New Order live @ Henry J Kaiser Arena - Oakland (USA) - 2005.04.29

The layout on the Henry Kaiser website is a bastard to read. I'm in row G4 - anyone have any idea where that will be in relation to the stage?

Isn't this a GA show?

It is yeah. So what should I make of what it says on my ticket (Row G4 seats 278-280)? Never been to a general admission gig, is it the sooner you get in the closer you to the stage you get?

Hmm, sometimes the GA tickets list a specific section (which is irrelevent) but i've never heard of a GA ticket listing a specific seat.  But yeah, for GA shows, the sooner you get there, the closer to the stage. I like it better this way, can't stand having the seats.

Happily, my ticket for Oakland arrived in the post today.

can anyone suggest nearby decent bars (emphasis BARS not danceclubs) in oakland to get my drink on, pre-show?   Strong & cheap drinks, a good jukebox,  divey/punk atmosphere, a smoking patio, and a pool table would all be a plus.   Stuffed shirts and a prevalence of yuppies would be a minus.

How many songs do you lot think they will play?

I'm heading out there from Nashville. Catching New Order with the Chemical Brothers is just too good to miss.  Surely, they're gonna play Here to Stay?

Everybody I talked to who went to Oakland All agreed "Get the hell out of Oakland as soon as you can!"

Oakland is not a safe place to hang out. I was thinking of going to the Hard Rock Cafe San Fran after the show to get a shirt.

I have never been in any city but Dallas. Can I get close to the stage? I would really wish it, I got a general admission ticket.

Is Oakland a beautiful city? Worth sightseeing?

Oakland has a bad reputation, but like much of San Francisco there has been a lot of gentrification and there are some nice areas (my husband, who used to live in there, assures me the neighborhood around Lake Merritt is cool). However, you'll probably want to head to SF, go to Chinatown, the Haight, and the Mission for sure and maybe North Beach if you are a fan of the Beats (you can still have coffee where Jack Kerouac used to hang out, at Cafe Trieste). If you're a record collector you might want to make your first stop at Amoeba Records on Haight, it's the biggest, craziest record store I've ever been to (housed in a former bowling alley). So, there's lots to do. If you wanted to stay on the East Bay side there's always Berkeley (more good record stores, lots of students, very pretty and laid back).

Well TurnJim I changed my mind, I'll be up in Oaktown for the show and then begin the mad dash down I-5 to Coachella. I already called my hotel and said "Hold the room Friday night, I'll be coming in late, very late, light sun coming up late." They said for the festival and I said "No, for New Order"....

Apparently Hernan Cattaneo, a South American DJ according to google, will be the support at Oakland. Does this mean Arthur Baker won't be there?

He's a New order fan in fact and apparently a pretty good DJ

definitely don't stay in oakland. stay in san francisco, it is a 10 minute drive over the bay bridge to the concert venue. I suggest the Hilton San Francisco, as we can all go party after the concert if anyone is game...also if you use priceline.com you can always get a 4 star hotel in SF for around 70US dollars.

Well before the concert I'd like to take pictures of the city, because I would have about 4 hours before the concert after I'd arrive to Oakland Airport. Do they have skyscrapers or just a nice beach?

San Francisco is not known for it's beaches but there's plenty to see. The city is actually fairly small, being limited by the amount of real estate. The only growth it's experienced was when the land under the financial district was created with the rubbish from the 1906 earthquake (not the place you want to be when another one hits). That being said, 4 hours is barely enough time to scratch the surface. The skyline is interesting, with the TransAmerica building and what not, but there's nothing really huge. You'll find great food, art and shopping but if it's your first visit you'll probably want to do the touristy stuff like go to Alcatraz or ride the cable cars.

I AM PLANNING ON DRIVING UP FROM L.A., NOT IN THE MOOD TO STAND AROUND ALL DAY AT COACHELLA, DOES ANYONE FROM OAKLAND HAVE AN IDEA OF PLACES TO STAY IN THE AREA OR NEARBY? CHEERS!!!

I would suggest staying in SF as it is very close and much nicer. You can get a 4 star hotel in north beach or nob hill for 69 dollars on priceline, almost everyday. That is what I did for this little excursion.

Does anyone know if they'll play their old classics like Bizarre Love Triangle and Blue Monday?
