Right, after some thinking and discussions with the other London-based band, it's gonna have to be held on the Saturday 15th April if it is in Manchester. It ain't feasible for the bands to be travelling back overnight after the gig if it is on the Monday - we all have work on Tuesday!

Sounds much better to me too! (by the way, my kids want to know if they are 'allowed' to come, or is it strictly adults only? - they are 12/15 respt).

Bless. My son, given the chance, would be there in a flash. he's only 5, but, that kid knows nearly every word to No/JD songs. It's amazing.

The first thing he asks me for hen we get to the car, is what NO/JD song he wants! Today, he fell asleep in the back of the car, Temptation was on, and he was singing the words in his sleep! Hoe cool is that????

Love the fact that when we go round Tesco's, he sings LWTUA, at the top of his voice, screaming, C'mon, just like hooky and barney do:) Do get loads of nasty looks though.

on this occasion, i think i'd like a break. When he's older, would be cool if he came, but by then, he'll be asahmed of his mum!

We need an "all NOOLers" welcome thing up on DR....Bonzette, I believe was under the impression it was invite only rather than NOOL-login only....if such a clever lady (still paying for the image tag thing Bonzababes) can think that...well...consider that like only 1% of the membership are even foum literate :)

Anyway, a full announcemt on the front page of the site would be bad before things are finalized....but a "your pissed up shitbag NOOLsiblings need YOU" would be good on DR.

Err can we not go nuts on THIS thread please (yes that DID stick right in my throat). we have to have ne that doesn't turn into sexual gantasies about bernard, my random techno wibblings or everyone pulling Maya's hair and running away.

fookin ell, so Jabez is a dead duck now..they are booked the Easter Sunday.

Can I stick my neck out here and suggest we have it in London?

The 'ardcore are based in London, without them we couldnt do a NOOL day, it's the best city in the world, let's use it.

So we've gone from half way sorted to totally back to sq 1 then.

I can't afford London...20 times the airfair (actually MUCH more..and getting to that cunt of an international airport in the arse end of nowhere)...10 timse everything else.

but i don't care....wake me up and let me know when you're all done with the headless chicken thing.....and i will be there.

How typically NO this is turning out to be.

Which is why I'm getting MY whining in now :D

:banghead: FOOK! I'm going to be talking Cock-er-ney if I make another trip down to London again! Never mind,WHATEVER as Sebastian would say.I'll play wherever, preferable if it's the Saturday. :dj:

Have you been to sleep yet Steve?

Air fare from London to Northeren Ireland is VERY expensive. It's cheaper to go to Europe! I'm going to be in Northern Ireland-again in Januray, so i know how expensive it is!

I think keeping the event "in the middle" somewhere is a much better idea, seeing as i'm invited:D , sorry Steve for not being my usual intelligent self. It's not entirely clear though. When it is finalised, defo have a new post that details everything, and who is welcome.

Sunday? It's the Saturday we need. If that ain't on then we need a rethink.

Bollocks - this is just people jumping in at the deep end and making assumptions. If that's the way you want it then fair enough. I'm still working on the principle that it will be in Manchester, but on the Saturday rather than the Monday. You won't have either Re: Order or Digital playing if it is the Monday, and nobody from London will bother attending either.

But if it's headless chicken shit you want, I suggest that those who want to hijack this and go off on theor own tangents feel free to do so.

Don't mind me.

That's what i meant by "very NO" the ones who whine leaving it til last and then getting their way cos they whine loudest. there was a poll open for 10 days like.

That and the fact that i am CAPTAIN sleep deprivationa dna agony. ignore me completely.

London is hideously expensive in all respects. that should be reaon enough to exclude it for a bunch of cheapskates AND charity connections

But I will be there, unless I am strapped to a hospital bed or in a strait jecket, I will be there. It's about time we all hung out, and it's about time I used what I'm good at to help us all.

