The Turin is looking a little shroudy these days.

It's a festival, but damned if I can find anything in that area on July 2nd? Turin does seem to host rather a LOT of festivals per year though!

My money's on the Traffic Free Festival, because that's the only festival I can find in Turin at that time...

Most probably going to this, but it does depend on another band confirming... [:P]

This other band? 808 State per chance?!

What, is this festival geuinely 'free' then?!

Nah, not 808 (I wish!), although you never know? [*-)]

Dunno about your other question, I can't read Italian! [:P]

Uhm, yeah, it might be this, it's also an important festival as Iggy Pop played last year, so New Order could play this year... I hope it's this one so we won't have problems getting tickets, it must be one of those free festivals entirely sponsored by the city councils... I'm really happy this is gonna happen, though I won't believe it until I have more news... this year I was afraid I'd have missed seeing New Order live because I have no money to go to England, but it would be great luck if they came in Turin, only 3 hours of train away from my town! :) The only problem of this site is it's totally outdated, nothing else other than the dates of this year, everything else is about last year! Please post info as soon as you know it, I'll try some research but getting news about gigs in advance is a nightmare in Italy...

keep us updated Mick......... my lack of Italian doesn't really help matters......

How big is Turin? Will finding a cheap (ish) hotel be a problem?

Heard a friend of mine today who went last year and she confirmed it's a free festival. Turin is a huge city, the second city of northern Italy. I guess it's the nearer you get to Manchester, a very grey and sad industrial city, now in decay because of the decline of the most important factories. There's also some sort of alternative music scene, mostly of the electronic-reggae-dub-drum'n'bass genre rather than rock. Subsonica, who played last year, are a great band. Other bands to check are Africa Unite and Marlene Kuntz, who come from Cuneo, in the same region, and are the most important band in Italy, sort of Joy Division updated through Sonic Youth, Pixies, Nirvana and Radiohead. Turin should be about 4,000,000 residents, it's the city of FIAT cars and Juventus football team, owned by the same family. There are a couple of monuments but it's definitely not a tourist city, though the museum of ancient Egypt is interesting... the Alps surrounding the city are really beautiful of course. Finding a hotel shouldn't be too difficult, I recommend this site I use myself: http://www.soloalberghi.com/index.php (also in English and other languages). The festival should happen in a park or another place within the city, so once you get in Turin you shouldn't have problems. Still be cautious, it's not the easiest city, keep your eyes open, there's quite some small crime around. Those of you who visited cities in southern France like Marseille and Nice (hoping to spell them correctly) might get an idea... Don't bring too much money with you and bring the cheaper camera...

Okey dokey, so a flight to Turin on the Friday from London and then returning again on the Sunday costs about 80 quid all-in (including taxes) via EasyJet...

Anyone found anything cheaper?

The legendary punk-new wave Italian band CCCP are strongly rumoured to reunite for the first time after 15 years, for one concert only at the Traffic festival in Turin. If you can see them, don't miss this opportunity! CCCP were one of the most inventive punk bands, the attitude was punk but the sound was also influenced by post punk and had often a devastating impact. One of the top three new wave bands in the 80s, they split at the end of the decade. Some of them formed a new band called CSI (more melodic, experimental and mature at the same time, though basically still new wave) and a record label called CPI which was the most important alternative record company of the 90s, launching bands like Marlene Kuntz, still the most important rock band here, and other bands like Divine (sort of Bjork meets Dubstar) who didn't enjoy all the success they'd have deserved. It was a very exciting scene (every week there were two or three great concerts in your area and new bands, including mine, were forming everywhere to try to catch the moment) which wasn't too different from Factory and I still believe our mid 90s were better than the British mid 90s... At the end of the decade the band split and the record label closed, but again some of the members formed a new band called PGR, but this time the band is not as good or influential as the previous two incarnations... I've seen CSI live many times and in rare evnts they played a couple of CCCP songs and I can say it's an amazing live experience, a bit like seeing the Pixies or New Order do Joy Division songs. Former members say this reunion is very likely to happen, so if it does, don't miss it...

When I looked a couple of days ago Saturday-Sunday from Luton was 70 notes, Saturday-Monday was 35.

Glad I didn't book though, am going via Belgium now, obviously!

I admit I'm a bit worried about this concert...

Unfortunately New Order in Italy haven't ever enjoyed much success from the kind of people who go at concerts... they're mostly fond of Joy Division and still judge New Order as disco whores betraying the original sound of the band and not able to do anything decent without Ian...

They're just fookin retarded depressed Goths.

I know because I was one of them. ;)

The alternative press is to blame, they almost never respected New Order, the only positive review was for Get Ready because it was perceived as a return to a sound more similar to Joy Division... the first reactions about this album aren't very good, only a few defend it, for the most of the people it's meaningless pop...

I'm worried about a cold reaction, especially if this punk band will play in the same day, there won't be many people open minded enough to like New Order's different sound.

They better start with a couple of songs by Joy Division, that could make the audience remember who they are and carry on the respect necessary to tolerate the most electronic numbers...

If they start with Jetstream or Guilt, the show is virtually over...

I know there are a lot of New Order fans like me too, but I don't know how many of them will come to the gig...

I'll bring a bazooka and shoot every fookin cunt who dares to boo them... ;)

I'm happy if some of you come, we must definitely meet and concentrate on the same place in front of the stage to make some noise to support the band, they'll need us...

Don't worry too much there'll probably be quite a healthy brit contingent, return of the self preservation society.

Well, I've already gone and booked my flight, so if they don't turn up... Ah well, Turin's a nice place, and it should be hot at that time of year! :D

808 State should also be there, and possibly one other singer from Manchester (think wooly hat! :D ). AFAIK, I think that the bands are waiting for the contracts to be signed, before they announce it as official...

But, yes, there should be quite a few of us Brits there, and I, for one, have always loved Italy, so it should be good! :thumb:

Traffic Turin Free Festival - II Edition from June 29 to July 2 in Turin

with New Order's Exclusive Italian Date (July 2)

Only show in continental Europe of the reformed Throbbing Gristle (June 29)

After the success of the first edition, Turin will be again protagonist of an event unique for its features and totally free, which means to place the city at the centre of the contemporary youth culture: Traffic Turin Free Festival, from Wednesday June 29 to Saturday July 2 (for info to the general audience: 800015475 - http://www.trafficfestival.com).

The artistic direction is by Max Casacci from Subsonica, Fabrizio Gargarone (director of the legendary venue Hiroshima Mon Amour), Alberto Campo (music journalist from Repubblica and director of Rumore) and Cosimo Ammendolia (director of Suoneria and Radar/Metropolis).

