What is the capital mark up like these days? Like I said somewhere above, last time we looked into doig some shows in London it scared the hell out of us, would have cost a fortune for venue, PA hire, beds, the lot. Then again, maybe that's only the town centre, which is why i've been thinking somewhere NEAR london but not in it.

(actually it's all a big scam, I'm waiting from someone to suggest somewhere out by Woking direction so I can do NOOL day and my War of the Worlds walk (following the martians up the thames valley from Weybridge) all at once :D )

I think someone mentioned doing it in an out of season holiday camp, that would be excellent, we could make a weekend of it :)

We gotta get something cooking at least to give us an idea of what we're up against.

I can do all the technical organisation from here. I just need told where we're doing it, what they have there, and who's providing music. Stage plans would be handy if any of our beloved tribute bands are coming (that's a little drawing of where y'all stand and what shit you have/monitors you want).

I can do equipment booking and the like by phone. If we end up with 2 or 3 bands plus a coupla DJ's, it'll give me something to do while you buggers play 5-a-side.

How many other non footballers will be attending....you've just been hired as sound crew (and stand in musicians for soundchecking too). I accept females too so no simpering "oooh i'm a girl" chicks.

I know it's several months away but the more we sort out early the more chance we have of fixing problems.

Well if you have money to make it to manc aid, when's the earliest you can have anything saved up again? I doubt NO will be coming out to play much before late spring/early summer (if recent years are anything to go by).

that's sort of why I'm thinking logistics this far in advance. If we have a broad idea of the cost of a venue, the cost of any gear we need, and how much accomodation will be, then we'll be able to work out things like whether or not it'll be cheap enough for a couple of the members to underwrite and we sell tickets to recoup that, OR whether it'll be so expensive that we'll need to take deposits, from everyone beforehand. I don't really want anything to do with sorting money out (never give the cashbox to the guy on the dole:) ), bands ( if we have any) give me riders, I phone people, I get an estimate :) But I've organised events before (tho not an almighty pyjama party for 100 or so New Order maniacs). The trickiest bit to sort out will be accomodation. we could leave it up to people to find themselves somewher near the pissup, but it would be nice, as has been discussed to be able to do it "in house".

The Ideal situation in my view, please feel free to point out I'm mental if you so reason. An out of season holiday camp/convention centre type thing. Somewhere with a bar big enough to put music on, an open space to play 5-a-side for all you nutters (I'm assuming that if an actual pitch is not available, that jumpers for goalposts would do), and accomodation either on site or tied in nearby. A holiday camp might be affordable, i dunno....but aren;t conference centre places fucking expensive as they exist purely to fleece managment scum?

And organised to co-incide with a New Order gig. while this was not originally in the plan, for the likes of our lady of Serbia here, it makes sense, to terminate multiple avians with a single projectile. the perfect solution would be a NO gig on a saturday...we could arrive friday afternoon, do most of our NOOL hanging out on Friday night, do our bands and stuff. then Saturday could be (more?) 5 a side and drinking, followed by NO, we'd HAVE somewhere for the NOOL afterparty (and we can invite the band who wont come out of fear :) ), then sunday is hangovers, coffee and homeward bound in the evening.

the second best option would be a town or area that has the 3 essentials (music venue, sports venue and beds) in proximity and within budget, and with it being a few days either side of NO gig, so that people can stay on if they are from far flung shores (and I'm sure some of the UK noolers could take someone on the sofa for a day or two if long hotel or hostel stays are prohibitively pricey.)

the only thing about trying to arrange it round NO, (apart from it being contrary to the stated purpose ouf the event, which was a chance for us to all hang out with the inconvenience of having to fuck off to see NO at some point), is that they aren't big on advance notice these days. Look at the Apollo and Brixton, that was what 3 and a half weeks notice? And evet of this nature can't be set up quickly in such a way thatit'll work for everyone, getting it right for all of us from all over, could take time.

Depending on where and when I can help out with some kit / engineering / donkey work. I have an 18 track mixing desk which we use live, shed loads of amps and speakers etc that can be used. I might even get up and sing a song or two if you want.