Again if anyone's gonna start listeningto me or taking me too seriously today...I'm gonna get punched...think of me as oscar the grouch and try not to dump rotting fish on my head.

oops, didnt mean to start a load of confusion Tim.

Sat defo better, I thought you meant Easter Sunday which seemed odd.

Doubt we can use Jabez on that day though.

From what I can gather:

It'll be on a Saturday (we want the bands who are so generously giving their time)

It was decided Manchester - the 'Hardcore' will go wherever it is, but I'm easy (calm down eh?)

It will be March or April

Is that right? I think Tim's right - let's keep this thread on topic or we'll never sort it out.

If those arrangements have gone out of the window, I've found a free-to-hire venue, complete with 5 a side pitches and pub-price bar until 12am.

No stage, but enough space for a band. Problem: London suburb, but close to 2 rail stations, motorway, buses, etc.

I also have local cab company connections and a couple of cheap(ish) hotels/B&Bs for stopping over.

Let me know guys and we'll start being sensible.

And Tim, when are you playing at the Grey Horse?

Me....i'm gonna go hide and shut up until there's something needing talked about that's my place to talk about (this is a new tactic for me....but it's the only way to not fuck all this up :D )

I've now been told that my supposedly horrific drug therapy will begin at the end of Feb....so I have no dea what state I will be in, could be totally sweet, could look like a Dr Who monster (more than usual i mean). Even if it IS really horrible.....it may be that a day or two each side of NOOL day as a little pill holiday....would enable me to party and drink.

But I cannot see it preventing me from making it and being able to do the needful. And if that's gonna change I'll know by about the 2nd week of march, so not eactly last minute.

But I'm missing manc aid to make it to this, i WILL be there :D

ATTENSHUN!!!!

Hiya folks! Is Jabez Clegg set in stone at the moment? It seems to be up in the air whether they can book for Easter Saturday or not. Only reason I ask is that I know a club in Manchester off Deansgate, near Teasers, where I've DJed a birthday party recently. I've just been talking to the boss there about whether we could have reduced room hire for a charity gig on Easter saturday..... Upstairs we could have for FREE!! Upstairs floor holds about 270 people. He's provisionally booked it till I find out where we're up to.

Officer thinking...good backup plan (that may find itself as plan A soon enough....who knows) :D

AND you know the venue which is handy :)

It's called "14 LLOYD STREET". Lloyd Street being the road leading up from Deansgate up to Albert Square. It's facing the Rising Sun,and it's well smart inside! It's free, but I said hold it for us and I'll let him know in a couple of weeks if we don't need it.

with any luck u have mail....nthing remotely important...I only mention here cos NTL have been bouncing everything from my domain the bastards.

Good man! Can you go ahead and book it please, but get me the contact details of the gaffer etc. We'll need to know what they have in terms of stage, PA availability, various bar promotions etc.

Obviously we'd have to downsize the scale of everything from a 500 cap to a 270 cap, but that would give us a lot more chance of a full house! I'll have to speak to Re: Order to see if they are prepared to do a Saturday gig now. Can't speak for the rest of Digital, but I will be there, doing a solo set if required.

Makes a lot more sense to do the Saturday rather than the Monday - when I'm back home after the few days with the outlaws in rather restricted net access, I should be able to pick up the cudgels and get things moving again.

Sorry a bit late replying to you Tim.I've provisionally booked the room under my name John Montague, the boss there's called Steve.I'll get his number in a bit mate.

TIM, the number for "14 LLOYD STREET" is 0161 832 8285. STEVE the boss said he'd check his diary, but he's almost certain that date is ok for upstairs dancefloor.

Cheers - we're gonna need venue with stage and suitable for bands to play, preferably with a dressing room. Something that is just a dancefloor ain't gonna be any use to us, unfortunately.

It's already booked up for April. We're gonna have to call in a few favours if we are gonna get a Manchester Saturday gig in April at this stage. I'll do some investigating.

Right. You may have thought things had gone a bit quiet on this, but I've been doing some spadework to try and get things established.

