Best live version of a Joy Division song?

None. Sorry, I'm a fundemantalist regarding this question. The best live version of a JD-song is played by JD.

Id have Isolation, even Heart & Soul any day, more variety and 'fook me - i never expected that' than Love will, Atmos, S L Control etc.. Why they only played those through 98' really annoys me

ok, then. if it's down to only these four from the past tour it would have to be transmission. it's the best for barney's voice, really.

On this tour its Transmission. Can't stick the 'come on(s)' in LWTUA or the whoos in Atmosphere. I always think the synth sounds shit on Atmosphere - its too harsh.

I have to agree.

I love LWTUA but it's not so good with Barney singing he always misses some pat of the lyric (even with the lyric in the TFT screen)

Transmission is the best, Barney knows quite well the lyric and it sounds great with his voice tone (not as good as Ian)

Decades has far as I know it was played only once back in 1985, I've heard the recording and it is awesome.

Lots of people voting for "Heart and Soul", and I agree it sounded fantastic when they played it, but the trouble when you're in the crowd is you don't know what to do when they play it: it's my fave JD tune, but it just kind of broods.....what are you supposed to do - stand there and brood along with it???? LWTUA is a great singalong, and all the purists who whinge about the innapropriate and irreverential exuberance with which it's played can, frankly, go jump in the fucking river: they've transformed it from a (perceived) suicide note to a communal celebration and it's wonderful. "Transmission" is pogo-tastic, too, and even though I've heard "Atmosphere" live enough now, thanks, I'm with Shug on the Reading '98 performance. My then-fiancee was throwing a wobbler 'cos the crowd was so boisterous and she was getting knocked about - she wanted to move away from the front; I was inevitably reluctant; just as I was about to give in they started "Atmosphere": a quick "sorry, love" and I was off further into the throng. Still my favourite gig ever.

We split up about two months later.

The best live version of Love Will Tear Us Apart was done by a band called The Suicidal Snails, at Herne Bay plaza in 1994. Awesome!

The BBC Version of "She's Lost Control." I know there are two versions of that song on the CD but, its the last one. The one before Ian and Steven are interviewed. The reason because its my favorite is, the intensity of the way that song is played. Especially when Ian lets out a couple of screams. They use to have the video of that performance on this web-site, but I guess they took it off. I wish everyone could see how well that song was played. Laters.

Decades at Royal Festival Hall 1984. It was my 21st birthday that day, and I kid myself they played it for me....(it was more likely for the miners). I'm surprised how rarely they've played it since.