Amongst the exclusive events in the bill there is a day dedicated to the musical scene of Manchester which will peak with the concert by New Order, Saturday July 2 on the stage at Parco Della Pellerina.

A feature of Traffic Turin Free Festival is to twin the city each year with another city after social, economic and cultural reasons. In the first edition Detroit was chosen, as Turin an industrial city transforming also through its vital music scene. The same can be said for Manchester, where music has had an essential role in its postindustrial growth. The idea is to represent whithin a day the crucial period began at the end of the Seventies, straight after punk (Joy Division, from which came New Order, invited to play live on the festival main stage on Saturday July 2, only Italian date of the current world tour) through the scene at the end of the Eighties called Madchester (represented by techno pioneers 808 State, by former Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder and Hacienda DJs Mike Pickering and Graeme Parks, all present in the day in different performances). Protagonist and witness of the entire story, and as such invited to be the master of ceremony, is Tony Wilson, founder of Factory Records and the Hacienda. A charachter of which the story has been told by Michael Winterbottom in the movie 24 Hour Party People, which will be premiered in a national preview in the afternoon of July 2 at The Cinema Museum.

Opening the festival, in the evening of June 29, will be the only performance in the whole continental Europe of Throbbing Gristle: legendary group founder of the industrial genre (it's not by chance that the scene of this performance is the area of the Limone Foundry in Moncalieri, one of the biggest postindustrial areas in the city), for this event with the support of extraordinary DJs (Martin Gore from Depeche Mode and Peaches) and of the concert of Pansonic from Finland.

This year the events of Traffic will happen again in representative places of the city: Parco Della Pellerina, Murazzi Del Po, Spazio 211, Fonderie Limone, Cinema Massimo... The Traffic Turin Free Festival, in collaboration with the City of Turin and the Region of Piemonte, is sponsored by Telecom Italia.

Only show in continental Europe of the reformed Throbbing Gristle

Does it ever end? A big TG fan (that's the blue TG flash on the right shoulder of my avatar) but I'd have expected a Psychic TV reunion to have been more popular. PTV had almost as much influence as NO on bringing rock and electronica togther.

I'd love to see TG again, but I'm not expecting a rapturous response.

I assume that "only show in continental Europe" means they're playing more in the UK, not the States?

Well, PTV are back as well, as PTV3. They'll be playing at Birmingham on July 7. They're even back in the studio, all the updates are on Gen's website (http://www.genesisp-orridge.com). I agree that the Throbbing Gristle rereunion is a bit silly.

Also, from a comment from Gen in his blog: "We are all heartbroken. S/he will even miss playing with Iggy in Barcelona, and meeting me old Mancunian friends New Order..."

Hi Mick,

Do you know of any decent hotels to stay in Turin on those dates, as it sounds as though Turin could be pretty packed over those dates, so a hotel booking is in order! :)

Cheers! :thumb:

I don't know any hotel in Turin, but I know where I'll search. I've always used http://www.soloalberghi.com/index.php, a very extensive hotel directory (also in English), with a lot of info and, when possible, links to the sites of the hotels (of all kinds). I've never been disappointed. It's not that they list only good hotels, beware (they list crap hotels as well), but if you look enough they give you info enough to let you make the right choice. Once again, Turin is not a safe city, the area of the park where New Order will play is not safe at all, so be always very careful, though I don't think it's more dangerous than some suburbs in Paris... A map of Turin with the target on the area where the park should be.

There's a few of us coming over from England, no plans yet, not even booked the Hotel but we'll be sorting something out soon. Stay in touch cos you're more than welcome to join us for a beer.

For those making the trip from the uk to Turin www.ryanair.com do some amazing cheap fares (from under a tenner one way...+ tax etc. I know..) and probably to other places on the Euro Tour.

Cheers Mick, apparently a hotel near the Porta Nuova railway station (centre of Turin, near the Egyptian museum) is a good idea, so that looks like a good candidate to stay.

There will apparently also be regular buses between the city centre and the festival (at Parco Della Pellerina).

There's a decent map here

Looking forward to this - see you all there! :thumb:

Oh, and the Traffic Festival website's been updated with (at the very least) a lineup!

It's a free festival, so no need for a ticket!

Is that a fact or an assumption, many free festivals have a limit of attendance due to health and safety and issue free tickets to locals etc. This is true in UK especially after the Flat Boy Slim gig which had tragic consequences cause over 300 000 turned up and then the tide came in on Brighton Beech.

Also Radio 1 did free gigs in Sunderland recently but you had to que up and get your FREE ticket the week before.

What I want to know is has any body phoned / emailed Turin tourist information and asked the question. My younger bro is fluent so I will be asking him to do it.

Ive booked the flights and Hotel anyway now but at least if there are tickets being issued I may stand a chance of getting one.

Ive decided to go posh, treat the wife and go 5*. After All I would have spent 6 days in a tent in field in somerset the week before.

Hope we can meet up with some of you guys out there.

yep this is a good map...cheers Nick, seems the site is to the north of the city, so hotels such as this would seem possible candidates - anyone else have any better options?

Good question, I'll attempt to try and find out for you, but if you find out beforehand, let us know.

I do know that if you're intending to book a hotel, do it NOW, as they're likely to be full when the festival date gets closer... :thumb:

Apparently, anywhere in the centre of the city is recommended for hotels. There will be a bus service between the city and the festival operating all the time (according to Turin Tourist Centre). They recommended the hotels near the main railway station (Porta Nuova).

There's the full schedule on the site I think it's stupid to not include versions in other languages of the exhaustive info since Turin is pretty near to France and quite some English fans will come too. Anyway you can understand the most of the info once you can navigate the menu: Programma completo = Full schedule Dove = Where Chi = Who

June 29: Throbbing Gristle, Pan Sonic and Martin Gore (DJ set) at the Limone Foundry in Moncalieri.

June 30: Bright Eyes and The Faint at Spazio 211. Aphex Twin and Chris Cunningham on the Main Stage at the Park.

July 1: Perturbazione and Emiliana Torrini at Spazio 211. Carmen Consoli on the Main Stage. Boosta at Giancarlo in the Murazzi area (from midnight). [Frankly this is the least interesting night of the festival for a New Order fan, and unfortunately I can arrive in Turin only July 1st, missing the more interesting performances of the previous nights. The only good performance should be the DJ set of Boosta from Subsonica, but beware the Murazzi area is the most dangerous of Turin]

July 2: New Order and 808 State on the Main Stage. Graeme Park and Jon Da Silva at The Beach in the Murazzi area (from midnight) [again the Murazzi is dangerous, though sparkling with night life, this area is plagued by gangs just waiting for you, I think I won't bring my girlfriend to such a place... BTW it seems Pickering won't be there] Shaun Ryder and Tony Wilson at Giancarlo in the Murazzi area (from midnight) [read above]

Free shuttle buses should work to connect the various places where the events are going to happen.