Basically we've got no chance of getting a suitably sized venue in Manchester free of charge for April 15th.

I therefore recommend that we think in terms of rescheduling this for maybe August or early September. Maybe August Bank Holiday weekend Saturday? That doesn't of course mean that nothing needs to be progressed now, far from it. As soon as I've recorded this Community track I'll get back onto the case.

Sounds perfectly alright to me.

Exactly. What can you do? I've asked the band's management if there are any plans to play Reading/Leeds, not wanting to know if that is a definitive yes, just whether there are plans to be gigging at that time of year. Nowt back, of course. Liam - get yer mate Alex to ask Andy, will you? :thumb:

Yeah that one on the UMIST grounds across from Retro Bar,they've got a class pub upstairs, and a quite spacious area downstairs with a stage. I've done a few sponsored "BOGLE STROLL" walks for UMIST,and we always register down there. MAXWELL HALL,don't hear much these days, but it's seen the likes of Siouxsie and Bauhaus in days gone by.

Our Bank Holiday is the last Monday in August, we don't get one in September. Mind you, they are always Mondays, and people have to work on the Tuesday, so we are far better looking at a Saturday for this. Heard anything from Rebecca yet? She didn't reply to my mail about this event.

Good luck, she's almost impossible to reach, even by phone! But sometimes she does reply pretty quickly.

When I ask for a photo pass, she never replies to the mail sent 3 weeks in advance, but always reply to the one 24 hours before the gig...

I never talked with her about that event actually, as I don't know all the details...

I don't think email is the best way to reach them to be honest, but persistance is something needed!

Can you afford to buy his services for the night and not spoil the general idea of this event, which would be a non-profit making event that was giving all proceeds to charity?

personally, I don't think there's much value in paying for hooky's musical services but there does need to be an added brucie bonus. my sense of the event from its initial gestation was that it would be a greater social get together than usual with a neworder/jd/factory/manc/etc soundtrack and (most importantly) some 5-a-side footy! however, only the latter really differentiates it from either of the two events surrounding it.

I don't want to be seen as conflationary as I haven't followed all the progress of the development of the event but I got the sense that the non-profit making and charitable aspect of the process was put forward as a cost effective way of getting gear, venue etc - rather than the 'general idea'. Though I might just be mis-reading your post.

I am probably being quite cynical but I don't think that with the sandwich of two real new order gigs and the accompanying social chaos, that an extended day of tribute music and the charitable angle are the best USPs for the event. that's not to say we can't use those motives and elements in our considerations but there should also be something we can offer up that would make it a singular moment of NOOL...?

hmmm perhaps hooky doesn't sound that bad - is he any good in goal?

Sounds great... Hoping to go to London and Wolves, so would be perfect... And looking forward :) (in some cases, dreading... :eek3: ) meeting folks... See you there :thumb:

I can't see all that much benefit to anyone but Spotnick in holding NOOL Day inbetween two NO gigs - we'll all be fooked after Wembley anyway!

The key considerations with this day, whenever it happens, are the costs. We need a guarantee of bums on seats to get any decent venue, and you know what people are like for saying they will do something and then not bothering. We don't have the luxury of promoters' cash backing us, so we either have to stump up some readies up front or play the charity card.

We'll need something more than a fake Bernard and pals and Jim Reilly Jim Reilly to sell this, in all probability, but whether Hooky would be either prepared to DJ for a lot less than he usually commands, or even with a bunch of tribute bands, will have to be seen. I do have a couple of possibilities, but will keep powder dry until we know how the land lies with venues and timings etc.

The good thing is, if it is in between the Wembley/Wolves dates, most people will try to go. I'll be in London anyway, so it would be pointless for me to come down for one night.

I'm planning Wembley, NOOL Day, Wolves. PROPER bender :thumb:

Well, Hooky did offer it for us free in Chicago, eventually he was too tired because it was the night of the gig.

