Manchester United offers contract to SportsDay Player of Year 05:10 PM CDT on Thursday, August 14, 2003

Kenny Cooper Jr., an SMU signee, has been offered a contract by Manchester United, the world's most popular and prestigious soccer team, the SMU athletic department confirmed Thursday. He is expected to sign the contract next week.

Cooper, a forward and SportsDay's 2002-03 High School Player of the Year, scored 13 goals as he led Jesuit High School to a 13-0-2 record last season. He scored goals in victories over the area's best teams: Lake Highlands, Coppell, Duncanville and Richardson Pearce.

After a trip to England two years ago, Cooper Jr. was offered three academy contracts.

"I thought it best to come back and get my high school degree," he said in an interview with The Dallas Morning News last spring.

Cooper's father played professionally for the Dallas Tornado and coached the Baltimore Blast.

Sorry to disagree with you Mike but the most prestigious, popular and above all successful soccer team in the world must surely be Real Madrid (which I must add I do not support) but estatistics are on Madrid's side

Sir Alex is legendary in his ability to spot talent. There was that recent case where he spotted a young Afghan lad juggling a tin-can on his foot during some BBC news report from a refugee camp. A scout was dispatched and he managed to track the boy down. The lad signed and impressed during some reserve games, so finally had a run out with the first team. When he called his Mother to tell her the good news, she really tore into him saying that it was all well and good that he was playing football, but that in the mean time his Father had been murdered, his sister raped by a gang of officials of the brutal regime and that his brother was currently being held against his will. The lad meekly pointed out that that had nothing to do with him, but the reply came...

The Mavs are Dallas' NBA franchise. Our baseball team is the forever cursed Texas Rangers . Although, they are playing well now........