You should be soon able to require the free Traffic card which allows you to travel free on the buses of the city and free entries at museums. You will collect it at the Vetrina Torinocultura - Atrium Città in Piazza Solferino.

Hi Mick,

Many thanks for the translations - very useful!

The Traffic website has been updated again with details on the Traffic Free Card, but it seems as though you need to be Italian to get one???

Hmmm...

They've also listed a number of hotels on their site (cheers - already booked one! :evil4: )!!!

l8rs,

Nick ;)

Yeah, Blue Monday started Madchester, we all remember Crispy Ambulance, their baggy trousers and their rave parties... ;) Spotnick would have done better with Babelfish, not that I would have done better though... Still, one of the best thing ever happened in Italy, so full respect to them... You can require the card in the English version too... :thumb: English Version : info : Traffic Free Card : subscription form.

Hey people, I just can't believe that next Saturday I'll see New Order in Turin... I really hope I can meet everyone from this forum coming... How can we meet? I don't know much of the area surrounding the park (I just know it's in a suburb with nothing of interest around), nor when I'll arrive, but I wish we'd find a way to meet anyway... Well for now let's say if nobody writes anything else, I'll be at the extreme right corner of the stage one hour before the concert begins, that's like 20.30 I think, so we can go from there to the best place to see New Order, that's in front of Hooky of course. But any other idea will be welcome. I should be in a varied company including my girlfriend, my sister, Manuel and a mate of his, another fortysomething from Rome with his 12 years old son and who knows who else... I still have to choose whether to wear my historic self-made shirt, worn at every New Order gig, or the still classic black bootleg shirt from Manchester 1998... I've been told the Murazzi area has become safer in the recent years, with more night life and less gang criminals, so I might even come to the party with Tony Wilson and Shaun Ryder after the gig... :thumb:

I see the two threads have been merged. Good. So who's coming this Saturday? The Italian New Order Fan Club (well, Manuel, Marco and me) are waiting for you! :thumb: I can't think of a place where we can meet outside the park as it's a pretty sad (and unsafe) suburb area surrounding the park. I just think we should find a place in the park, my temporary idea is the right corner of the stage, just look at the stage and go right until the stage ends. That's where we'll be one hour earlier than 808 State beginning. Any other idea will be appreciated. I'll be wearing either a self made New Order shirt or the black unofficial one from Apollo 98 (Hooky said it was much better than the official 'Recycle' one and he was damn right) and my Vikings 2002 badge of course!

Maybe if you had a big Liverpool flag that would help gather everyone together; might stir the crowd up a bit too.

I am coming alone from Milan and hope to meet up with everyone. Maybe if we met downtown in Turino where (I assume) the hotels are we could get on transport togther to go to the park. We could meet at some monument or something. Just an idea. Look forward to seeing everyone. Briant

How's transport from Trieste or Venice to Turin ? Could I refer to any NOOLer if asked where I'm going to at the Schengen border ? Is it really free ? Because I had to show my ticket when I was going to see the Pixies in Ljubljana last year. Feel free to contact my private mail. BTW that would be my first time ever to se New Order, I'm shaking as I type.

*Well, that's because Venice is two hours from Trieste. The total length is seven hours, because it's five hours from Mestre (the biggest station of Venice). To get to Venice you just have to pass through Trieste, that's the entry from Slovenia and Croatia, this is a journey from the far east to the far west of Italy. Sometimes you have to change in Milan, but it's about the same, three hours from Venice to Milan and two from Milan To Turin. You can check the English site of Trenitalia, the national railway company: http://www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html R and IR mean local trains, they can't be booked. IC mean Intercity, it's highly recommended to book them, only a few places are free from booking. ES means Eurostar and they must be booked. You're kinda lucky because there's a train every hour or so. I wasn't aware that you still could have problems entering the EU. The times I've been to Croatia I just showed my ID, even when there was still the united Yugoslavia in the 80s. Frontiers between Italy and Slovenia are now open, they usually let you go without even stopping, and I thought it was like the same between Croatia and Slovenia. If you're worried you should go to a police office asking info or better a travel agency and book the train tickets, return too, and just show them if anyone bother, but I can't see why that has a reason to happen and why they asked you when you went to Slovenia to see the Pixies, maybe they were just curious to know why you were travelling. :confused2:

Because I had to show my ticket when I was going to see the Pixies in Ljubljana last year. Feel free to contact my private mail. BTW that would be my first time ever to se New Order, I'm shaking as I type.

take a train from venice if you can. i think the fastest one from trieste is like 8 hourse, but from venice its 5 or so.

I've never had problems with the Italian customs, but with Slovenians I had, and now they're the gateway into the EU) and we're only required to show an ID when entering both Slovenia and Italy, so I was very unpleasantly surprised by the Pixies incident. I'm worried now because this is a ticketless concert !

Just checked the timetables. I'm supposed to be arriving in Turin at 7 am, I'm leaving Zagreb at two in the afternoon, a lovely seventeen hour ride (on the bright side, I won't have to pay for a night in hotel), but let's hope it will be worth it. A friend of mine studies Italian and art history, so she'll supply me with a map of what to see in Turin. If there is any sort of a meetup before the concert, I'd really like to join in.

I hope you're not facing the travel alone and you'll have some rest after the concert in a hotel before leaving... I wouldn't worry, if you already entered Slovenia and Italy showing your ID nothing should have changed and the Pixies incident should remain isolated... did you ask why they wanted to see the ticket? Anyway I'm just of the opinion that you just met curious border officers, there shouldn't be a problem, but if you're still worried just ask at a travel agency or a police station... At the moment the only planned meeting is my proposal: 20.30 on the right of the stage. Should anyone arrive late (including myself) let's say we'll do our best to come back to the meeting point every 15 minutes until 808 State begin. Anyway we should be in a typical Vikings position, which is, if I'm not wrong, a few rows back from the front of the stage (4 or 5 rows?) on the side of Hooky, that's where you'll find the most of us, even during the gig... BTW I just realised that they're playing the same day of Live 8, this is not a good thing since that event is taking place in Italy as well... These are extremely hot days, though bad weather is said to come for the weekend, anyway I wouldn't be surprised if there was just a small audience, I hope the band won't be too disappointed. It would have been better for them to play at a proper festival with other bands bringing fans who might like them, like Pixies last year when they supported The Cure. The most of the people were there for The Cure, but the most of The Cure fans loved the Pixies so there was a huge audience with a great response to the Pixies. 808 State will bring 100 people at most, just the DJs who know them... It's all on New Order's shoulders, I hope that the fact it's a free event and they're the former Joy Division will help...