But I know his fee... and he kind of owe a little to WenOrder for cancelling his Baltimore date ;)

But you're true, I was forgetting about the charity aspect of the thing. Shame on me.

BTW, I checked... Tom Jones is at the Wembley Arena on the 28th, so there is no chance New Order would play there on the Saturday :evil4:

26 is still opened though!

OK, if you can get Hooky free/cheap for the 28th October in London, we'll do it. Provided of course that he will be in the same venue as a bunch of Hooky imitators!

We'd have to charge an entry fee in any case, as even the little things cost, but the bands won't be getting anything but expenses for performing. The plan was obviously to do our bit for Manchester vs Cancer (and indeed other charities too), you'd hope that this would act as an incentive for people to want to get involved.

Over to you Spotnick, see if you can get some leverage on Hooky!

I'll see what I can do.

Obviously it's a long shot, but worth a try. Plus, pre-selling tickets for such an event would be doable via NewOrderOnline of course, but I'll leave that to you, since I'm not a project manager and I'm used to have all kind of crazy ideas and must be brought to world where money doesn't grow on trees ;)

I for one would be glad to pay towards this do. Only right, with all the time and money spent by others in making this stuff happen.

Speaking as someone who has booked Hooky in the past (and a bunch of UK and international DJs over the last ten years) his fee was in fact the lowest I've ever paid for anyone. By a mile. I don't know where everyone seems to be getting this information about him being so expensive. And I was quoted the same deal earlier this year.

What you've gotta remember is that DJ's/artists have one "agent" but often they have multiple "diary holders". In other words there's likely to be a good few agencies/diary holders claiming to represent an artist but in fact they only act as middlemen between the promoter and the agent. They make there money by fleecing the promoter for as much as they think they can get away with. Your always best trying to get straight to the agent.

That aside I don't think booking him for this event would be a good idea. Something doesn't sit quite right about him doin what is essentially a fan club gig.

Absolutely right sir. I would feel even more of a cunt than I usually do up on stage doing Curtis impressions if Hooky was there, and I hate to think what Will's Shakin' Stevens send-up would be like! :evil4:

I've seen that live sex show of yours and I think Hooky should be spared. Except if you bring the ping-pong balls again.

Unless you're intending to come along to the Shakin Stevens Online Day that I'm organising, you won't get the opportunity to see that 'send-up'...

That's one for Tim, but I will say this, each band you add not only adds set time to the night, it adds setup time to the day, not mention the increased chance of one or more members of the un-hired help suffering breakdowns.

What's this, light the blue touchpaper and retire? As if most of them would even read the e-mail now they have their record deal :evil4:

It would be great to have Glasnost there as well, but Alejo would have to find a way of financing his flights, the money this thing makes is going to charity.

Realistically, no fooker will turn up if you have a whole bunch of bands who mean fook all to most of the people there. Law of geography dictates that most of the people there will be British, and many of them will either know the UK contingent from NO, Re: Order or Digital gigs. It simply won't sell if you have the like of Tomakazi or whatever their name is, sending everyone to sleep with the new Slowdive. Each band we add to the roster shortens the set for everyone, and creates more work for the resident knob twiddler and the humper crew.

Re: Order will undoubtedly be the biggest draw there, they have been playing gigs up and down the country to good crowds for some time now, everyone knows them and knows you have a good time at their gigs. Digital can be relied on to play you a load of JD stuff accurately and throw in a bunch of NO stuff as well (and we even play everything live!), and we all know that Flight are a well-known and very highly regarded band who will provide some original material. Jack's band will offer the youth policy a chance to shine, and I am looking forward to seeing them (not least to see Jack's bass rig!)

Where this will differ from the likes of Community is that it won't be a bunch of guys with bedroom computers pressing buttons and producing nice poppy twiddly sounds, it will be real live bands playing real live (and mimed :evil4: ) music, which doesn't lend itself to having loads of bands each doing one song or whatever.

