I was thinking the other night (after the capacity to do so gently returned out of the bassfog of the apollo).
There have been many great front men in the history of pop and rock, back I was really stumped to think of a double act like Barney and Hooky. Of course the rolls of straight man and funny man are hardly defined with those two, but still, I rank them with Reeves and Mortimer, or at least in that category. I honestly think I've laughed harder at NO boots than any comedy. I was ticlked pink, mid-whitey, in the apollo to hear Barney's little "perrier speach", and Hooky's punchline was delivered with awesome timing.
I always think they could easily dispese with the music and we'd still all go home/switch the tape off, happy and entertained.
The only sad thing is, that Steve, now uses electric drums, and had his accoustic kit pretty tightly gated most of the time, so we never hear the stream of whatever it is he yells at Barney when he's gabbing at the crowd.....on the apollo webcast when Barney's doing his pantomime thing of "I don;t think we've played warsaw in manc before", you can see steve yelling "we have" in an amusing way in the background.
Ah, tears, laughter, and decent tunes, what more could you want.