Unfortunately, appears that I'll have to travel alone, but I'll bring my books along and do some studying on the train, and I have no problem with sleeping on trains (I really like trains, as a matter of fact). I'm not worried about the trip to Turin, but according to my timetables I'll have to book a night in hotel on my way back in Venice. It's OK, I'm actually glad that I'll have enough time to sightsee both Turin and Venice. Do let me know if there's any sort of a meeting in the city in the afternoon before the concert. Is there any chance of the gig being, well, not sold out, because there are no tickets on sale, but, say filled up ? It might be a good thing that Live8 is on the same day-it'll keep neutrals off, only true fans will be in Turin I guess.

*Alright but be careful... I know how it is, my sister travels alone for work rather often... and we're worried, and we're right to be since she got robbed a couple of times... ;)

*Yeah, that's cool. Turin sucks, just spend the most of the time in Venice.

Do let me know if there's any sort of a meeting in the city in the afternoon before the concert.

*This is MY LAST MESSAGE BEFORE LEAVING. Gotta wake up in 4 hours, better get some sleep. We'll be on a short holiday, including Turin of course. I have Alex's number and he's got mine, so we should get in touch. Apart from this, I've written all I know before: just try to be at the right of the stage at 20.30... look at the stage, find its front right corner, and just go there...

Is there any chance of the gig being, well, not sold out, because there are no tickets on sale, but, say filled up ?

*As I said I'm actually afraid of a too small audience, though the band frustrated by the disappointment could lead to a funny performance, in a fucked up way (just like in some early 80s gigs)... ;)

It might be a good thing that Live8 is on the same day-it'll keep neutrals off, only true fans will be in Turin I guess.

*Which means an even smaller audience. The only hope are the Joy Division fans, far more than the New Order fans... the only problem is the most of them don't like the most commercial stuff by New Order, I can hear a couple of boos during Jetstream and I hope to see Al Jarvis leading the Vikings to kick da shit outta da stoopid goths! Just a dream I know ;) SEE YOU IN TURIN On this forum, after July 8th :hi:

Leaving tomorrow morning (a weird person at the railway counter claimed he was unable to sell me the ticket via Bologna ?), will have to spend a night in hotel, but at least I won't be alone on train throughout the night. And the whole day to see Turin. I'll mostly be wearing a green neworderonline.com t-shirt, feel free to contact me if you see me on the street.

Welcome to another installment of Jul's guide to Turin. Arrived yesterday evening, my train shoud have been 3 hours late but the earlier Venezia-Torino train was so late that I'd caught that one instead, so I was just half an hour late, but that actually means that I'd oficially left Venice before I'd arrived, so I'd created a time-space paradox and the universe will explode. Had minor problems at the border, was checked out by the border guard (who didn't speak englisk but spoke a universal language of most of the countries of the former country) and had to tell how much money (KOLKO PARA ?) I've got and how long I'm staying. Found out that I still speak basic Italian from my shopping in Trieste days. There doesn't seem to be much info and/ or intrest about the festival, noone at the hotel I'm staying at could tell me anything about it (but they coldn' tell me where a money exchange office is either), fortunately I have MTV Italia in my room and they did briefly announce it in the news (a snippet after whole news on Live8). Also showed some footage of a woman playing yesterday, the place seemed to be packed, so I'll try to arrive around 18.30 or 19 at the latest. The only New Order t-shirt I've seen thus far is mine. And the internet at the railway station is crap (but you do get to listen to wonderful oriental music. No, now someone in another booth is playin some rather pretty classical stuff), you can't open more than one window at a time ?! And can only pay for an hour or half an hour. Off to sightsee now.

Julijana, the very same thing happened to me at the Heathrow Airport, if you skip "koliko para" part, of course, but they did ask me that actually. :D Routine thing, I guess. There were 2 queues there actually. One for the UK and EU countries and the other one for the rest of the world, haha! Anyways, enjoy Italy and have a great time at the gig! :thumb:

Reminds me how stupid I can be sometimes. When I left for Chicago and New York, I went through the US customs (which are located in the Montreal airport) and when I was asked where I would stay while in Chicago and New York, I looked pretty stupid because I didn't have Kamar's girlfriend address and neither Frank Smarra's address...

Kind of look suspicious when you are going to visit the US and stay at some place you don't even know the name of the person there, or the address...

Lucky for me, he let me go... :eek3:

I'll try and upload some half-decent pictures here (if I can find any, that is!)...

Back in England after not much sleep - after the festival, went down to see Tony Wilson, Shaun Ryder and Hooky do DJ sets at the Giancarlo club... Got back to the hotel between 4:30am and 5:00am... :)

When Barney announced Everythings Gone Green I didnt believe what Ive just heard. It really made the evening special (and also the inclusion of my favourite Your Silent Face) although it was near to be ruined be some idiots who moshed all the time. Is this, like, traditional in Italy to jump around and push other people? Guess next time I'll head somewhere else to catch a NO show.

Still, it was great. Also I catched a smile from Stephen when they drove by us after the show.

But: only one song from Get Ready? only two songs from Sirens Call?

I know most people wont agree with me, but I really would've appreciated to hear some diversions instead of playing all the classics (which is good too, its just that I loved the last two records).

Er, I think the moshers were probably the German Order and some of our English contingent!

I suggest you head over to the US to perhaps catch New Order live then, cos they don't 'mosh' over there for the band. Just a thought. Still, you're only 21 so lots to learn yet about New Order, eh?

Absolutely fcuking brilliant night last night. EGG was the icing on a superb show. Good to see everyone again, and to meet some new people (notably Mr & Mrs Milky and Mr & Mrs Southampton Order) and thought the band were just about the best I've seen them this year. Just a bit fuct off that my legs have been shredded by the local mozzies! Still, they do like a bit of sweet meat!

Funny how your Europeans love their Joy Division too, but still ain't clued up on New Order. LWTUA grew the biggest chant/mosh of the night, then Temptation stopped 'em dead in their tracks straight after. Most bizarre. Good also to see Mr Wilson introduce the band too. And talk utter bollocks in doing so.

