New Order roll up for cancer gig Roland Hancock
NEW Order will play at Manchester's biggest-ever charity concert to raise money to help in the battle against cancer.
The "Manchester versus Cancer" gig, which will feature some of the region's best-known artists, is backed by the M.E.N. and will be held on January 28.
Also in the line-up is Badly Drawn Boy, The Stone Roses' Mani, Doves and Stephen Fretwell. More acts will be announced in the M.E.N. over the next two weeks along with details of how to get tickets.
Ex-Smiths bassist Andy Rourke organised the night after hearing that his manager's sister had contracted cancer.
All proceeds, estimated to exceed £1m, will go to Christie Hospital, Europe's largest treatment and research centre into the disease. The concert will be held at the M.E.N. Arena.
Andy said: "It's just fantastic news. The band had a meeting this week and decided to go for it. We are still signing up more artists by the day and the night promises to be one of the best gigs ever.

Peter Hook, who plays bass guitar for New Order, said: "We are delighted to support this important cause.
"Cancer is like a lottery, but a lottery you wouldn't want to win.
"We are behind this fundraising event 100 per cent and are looking forward to helping raise money for Christie Hospital."
Toni Leden, appeals director at the Christie, said: "Just like Christie itself, the band is a real Manchester institution.
"We're thrilled they're generous enough to donate their time to help our cause like this.
"I'm sure it will be a performance to remember."
Manchester Versus Cancer takes place at the M.E.N. Arena on Saturday, January 28.

Am I the only one thinking this is gonna be shit? The venue is terrible. Worse than terrible. All the charm of an aircraft hanger. And you have to walk a fcuking mile from the floor to the bar, just to get a drink.
I can't see how this is gonna sell out either? New Order and Doves? They're gonna have to add to that bill, or make the tickets dead cheap to attract the punters.

You miserable get, You know yourself that it is the pre-gig partying beforehand that makes for a good occasion. A couple of stellas with vodka and you will be a happy bunny like the rest of us. Ignore the fact that it is in Manchester and at the MEN. Once we are all down the front it will be like any other NO gig (well maybe!) Nice to see you have the christmas spirit!! :D

I was wondering cause they still weren't mentioned on the official website for the gig. But now they are (again) so it's all good!
Seems like as the major headliner so far they'd have the most playing time. Unless they plan to be democratic and give everyone half-hour slots.

I think its a disgrace that Badly Written Songs will end up getting more time than New Order due to his pointless ramblings and crappy boring acoustic songs (and that bloody flute). Depends on how many bands actually play though. I hope though that they dont go as smaller than Stephen Fretwell (I'm looking at you, John Robb) and that we actually have some more proper, decent bands added. Richard Ashcroft would do well to make an appearance.
