Yankees get a no-hitter....against them.

This is why I love baseball, wierd shit happens sometimes....

Yesterday the Yankees played the Astros in Yankee Stadium, and the game was notable for two reasons:

1. Apparently it's the first no-hitter thrown against the Yankees since the late Fifties (I'm quoting one of the analysts on ESPN, so I could be wrong about that :D )

2. it took six of the Astros' best arms to do it, the first pitcher had to leave early at one point and apparently they had to keep sending in different guys.

Dammit, why'd I have to work last night?

I must say, following the season as best I can, it's been one of those "gods falling down to earth" seasons, with the Yankees struggling to keep in it and Sammy Sosa a known corker. Meanwhile, you've got the Detroit Tigers aiming for "worst team in the history of baseball" status (I still think it's gonna be a Tigers-vs.-Cubs World Series, or possibly Red Sox vs. the Mets ), and all sorts of shenanigans that I can't recall this early in the morning.

Oh well, just wanted to share with the class yet another historic matchup that I missed. Very impressive on the Astros' part, I must say (I know, I'll be accused of pandering to the Texan contingent of the site. If I REALLY wanted to pander, though, I'd buy me some Dixie Chicks CDs - for burning, of course-and vote for Dubya in '04, and so on and so on). Anyway, here's to a Padres-Mariners World Series!

That's all I heard about today, from the insufferable Red Sox fan I work with ; the bitterness and pure jealousy of their fans make me glad that they are in the same division as the Yanks, it'd be funny if it wasn't so pathetic, and I'm not even that much of a Yankee fan (Mets, Giants, and Mariners here). At least the Yankees were class enough to send the Astros pitchers some sparkling champagne after the game.

BTW, a picture of Bill Buckner, goat of the 86 Series, is going up at work as a short sharp reminder of that collective giant millstone around the necks of the Boston fans.