Saw a girl in a green neworderonline t-shirt wander past early on. But then didn't see her for the gig itself. Presume she posts/lurks here?!

It was me ! I was in the second row, and actually dissapointed by too little jumping. I was actualy training at young punk gigs for this. But I was right in front of Bernard, that made up for it. I was very dissapointed noone from NOOL contacted me, I've said I'll be wearing the t-shirt, but instead I met Andrea, Luca, Maco, the girls, also several people whose names I've forgotten, and I hung out with them and we were soon best friends, of course Andrea is from Milan and I went to the same gaculty with Zvone Boban, so we soon found a common ground. By 20.30 we were having such a good time that I didn't want to leave them and go to the NOOL meeting place. Fantastic gig. I'll post more when I return to Zagreb, now I've ended up in Venice overnight by a mixup on trenitalia, so I have to find a hotel. Can anyone recomend any ? Did I miss anything special ? Meetup with the band, drinking the night away with Hooky ? I've got some pictures, I'll develop them and scan them and send to someone to post them here, I'm not too god at it, it'll probabltùy be on tuesday.

Cheers,

Jul.

last NO show i went to was in California for Area 1, and this gig was 10 times better. Barney was rather chipper, and the whole band were in high spirits. barney and hooky joked about who was supposed to start LWTUA. they sounded great, and i think that plil adds a lot to the band (much more than billy corgan did).

i noticed a little moshing, but it was nothing huge. in general, the crowd was dead, and only showed a little life during the JD songs.

i was happy to hear remixes of true faith (pefecto i think) and blue monday (cant get you out of my head). EGG was funktastic. when barney announced it, he said that he forgot how to play it because it had been so long since he played it.

btw, 808 sounded better than i expected, but no spanish heart as i hoped. no liverpool flag so i didnt see anyone from the website, but i met some guys from poland and we had a great time. wonderful show.:music:

Well, we do it, but New Order's not really the type of music people do this do over here...

Trash dancing (as it's called here) is usually for heavy metal & related bands ;)

I remember doing it in clubs all over Nirvana and Metallica... but you get bored of bumping into people after a while... ;)

Hi mates, just a short post while I'm still on holiday. More to come later. I'm glad I have met everyone, inlcuding Al Jarvis so I can place the 2005 badge next to the Vikings 2002 at the next gig, and the legendary Alex Staszko who brought two Gabrielles Wish bootlegs making me happy like going home for Christmas. ;) Cheers also to Nick King and the others, I just gotta apologise cos my English conversation is becoming similar to Barney's memory for lyrics, you get the picture. Was worried for Juliana cos I didn't see her but I think everything went fine for her. Fan of the night award goes to Marco's son, 13 years and jumping and singing along like a longtime hardcore fan, knew every single fookin word! :thumb: Got some nice pics and will make a web page as soon as I'm back. Great show, of course also because of EGG. Enjoyed 808 State a lot too, and so the audience, good given they're almost totally unknown. Nice to see that not only the Joy Division songs got a great audience response as expected, but also New Order tracks like BLT and even newer stuff like Krafty. Many more people than the expected, the place was almost packed and the vibe was good, this triumph is a revenge on the stupid goths who were turning to Sisters Of Mercy saying New Order had sold out when they started doing electronic stuff. Where are fooking Mission now? Eh? New Order are still a legend and those dance tracks are favourite classics. Amazing to see many teenagers dancing as if they were at a Fatboy Slim gig. New Order fans have a new generation, people born at the time of World In Motion... Nice aftershow with Shaun, Tony AND Hooky spinning records. Just met briefly Hooky, he was in a good mood and so was even Sarge... More when I'm back, gotta go now. Cheers!

PS: last minute edit: Alex says they played Warsaw at the soundcheck. Not the roadies, the fookin band! Apparently it's just Barney doesn't want to play it, but I guess Hooky would be more than happy to do it, so someone convince them, it would be great if they really did that at gigs, the audience would go crazy....

Not a great mosh fan meself either - I'm more into having a wee Bez like jig, or a Barney inspired run on the spot type booty shuffle. Used to mosh when seeing Metallica way back when, but not really into bouncy aggression with strangers nowadays.

Maybe they should have a 'mosher's only' zone - they had a 'industry whores' zone at Live 8, so 'owt's possible... (although it should be a little fenced (electrified perchance?) area somewhere around the mid centre of stage - it shouldn't take over the whole of the front row as us more sedate types need space as well...)

:D

It's easy for you to say that when all you need is your passport and money. The problem is visa, my friend. I've only got the UK Tourist Visa, valid till October (meaning I'll go back there again till October ;) ) and Italian Visa is very hard to get over here.

Heading to America? I dont know if that would be a good idea. Too expensive, too many to organise. Torino was just 8 hours by train, and we didnt even got a hotel, we just stayed over at this beautiful park.

I noticed that too and was really confused by that fact. I saw lots of JD-tshirts, but only one NO-shirt. Also there were many goths attending.

Well, covered most of the "moshers = idiots" topic, it was a really great concert afterall. I was so glad I did it, even though I almost fell asleep after staying the night over whilst waiting for our train. I just hope NO will be doing another tour sometime soon and perhaps come to Austria.

Thanks to the people who posted photos, btw.

If you keep away from them, what's the problem?

It would be okay if they would mosh around in their own area, but they dont. They keep disturbing other people. I dont understand why it is necessary to jump and push other people to have fun.

Moshin's OK, so long as they respect non-Mosher's space (in a liberal, spliff smoking, social worker kind of way).

jtr, how many times have you seen New Order? At 21, I should imagine it's not many. Moshers traditionally are closest to the stage. If you're stood right up front at a New Order gig, what do you expect? Sounds like you were ruining the night for other people, rather than they ruin it for you. If you want to stand like a statue at a New Order concert then why do you bother?

I know exactly what Maya's talking about, there were three people from Serbia on the train with me, and two girls actually had to count their money in frount the carabigneri, and a man had to show all of his papers after he said he was visiting his daughter. I think I only had problems because I was traveling just with my ID. If there is any Budapest Order, please try to convince someone to get New Order for Pepsi Sziget for next album, that'll suit most of the eastern fans best, and it's also a realistic option (I've given up hope of Zagreb a long time ago). Maya, you'll get some pictures soon - pics of the band aren't very good, but some of my private ones are great. Still found great company. Will write a full review soon, together with Jul's Guide on How to Get Lost in a Foregin Country (but I did get asked out by a friendly waiter in Venice).

