Yeah, ARAGON! Was there last October to see Morrissey. Nice place, right size, quite cool. Was a great place to take my girl out. You can rock the rail or you can find a place in back to talk to someone in the light and away from the music. Lots of history, an actual ballroom. Designed to appear as if you are in the courtyard of a Spanish village. Faint stars twinkle in the black ceiling. You enter from the street, pass through the grand hall to the back, go up the double staircase and wrap around to see the floor there before you. There are 2 flooors: main and balcony which wraps around in a full U that spans about 15 feet from the walls and about 15 feet above the floor. Bar carts are all below the balcony. Coat check on the ground floor. Clean bathrooms. It's still in the city, but among townhomes so its street parking for miles, so either find a meter or cough up 40 bucks for the two 30-car lots across the street. The El (train) goes nextdoor but might not stop exactly there. cheers! Any locals going let me know!

yes quite right Spotty! GenAdmin is what i recall. Cos there isnt a whole lot of "special seating" to divide up as in modern venues! A real casual scene. And no real stiff personnel either from what i recall. WOO presale! I dont know if its needed given the "selective" audience, but it wouldnt' hurt to make sure, given the small venue and a city of Millions of people!

I was home last week and heard Krafty once on 93.1 WXRT, the best station for noticing and playing actual talent - not afraid to play what is good. They sponsored the Morrissey show so prob the New Order show if any station. I'll be listening to the online stream from now on to hear about promotion in order to gage the demand for tickets.

the aragon like ross described, is an awesome venue to be in/look at. the sound sucks but the charm and history of the place make up for it. my fiances grandparents used to go ballroom dancing there in the 40's before they were married.

the neighborhood is semi-ghetto. if you don't mind being asked for ciggs, change, asked to buy streetwise papers, and stay the hell away from the 5 dollar tshirt ppl. that shit gets ruined after 1 wash. i would not suggest driving there, and if you do, pay for parking across the street. on two seperate occassions, my friends had their cars broken into while at the aragon. there will not be any street parking on Lawrence. your best bet is on Broadway (2 blocks west) or on Sheridan (2 blocks east) but again, I try to avoid driving there whenever possible. Also, parking might be tight cause Ben Folds is playing at the Riviera that same night, the Riv is 2 blocks away from the Aragon. And if the Cubs play a night game, ppl usually park a few miles away and take the train to the stadium. Parking on side streets may have permit parking only for residents, if you park in these zones, you risk a ticket or getting your car towed.

I suggest taking the red line train. it stops right at the ballroom. you would get off at lawrence and cross the street to the venue. other bus routes are available, that being the Broadway bus and Sheridan bus, and the Lawrence bus.

cool ass place to get drinks and hang out before the show is the green mill. located 2 blocks west of the Aragon. its a jazz lounge that is very comfortable when not packed.

i know this is all too early to post and all, but hope this info helps.

ps---don't look for hotels near the airport, you'll have to take the blue line to the red line to the venue. it will take over an hour. even if you drive, it will take 30-40 minutes from ohare to the aragon, thats usually without traffic. and 90/94 is fucking a mess during rush our traffic.

there are plenty of cheap ass hotels in the city a short way to downtown and even closer to the Aragon.

if you fly into Midway, its even further to the Aragon.

Look for hotels on the Northside of chicago (andersonville, edgewater, rogers park, lincoln park), near the lake, near 24 hr public transportation spots as well.

after the show, best place to go is Neo. 21 and over. no cover. open till 4am. Ironically enough, Tuesdays is tons of Manchester bands, New wave, post punk, shoe gazing stuff.

It's gonna be another expensive month, I also got my tix for the two Gang of Four shows at the Metro. yay!

How does the presale work?  Do you have to be at the venue for that to work or can you participate in the presale via internet?

yo, on page one of this thread, spotnick gave the direct link to the new order chicago tix page. you can click on that or just go to ticketmaster.com and do a search for new order. the presale is on friday from i think 1030am to 530pm central time. when your buying your tickets it will ask for the presale password. its very obvious and cannot be missed.

wow yeah that would be incredible. the energy in there is going to be huge. By the way, is there ever a chance that some Electronic/Revenge/The Other Two songs would be performed? I've always wondered how sideprojects can get played live after the fact. I remember Morrissey opened his show with How Soon Is Now and that surprised me since I thought The Smiths aren't technically the same band as Morrissey, but maybe he retained his rights to the songs. Could it ever be the same way for New Order and their side projects? It would be such a waste to let those tracks fade away you know...And since the Joy Division songs are being performed again could it be that by now in NO's career they'd want to fully showcase all they've inspired? just my two pennies. maybe the wrong thread.

I got patted down when i saw Morrissey in October at the Aragon. They split the girls and guys up in lines and did the pat down, and from what i can remember cameras weren't welcome. So i've heard the advice of bringing a disposable one if you're gonna try at concerts that dont allow them. cheers.

Safest place for cameras is right next to your Willy or Willyette.  Chicago pat down nazis miss mine everytime.

The Aragon isn't that bad to sneak cameras in. we did it for a bunch of shows there. just hide it well. they do a pat down but its just pockets and legs, and arms. i actually snuck into a soundgarden show at the aragon. a friend of mine was collecting tickets at the door, and i slid in easily. oh yeah, you can hear the soundcheck and stuff from the alley. and if you get there early enough, they'll enter through the alley on the side of the building. good oportunity to meet them if you want to wait out way before the show starts.

:D Miss what? the camera?

The Aragon used to allow cameras, but the last few times I've been there I had to leave mine at home. Security is not much of a hassle, but be warned, if the place is sold out it's gonna take you awhile to get out of there. There's only one exit by the back and 4,000 people trying to descend the one staircase at the same time.

Don't drive, take the red line and get off at the Lawrence stop I believe, the Aragon is right across the street. Don't wonder off from the main streets, the neighboorhood is not as safe as you might think.
