansfield, Oxford, etc. They're really into them. Confess, I've not heard a single track of theirs.
I think BSP is an excellent band and I'm glad the album is finally out. I've only had a couple of mp3s (spirit of st. louis, remember me, the lonely) but they were enough to leave me anxiously anticipating the release of their full length. I should get the import in the mail in the next couple days. But yeah, the joy division comparisons are pretty relevant. For lack of a better comparison I'd say these guys are the british interpol. Kind JD sounding, but not really.
weren't the rise of british sea power one of the minor factors leading to world war I? what with the germans building lots of battleships and britain trying to stay one step ahead since they had always had the great big armada?

Right.I have had this album since Thursday and it is truly brilliantine. This must be the best album this year. One track, Carrion, is beyond superlatives. It was all I could play for the first 24 hours. Since then I have discovered another five stand out tracks and that figure grows the more I play it. Believe me, I'm not going overboard about this band, they are special.

my only problem with the album is that there aren't any more songs like 'apologies to insect life' because its a stormer. also wish they included 'spirit of st. louis' but i'll just have to settle with my mp3s.
As my experience of the band is less than one week old I dont have any earlier stuff than the debut album so I will have to go a-hunting.

i heard about the band from the 'well hung at dawn' guys on rollingstone.com. They're knee deep in obscure bands. BSP have about three singles, but when I checked them out on allmusic.com, they all seem to have the same 3 songs on them and most of which appear on the album (fear of drowning, the lonely, remember me). I think 'spirit of st. louis' is one of the only songs from the singles that dont appear on the lp. I think they re-recorded a couple songs for the lp, so if youre into alternate versions, you can at least buy a different version of 'the lonely' with your hard earned cash.

I agree that their recording output has been hardly prolific but their live performances have by all accounts been amazing/bordering on the bizarre. They were in Manchester last month but of course I missed them through sheer ignorance. Their remaining gigs on the tour are all in the south of England and Wales in the next week so it seems likely I will miss them this time round.
BSP are quite a good band. mostly because of the progression of their singles. their newest single, "the lonely" is by far some of their best. yow!

I'd die to see them live. massive fake birds, military uniforms, etc. I also heard that they have really strange opening acts - notsomuch bands but magicians and dieticians and whatnot. Am I wrong on this one? I think the guys in clinic might have taken a shining to BSP, because I heard they were gonna do something similar for their next tour. (or this is where Im getting my wrong info from)
just checked & they are playing in the louisianna in bristol tomorrow - that's a tiny venue - you couldnt fit many fake birds in there (realistic hair or not)
Nows your chance, Dave. Put on a camouflage jacket and go along with a notebook. If I didn't have an under 12's cricket match to umpire tomorrow night I might have considered jumping ship and leaving the first mate in charge here.

I may have mentioned it before but Clinic are from Crosby, where I live. Ade Blackburn and Jonathon Hartley were in my class in school. The first New Order and Joy Division records I owned were purchased from Hartley.
I know it's not quite up there with sitting next to the runner up in Miss Great Britain but there ya go.

listened to most of it once - vocals remind me of the bunnymen - too soon to say what I think but its not put me off going to see them tonight, its a rilly small venue which surprises me given the good reviews they have had...

The first time I listened to it I started with Carrion through the end and was a little bothered by the whispery quality to some of the vocals, but on further listens that seemed less of a problem.
I started with carrion cos of someone (you?) bigging it up on this thread, then went straight to track one.
