Just heard from someone that the "Assasins" will be the opening band for New Order during their show at the Aragon Ballroom.
Couldn't find it discussed anywhere else, so if I am posting erroneous information...you may correct me.

The Killers? 
Well, another no-name band... I wish they could have better support than Assasins and Dragonettes... gee, even a Community tribute party sounds better than that!!
if they are looking for an upbeat local band, this band kicks ass. they should be signed to a major label but they're not. the dirty things.
everyone should download the free mp3s and give em a listen.
Has anyone found anything on these opening bands???? I mean seriously, I cannot find a thing!!! Is it possible, albeit remote, that these names are covers for other bands, eh, Nic? What is going on here???

And you DO manage to get in front that way most of the time?
I told you, I'm not used to General Admission gigs... I've always been told that at those gigs, you need to be there hours before the actual show to have a good spot.
Seems to me there's gonna be a lot of elbow room at the venue bar and a few disgruntled locals when the brits still manage to muscle their way down to the front. What is this obsession with support bands?
I was thinking the same thing about these being fake names for like the ravonettes and killers. but both are on tour. but it's pretty odd that i couldn't find anything about either band anywhere online.
and as far as getting a good spot... i've been to a ton of GA shows and usually directly after the opening band ends, the crowd kinda loosens up and you can get yourself down close to the stage. not right against the stage or anything but close enough.

Of course. English people have common sense. If you're female or if you're under 6ft tall you don't generally go within 200ft of New Order on stage. Check out the likes of Brixton 87 on DVD and surf those crowd scenes. Or check any one of a number of bootleg videos.
But then, having seen 'Air Bass Man' chucked out at the Melbourne BDO in front of 50,000(?) people for shouting 'Temptation' between tracks and doing a v.bad Hooky impression I fully understand that foreign New Order audiences aren't as - have shall I put this? - 'aggressive' as their English counterparts, which is a shame because you're missing out on the thrill of what it is to see New Order live.
I'd dread to think what some of our continental viewers might think if they'd got trapped near the front at the likes of Move in 2002, which was probably about as good as it got.
Actually, check out the 316 DVD. There's no such thing as 'getting a good spot' for those gigs - you just go where the crowds take you.

Presumably it's Dragonette on New York, as ticketmaster is advertising 'New Order / Dragonette' tickets. Or is that some secret code I've unwittingly misread.

Can't recall the last time I went to a gig and not in general admission. Many fans in England, if they couldn't get GA, wouldn't bother going or would revert to ebay/touts [scalpers]. The atmos in seated areas tends to be a bit sedate and doesn't provide the adrenalin rush which being down the front for NO is hard to match.
A few cultural differences comin up !

the difference is, sitting upstairs at somewher like Brixton Acad is like watching what's going on - being downstairs is being part of what's going on...similar sort of rush to another very Engerlish pastime - come on you irons!
Sounds as though some of the US contingent would've enjoyed the RFH - well the first couple of numbers anyway! Surreal to sit through EGG until Barney asked why we all didn't stand up? - not what the RFH normally expect from the artists.

Yeah, well put. NO have always enjoyed the same tribal following that clubs get, it was like everybody took their terrace mind-set straight into the gig. Well, pre-Taylor Report terrace culture anyways. The Hammers haven't changed mind, they even named one of their top boozers 'The Village' ;).
Macclesfield kicked off cos of rival mobs, I wouldn't expect to see that these days. What an intro to NO live !We're all bit older and slower now mind.
From the very first gig I went to aged 14 I always considered getting seven shades of shit knocked out of me 'down the front' a central part of the experience. Lame crowd = lame gig: it's as simple as that!
Get down the front AJ and JG and cause some mayhem;)
I always used to try and get down the front..(rh side)
The only time I wimped out was on the fac51 double header. Watched the 1st set in the pit and in pain...Went for some liquid refreshment then we wimped out and watched the 2nd set from the comfort of the balcony...Not as much fun but a cracking view..( and we were knackered )

looks like the assasins are a real band after all. they're playing with one of my favorite local bands called the dirty things on may 20th. it would be awesome to see dirty things open for new order. but lucky for them, they're playing at the official gang of four after party in NYC.

i don't know who Dragonettes are but i know that Assassins (who support at the aragon ballroom show on may 3rd) come from chicago.they were signed to arista records and recorded a full length with the one and only stephen hague.they have a website WWW.ASSASSINS.COM and you can listen to two tracks on their MYSPACE site... WWW.MYSPACE/ASSASSINS p.s.i heard that they got the support because n.o. liked the assassins record

UGH! I hate GA. I saw NO at Reading 98 and I hated that whole festival atmosphere. I don't wanna sit on the ground. People were rude as hell, but it may have been the drink and being outside for days on end in AUGUST.
I went to V 2000 and it was only slightly better because I got press passes and could use the facilities behind the big gate. They were slightly cleaner. But I still couldn't sit for days. Why couldn't you bring in a lawn chair or something? I don't know...
I'm much too used to creature comforts to pitch a tent and shower with strangers.
I don't need to be at the stage for NO. Peter Hook won't marry me, so there's no need for me to be in his face. ;) I'm gonna find a spot behind the sound board and watch from there.