Biggest questions now then are where and when. Obviously a lot of us will be in town for the Manchester gig on 28th January, which isn't far away and doesn't give us much time to get things organised. It's FA Cup weekend, so Man Utd may well be at home (and thus all the hotels full of travelling Man U fans - we won't know until the 1st Saturday in January).

If we can hire a suitable venue for the day/night (hard pushed to get a suitably central and equipped venue I would suspect at this stage, let alone costly). Plus the fact that we would all want to be at the Order gig rather than our own! Having the event on a Friday is a non-starter with people travelling to the location all day long, we can't all assume that everyone will be able to get time off work.

Much as it would be tempting to try and co-ordinate the event with the Manchester gig in January, I think that it would be too much too soon. Far better to try and go for Easter Bank Holiday Monday, at a time when the majority of people are on holiday. If we were determined to go for somewhere like Manchester, we could probably hire one of the student venues like Jabez Clegg at a decent rate (many students will be on vacation over Easter, thus hitting their profits).

I can't guarantee that Digital will play (as much as I would like to) as there are three others in the band, all of whom like the comfort blanket of the M25 - I can guarantee that I will be happy to get up on stage and do solo stuff though!

If you are looking at Jabez Clegg I know a guy that used to run it, so he could get a price.

Dave's got some PA, this is good. the desk will definitely cut the mustard I'd think (if we DO get any of this lot to play, and they need more than 18 channels, I'll start shooting members until we get the numbers down). What about Flight themselves?

I can see all the stray bits of bands making up one almighty NOOL supregroup at this rate. Let's face it that would work as well as any group of old jazzers sitting round playing Stella by Starlight (also known, if played indoors, as Bella by Barlight), we all know the material backwards.

Then again....a CD autochanger stacked with their entire catalogue and a few choice boots might just do the trick :)

ACTUALLY, you know what would be a great half way house on the music.....all of us with the know how, start getting good renditions of the various NO MIDI's together, then all we need is a mic, an ipod/mp3player/lapper and a bassamp and we can do the maddest karaoke ever, and everyone can have a crack.

Aye, see karoke only sucks when the vocalists in the pub lack the talent of those on the oringal recording. And while i'm sure none of use could beat Barney on a good take, we just have to beat the barney we know and love in reailty, which basically means that as long as you know what song yer doing you're on a winner.

the bassplaying bit i'm not so sure about, it'll be a tossup between people like me who'll worry about playing it, and not worry about looking like a prick, and those who are determined to play it like Hooky.An offical event chiropracter may be essential. I suppose we could let guitarists play along too.....but the sight of so many of them (for they do outnumber all other musicians put together 10 to 1) in one place, will almost certainly send me postal.

28th Jan is my 40th birthday so I think the family will want to do something. BH mon sounds good and if it's in Mancland then it won't be too difficult to take a mixer, PA Bass Amp, guitar amp etc along for all to use. Someone will need to bring drums though as I'm too scared to take the Roland kit out of the studio.

Steve, if you want a Flight set we will of course do it although this might bore those who want more than a few JD / NO songs.

I would have thought that the Bank Holiday Monday would make it difficult for people who have to go to work the next day - particularly if they have to travel a long way eg London!

If it were to be the Bank Holiday weekend then surely it would make sense to have it on one of the three other days, when most people will not have to go to work the next day, and so could maybe stay the night?!

well thats a good point for those from futher fields staying the night. which i will be one of anytime easter because no late bus to where i live any public holiday's. but i suppose not everyone will be happy whenever it is :)

I know you all been through this but I cant get my head round why this cant be done on Sat/Sun so that we can get our hang overs out the way before back to work tues and do family stuff good friday and easter monday. But I can get time off so I aint complaining and I am determined to make this as I cant go to Manc aid due to a holiday, I gonna see what my fella wants to do and hopefully bring him along to meet all you nutters and see what all the fuss is about!! Easter Sunday is a no-go, unfortunately, even with the recent changes to the licensing laws. We can try for Easter Saturday, but I suspect that Jabez Clegg may be unavailable that day, which takes us back to having to source a suitable venue.

I'll do some digging and report back in due course.