I'd like to agree with that. I made it to the second row (I think I'd beaten up a metrosexual and several real men in the process), and in front of me there were two blokes, Italian, quite tough, and they were just standing still there and talking ! I couldn' push through them, and every now and then they were making weird bottom movenents to get the crowd (predominately me) off their backs. I've made a four-day trip alone, rode on the train for 13 hours and got stuck in Venice on the way back (but I'm not sorry, it's beautiful), so if you're not a real fan just don't go to the front row, it's as simple as that ! I don't use up space in the front at gigs where i only like a band.

Is there a recording of the gig anywhere ? It was my first. I'd really like to keep it forever. I'll add a link for some photos later, there seems to be a technical problem now. OK, here's the link now, if I've suceeded:

Photos

Sorry for the fact that they're so bad, I went after the advice to buy disposables...good for turist pictures, but useless at a gig. But I feel I have to contribute something to the site, however useless. I've added a picture of Tony Wilson, because noone else did, and to prove I've really been stuck in Venice a picture of Plaza San Marco including a man with a pidgeon on his head.

jtr, how many times have you seen New Order? At 21, I should imagine it's not many. Moshers traditionally are closest to the stage. If you're stood right up front at a New Order gig, what do you expect? Sounds like you were ruining the night for other people, rather than they ruin it for you. If you want to stand like a statue at a New Order concert then why do you bother?

You dont want to understand me, right? I stood up front because I wanted to actually see something (I tend to always stand up front at concerts). And I didnt stand like a statue, I danced a lot, but for myself, without bothering & disturbing other people. As I said, a New Order gig is not a punk concert and therefore moshing is, at least in my view, inappropriate. There should really be some kind of moshing-only areas.

I actually thought there was too little moshing...I had real physical preparations, I'm not joking, at the university open air I got kneed in my thigh muscle, it was a considerably painful experience, but I thought "It's all for a good cause ! New Order finally !".

You are sooooo wrong! The Orders ARE fucking punk when on stage. I tend not to push other people cause I get so scared of the crowd sometimes but I don't mind it, in fact, I like it a lot!!!!

jtr wrote: I danced a lot, but for myself, without bothering & disturbing other people.

If you feel disturbed & bothered by other people, and prefer to dance for yourself, why don't you just stick to the live DVDs, and dance in your living room? Going to a gig IMHO involves inevitably that you get into physical contact with other people, and you might even get a bit sweaty. If you can't stand that, maybe live gigs are not the real thing for you?

Can you please reiterate to us just how many New Order concerts you've attended previously and what the atmosphere was like at those? You're new to all this, aren't you?

And why shouldn't people mosh at New Order concerts? What 'punk' song has got the guts of Crystal, Tranmission or Temptation? Why should people not want to ruck to such numbers? I always have, in the main, although Italy was a different affair because I was with my Mrs and most of our contingent were spread far and wide and, if I'm being honest, I thought the atmosphere was just rather pleasant and 'nice', bordering on tame, so didn't warrant such frivolities. Wasn't a night for a mosh, I wouldn't have said. Although I did jump around like a good 'un when they played EGG.

You ought to get out more, see a bit more of the world. Perhaps travel to see New Order in my country, if they ever play here again, and see how it's done properly! :thumb:

Well, I guess it's something some people like, others don't...

I must say since there aren't too many outdoor gigs in Montreal, most being indoor with reserved seats, with sometimes a general admission section in front of the stage you can never get tickets for, usually it's standing in front of your seat and enjoying the ride.

And having an injured knee keeping me from being up for so long (don't ask me why I had no trouble for both New Order shows.. it's almost a miracle, but I had a hard time when it was the DJ set later in the night)

Saying we should watch a DVD because we don't like to have "physical" gigs it's a bit too far, c'mon, it's not the same thing... personally I don't dance too much, so going to a gig is not about dancing, but seeing the band and listening to it mostly and having a good time while doing so.

I guess it's up to everybody, but I don't fear going into a mosh pit, except Al Jarvis is taller than me though :eek3:

Hi, just want to thank the city of Turin one more time to have picked Manchester this year as theme for the Traffic making real a dream which is bringin the new order back to italy after a pair of decades maybe more I don't know ehe.. The gig was literally superb, I couldn't keep still because of the groove they pulled out!Absolutely wicked and dancy performance!! I reckon it is an historic event for us. Plus I had also a quick and funny sketch with shaun ryder around 5am @ murazzi del po, I couldn't ask more than this. Ace! 8)

Joy Division were definitely post-punk, therefore any Joy Division song (and these were the ones that people at the Turin gig moshed at) are fair game...

If you don't want to get in the way of people moshing, stand/dance/watch nearer the back, which is where I was - about halfway between the stage and the rig... Simple...

I don't mind a bit of moshing here and then, but prefer not to be barged around too much, hence why I don't watch near the front.

Speaking of moshing, there was quite a bit at that DJ set of Hooky's (especially during the punk-flavoured songs)! :thumb:

Could you stop being pretentious?

~

@Ruined In A Day: I dont get you people. Concerts are about pushing each other? I go to concerts because I want to enjoy the music, together with the band, the audience and I dont want stupid fights going on in some moshing area. Ive been to some heavy energetic gigs were you could totally freak out and give yourself in to the night - without hurting other people. Geez, you really think that I cant stand being around other people? Ive got no problem with a bit contact or getting sweaty (as I said: I *like* to dance, I just dont have to make bruises whilst doing so). Moshing isnt mine and I cant see why you guys seem to want to convince me thats its either NO concerts with moshing or sitting at home listening to records. Perhaps some of you should attend some other concerts, where people actually act kinda civilized.

Guess you guys will never agree, so better stop arguing before calling yourselves names eh? :skeptic:

I mean, I don't agree with them necessarly, I don't see New Order enough to want to miss the show because I broke my leg in the middle of it, but if they like it :evil4:

j/k ;)

Actually, I should try that once... hehe.

How the hell is that pretentious? I'm assuming that this was your first New order concert? Or, at least, one of your first, given your age, and yet you've come on here complaining about moshers (of which there were hardly ANY in Turin, if I'm being truthful) whereas at many New order gigs moshers are quite the norm. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, as the saying goes. Who's the pretentious one now?

@Al: pretentious is that youre assuming that Ive havent attended many concerts and havent been around much and cant stand moshing because Im so "young". Yes, I might be 21, but still youve got no idea how many trips and concerts I did.

Again: I *can* stand the heat, I just dont want to get jumped into all the time when I try to enjoy a concert.

And Im gonna stop now. This is leading nowhere. Lets just not worry about that anymore. Maybe well see each other someday at a concert and I can make my point clearer than on the net.

