I just saw that in Seattle on Aug. 9th, there was "An Evening of Joy Division covers" by a bunch of bands I've never heard of at the Sunset Tavern. Although I probably couldn't have attended myself, I wish I would've found out about it sooner for the sake of all y'all. Stupid me.

Not that I know of. I don't know thing one about the venue or the bands, although I'll give you the names of the featured bands (which are probably all local to the Seattle area) if you're interested enough to surf the web for their websites to look for covers: Black Night Crash, The Turn-Ons, Suffering & The Hideous Thieves, Infomatik, The Jeunes, Jason from 6FG. I noticed the words "Joy Division" out of the corner of my eye in tiny print in the sidebar of the Stranger, a local weekly newspaper.

I finally got around to reading the rest of the newspaper and found a little blurb about the show:

"If you ever want to be truly depressed, pick up the Joy Division tribute album that Virgin Records released a few years ago. I'm not talking about listening to the songs themselves (although I'm pretty sure I'm one of a handful of people who find the band's bleak, angular missives truly life-affirming). I'm referring to the hugely uninspired hack jobs turned in by most of the artists on the album. Thankfully, the folk's appearing at tonight's Joy Division tribute (Black Nite Crash, Suffering and the Hideous Thieves, Infomatic, the Jeunes, and 6FG) are actual fans--which should guarantee passionate, quality renditions of all your favorite Joy Division tunes. Call it a black celebration...."

Aah, The Swans, one of my favourite 80's bands and their version of LWTUA is my favourite cover. The singer is now doing folk music and runs his own record label.

isn't that label called aesthetics? i have a windsor for the derby album that was realeased on that label. it is fairly relaxing.

i too think the swans cover of LWTUA is a pretty good cover. recomended to those who haven't heard.

Nah, it's called "Young God Records" younggodrecords.com and The Swans singer, Michael Gira fronts a band called Angels Of Light.
