what happened at aragon that made you boycott it?
The place just has to be the world's worst venue to see a show. Too
many reasons to list, but number one has to be the atrocious sound
quality of the place. It sounds like you're in an airplane hangar
listening to a show - and that's a polite way of describing it. But
since this'll possibly be my one last chance to see NO (I saw them at
the World Music Theatre in Tinley Park, IL in '93) again I figured I'd
suck it up.
To put it in perspective: One of my all-time favorite bands is the
Pixies. I saw them in '91 in Denver but they didn't play anything
pre-Doolittle and I was bummed. Pixies reunite for gigs last year (as
we all know about). Where do they play in Chicago? 5 nights at the
Aragon. Did Drew see the Pixies last year? No. Would Drew have moved
mountains to see the Pixies at any other venue in Chicago? Damn
straight I would have.
But I love New Order more than the Pixies, which is why I'm sucking
it up this time around. BTW the Pixies aren't the only band I've
skipped seeing because they were at the Aragon - I'd have to say I've
skipped around 20-30 shows over that period that I'd have seen in a
heartbeat at nearly any other venue.

Man, you are crazy for having missed those crazy nights!
I was there for all shows, front row and the sound was fucking great.
I've seen a few bands there, and the sound wasn't as bad as people make
it to be. I don't think I could ever miss a gig because of a venue,
well there were the Belle and Sebastian, Mogwai, and etc gigs, but
going to the fireside or the congress theatre alone is just asking for
trouble.