Well, when I was 21 I'd seen New Order over a dozen times and in those days they were mosh-tastic! But that was a long time ago.

I really doubt you've seen New Order that many times at your age?

May I suggest on behalf of all the other moshers both young, old, male and female that if you want to enjoy the concert without getting "knocked about" stand at the back and buy the concert on DVD when it is available. That way we would all be happy and it saves all this crap you are spouting. We have all been moshing for at least 15 years and do not want to give it up now. Ta very much!

Please consider the following.

I went to see Oasis at the Rose Bowl Southampton last night, I has previously seen them about 10 years ago at knebworth, earls court and Glato.

Last night was my worst gig crowd experiance ever where as New Order in Turin was one of my best.

I witnessed 4 punch ups that included blood being drawn. I had a ciggerete stubbed out in on my and I got covered in liquid that was thrown through the crowd, some of it was beer some was Piss.

A bloke next to me urinated on the floor and I only notiiced when my sock was getting damped.

When I said something he threatend to smash my face in

The closest I got to the stage was about 100m and I was getting pushed and knocked around all the time.

Even Noel told the Chavs who were there just for fight to F off outside.

Through out the gig there was a general atmosphere of agro and violence.

There were 15 arrests and 87 people evicted from the site.

This is a complete contrast to the Turin where my wife and I were practically adopted by some locals despite us not speaking a word of italien.

They even gave us a lift across town to THE hOOKY/rYDER/wILSON dJ SET,

I agee with AJ the moshing was minimal. I was at the frontin Turin and thought it was a generally good vibe.

Is there any chance we can move on from the moshing debate and concentrate on what a fantastic gig this was. And it WAS FREE.

I payed £45 to be scared out of mind with 33,000 other people to see Oasis compared to nothing to See No in front of a relatively tiny crowd.

Hi all!

Torino was without doubt an amazing concert event. When me and me mates entered the ground..(no body search, no ticket needed...just walk in. Great!) we were first worried because just a few hundred people were gathered around the stage. But once 808 hit the stage the ground filled up quickly. We were about in the 20th row from the stage some people moshing about a little bit. I didnt care about it at all, just enjoyed 808 State and the mighty Order! Hooky giving the posing performance of his life.. Sounds crystal clear, Italians singing along, warm weather, cold beer.. How could anyone ask for more? I was extremely happy after the 2 gigs.

After some beers to cool down we went back by public bus (free again of course) to the Murazzi Area where thousands of people were hanging about drinking beers at open air clubs etc. "The Beach" club with Da Silva/G. Park Djing were charging Euro 13 so we decided to head first to Giancarlo Club (for free again of course). Did we regret this? You bet we didnt! AHWilson war dropping some postpunk CDs while we were enjoying a few beers on the patio when A Guy called Geralds "Voodoo Ray" was dropped...from then on no one could stop us from hitting the dance floor. Shaun Ryder was a sorry sight..but he let his "assistant" drop some cool Ryder-related tunes and to some Shaun tried to sing along to them..if he could remember the words!

Out of nowhere Hooky appeared on the balcony where he made his presence very much known by starring at the crowd and hype them up. It didnt take him long to take over DJ duties and dropped among other "Transmission" & "LWTUA" where everyone in the club joined along in singing the chorus and some moshed. Fuckin incredible! Also some Killers tracks proved very popular with the italian massive. Amazing night! We left around 4.30...and heard "Atmosphere" while leaving... Does anyone know if this was the last track Hooky played???

Also was anyone at THE BEACH club? How was that??

Totally amazing weekend...to say the least!

Hello everybody :) ,

this is my very first post here  . I live in Italy (near Turin) and last saturday I went to the new order concert... What can I say? I really enjoyed it, it was simply amazing! I never saw new order live before, even if I listen to their music since I was very young...

I've finally made a web page with the full report of our magic day in Turin at the New Order concert including a gallery with pictures of Turin, New Order, 808 State, Italian fans, Al Jarvis and Alex Staszko! Here it is: NEW ORDER at the Turin Traffic Festival Wait until the thumbnails are loaded before closing the Yahoo! ad bar or the bastard will reappear... Of course any webmaster can link to this page and/or use any part of text or pics as they like.

Carlo and Bobbybob I'm happy you came to the concert though it's a pity we haven't met. Next time Manuel and I go to see New Order we should organize a sort of Vichinghi, the Italian branch of the Vikings, including Marco, the both of you and more... :thumb: Bob if you checked this thread your son could have met Matteo, the 13 years old son of Marco and they could have founded the junior branch of the Vikings! ;)

Hello Mick :) and thank you for the precious information, unfortunately I cannot display the site that you have created. I get the following error: "Sorry, this site is temporarily unavailable!" :(

As far as the Italian concert is concerned I did not know there would have been so many International fans…

Ciao Bob … ;)

The site is now available again. The problem is the allowed bandwidth for the transfert of the files making the site to the visitors on the free Geocities account is very low, and so 20 visits were enough to exceed it, being that there's about 1.5 MB of pictures linked on that page. And to think I've reduced their size to about 50 KB for the images and 15 for the thumbnails... Please let me know if the problem comes back often, I'll make a mirror page on another server...

If the site is down again, you can always read the text here:

And I have uploaded all the pictures on the concert's page.

I sent a mail to Mick so he can modify the page to his will...

 Thank you very much, Spotnick. I did just some small changes, linking to the gallery page in the Live section ( http://www.neworderonline.com/Live/Concert.aspx?ConcertID=687 ) and to my original page (if you don't mind, no problem if you do and remove this link) and numbering the pictures with captions. I have only one question: where can I access this page with the story ( http://www.neworderonline.com/Common/Topic.aspx?TopicID=78 )? I don't see it linked anywhere... should it be in the Stories section of the Community ( http://www.neworderonline.com/Story.aspx ) or linked as a review right on the page above ( http://www.neworderonline.com/Live/Concert.aspx?ConcertID=687 )? Anyway great job, I'm proud to see my text and pics on this site :thumb:

*Well, there was a stand in Piazza Solferino where you could get the free card for buses and museums, and the newspaper of Turin, which is also one of the biggest in Italy, dedicated the cover of their included leisure magazine to New Order.

noone at the hotel I'm staying at could tell me anything about it (but they coldn' tell me where a money exchange office is either)

*At the railway station! :) Just as you arrive, at the very centre. About the hotel it's weird, many people in our hotel were there for the festival, if not exactly for New Order... we had to wait to get our room because two techno freaks "slept" (maybe ;) ) until the afternoon after seeing Aphex Twin the night before, anyway on Saturday no room was left available. Very good hotel anyway, and not too expensive. We can recommend it if you ever need to stay in Turin again, just look for Antico Distretto in Corso Valdocco, near Piazza Statuto (a beautiful and quiet area). Only problem is their English knowledge is next to zero... they had to explain to a foreign couple a similar problem of ours and couldn't even tell them the room was not ready yet... they just kept on saying "Room... no... no room... after!" (luckily we were there to help)

, fortunately I have MTV Italia in my room and they did briefly announce it in the news (a snippet after whole news on Live8). Also showed some footage of a woman playing yesterday, the place seemed to be packed,

*Yeah, Carmen Consoli, who headlined the night before New Order, is very popular here (wouldn't be surprised if she got a bigger audience than our band). Classic singer/songwriter with a slight alternative attitude, but boring anyway.

so I'll try to arrive around 18.30 or 19 at the latest.

*We arrived just before 21.00 and unfortunately we haven't met (also since you haven't been on the right side, otherwise you'd have noticed "Manchester United" sash of the English fans). Anyway I've seen your nice pictures and I'm happy you had a good time.

jtr wrote: It really made the evening special (and also the inclusion of my favourite Your Silent Face) although it was near to be ruined be some idiots who moshed all the time. Is this, like, traditional in Italy to jump around and push other people?

*It's traditional at most gigs by New Order and other new wave bands. Don't forget the punk roots. Of course moshing doesn't happen only at new wave gigs, but at every grunge or metal gigs too, you just have to get some fast rhythm and an alternative audience. It's not really a problem for me, I've been used to it from many gigs over the years and mostly enjoy it. Also Matteo, only 13 years old and at his very first gig (what a debut! my first gig was the silly Doctor And The Medics! ) never complained, he just enjoyed the gig and jumped too... Most of all, moshing can be much much more violent that what you got in Turin. I remember the good days of the glorious Italian alternative scene in the mid 90s, with serious pogo, stage diving, crowd surfing, elbows in your face, girls fainting and everything... Turin was very, very moderate, though lively enough. Also it's obvious you haven't been at the New Order comeback in 1998 in Manchester, now that was moshing, I was first row and came out with my chest hurting, after having spent the gig jumping without moving my legs, simply dragged by the movement of the crowd. It was still one of the best experiences in my whole life. If you don't like moshing you can just stay like 10 or 15 rows back, or on the sides, that should be safe enough. I've never seen a gig where all the audience is moshing (the closest thing to that was 50,000 fans jumping together to World In Motion at Reading 98), usually you choose to stay in an area where people are moshing, or you can choose to stay in more quiet areas, where you can still have a good sight and not be touched by anyone. I thought I've seen you with the English mates, though I'm sorry we never talked. I understood you were "from Germany" but not you were on the forum...

only two songs from Sirens Call?

*Yeah, I thought that was a bit poor promotion too, but it's becoming increasingly difficult for them to make a balanced set list, with 28 years of history behind them. Also it seems many just knew the classics as almost nobody recognized Sirens... Anyway I'd have tried to keep the new wonderful live version of Run Wild and Hey Now What You Doin at least. I think Italian fans would have loved HNWYD, there's plenty of Smiths fans here and Phil does a great Marr impression in that song...

*I don't agree, I was pleasantly surprised by the good reaction to songs like Bizarre Love Triangle, which when they were released 20 years ago were being dismissed as chart pop trash by the goth snobs. The only calm moments were with songs like Love Vigilantes and WFTSC which are obviously less known to a general audience like that. Probably the most of them just have Substance and the Joy Division albums. Still, it was a great audience, for being Italy. I know Bernard always says it, but I think he was sincerly happy and couldn't expect better after 19 years away...

i was happy to hear remixes of true faith (pefecto i think) and blue monday (cant get you out of my head).

*Now there was also a keyboard in Blue Monday, I'm sure they took it from a Factory band, but I'm not sure if it was Durutti Column, The Wake or anyone else. Any ideas? Anyone can post the MP3 of Blue Monday, so maybe someone can recognize that keyboard? I'm sure I have the record from which is taken, but who knows which is the one... It would also be great to get the whole gig! :D

btw, 808 sounded better than i expected, but no spanish heart as i hoped.

*Yeah, I mean, Barney was just backstage, they could have tried... just like when he didn't This Time I'm Not Wrong with Doves (formerly Sub Sub) when they supported New Order... missed chances...

no liverpool flag so i didnt see anyone from the website, but i met some guys from poland and we had a great time.

*There was a Man Utd sash though! ;) I guess you live in Europe now and didn't come from America just for the gig?

Good to see you, Mick - we briefly met again at Giancarlo - the Swiss Order stayed until just after 4 in the morning - DJ sets from Wilson/Ryder/Hooky were great, although not that much room to dance or get another beer! :D

Will attempt to write a review and post some pictures shortly - got to do the same for the 808 site by the end of the week, although the current heatwave in the UK means I can't really be bothered at the moment! :)

Yup, very small and very hot...

Wasn't initially going to stay, as Wilson was playing some bizarre songs (!), but went back in when he started playing Everything's Gone Green and Voodoo Ray!

Ryder then started playing some Happy Mondays/Black Grape tracks, and started singing over the top of them (surprised he could remember the words! :evil4: )... And then Hooky, who appeared just as Temptation was playing (he was messing with the EQ and volume levels)!!

Best part was Love Will Tear Us Apart, where he would drop the volume whilst the crowd sang the chorus, and would then bring the song back in to see if we synchronised! :)

Me too !

The magazine with blurred picture on the front page was TorinoSette, apparently a weekly; I read it at my hotel just before I went to the gig, but couldn't buy it anywhere on Sunday anymore. I even tried to buy it off the hotel clerk. There were articles about NO, picture from Move '02, articles about Factory and the Mondays, all sorts of stuff. It seemed well written, but my Italian is very basic. Unfortunately I discovered it too late.

There was only one poster advocating the festival in the very centre of Turin. There was also a panel in front of the smaller railway station, but not in front of the main one. And the staff in my hotel didn't know anything about a festival - they thought that I was there for a jazz festival that went on roughly at the same time as well. Also nothing on MTV Italia - only 808 State were advertised in the gigs section ! But New Order did get a brief mention at the end of the news. Of course, Live8 didn't help.

It's a pity we haven't met, I was with three other fans from Rome... Very interested in the pics, thanks.

Glad you appreciate. I was quite close to the stage, but I'm not a good photographer.