For example, if we assume that Hooky's DJ set starts at 11pm-1am, Re: Order (or whichever band gets the last slot) would be coming on at 9.30ish for about 80 mins, whoever precedes them would be on at 8.15 for an hour, whoever precedes them would be on at 7.30 for 45 mins, and the band before them at 6.45 for half an hour. It's already become an early start with just four bands playing average length sets!

Aha! Flight don't use a drum kit, and us and Re: Order tend to share drum kit and some backline when we play together (or at least have done on three occasions in the past). Presumably Twatto drums?

The best you'll get out of Glasnost is Sophia singing live over pre-recorded music, and it seems pretty evident she won't be able to make it as they are moving to Crete with Elias as we speak, those of you doing Ejekt might have to convinced her :evil4:

It's obvious it's more for UK bands, and I have no idea which bands actually perform live.

Probably Flight and Captain Black. I don't know if kREMLIN does live gigs, there are the Importers. The other bands from the UK are not even semi-pro, so I doubt they would do it.

Just giving ideas, I won't stand in the way of the lineup ;)

I could always ask Pottsy, but I'm not sure you both will get along for some reason :evil4:

My flights are.....Free no really, I just pay all the stealth charges. What a fucked up pricing model that is eh?

Let's not bugger this up folks...I'm really looking forward to it ;)

Feel a strong urge to start asking hard questions, but there's plenty of time for that right? :D to relieve the pressure I have to let this out though, fart-style.

If we could settle for a single electric drumkit, we'd save buckets in cash and complication. One electric and one accoustic would be OK, 13 bands with accoustic kits 18 percussion players and a brass section each would be decidedly non-optimal ;)

My band might be up for playing, don't know how to describe out sound - I'm on bass [distorted/tuned to dgcf/hooked up to an effects pedal] and vocals [for the cover songs - LWTUA by JD and All The Day by the Kinks] and my friend on drums. We don't have a drumkit though, so that's the only setback, can do a 20-30 minute set if you want.

Not at all - we do have some respect you know! Hooky will have his own dressing room and space. The bands are all professional in approach to the music, and there will be a backstage area where only those actually involved in playing and organising will be allowed. Plus, we will be inviting Sarge!

Not yet, but this will be announced shortly

You'd be able to use the same kit as everyone else, including backline I would think.

Depends on how many bands agree to participate, but I would expect about half an hour, maybe 40 mins. Most JD gigs were that length!

You misinterpret me a bit Al - the backstage will be no different to places like the Underworld or similar, just a dressing room for the bands. We even had one at the Roadhouse, and I suppose you could call the cupboard at the side of the Hope and Anchor stage a backstage area! I wasn't for one second meaning some kind of elite area. All gigs have somewhere the bands go to after they have finished playing, even it's just for 30 seconds! You rarely see any band, including Re: Order, finishing their set and walking offstage into the crowd!

Er, Tim, I think I've been to enough gigs in the past to understand just how a backstage area works but as half of the NOOLers attending this event will be with bands anyways that leaves half of the attendees in an exclusion zone, and the rest of us just being mug punters.

I'd hope that rather less than half the attendees would be in the bands! If we've only got 28 people in then we might as well forget it! Safe to say that those who are in bands playing at this will not be staying backstage all night, everyone else will be front stage so why would they want to? I don't think anyone will be desperate to hang round Hooky, well maybe Jimbo :evil4: will, but we'll all be looking to have a good time the same as everyone else there, surely?

It had certainly never occurred to me that there might be some perception of an elite area or an exclusion zone, that's not what we want at all. I don't think being in a tribute band entitles anyone to an elite area!

Having said that, I'm putting razor wire, watch towers and machine gun nests round the mixer. Beer+mixer=no money for charity.

Tim, it's slowly crystalizing in my mind that there is a time to listen to Al, as he often speaks a great deal of sense....and there is a time to realise that he is bored and no-one offline is available to have their chain yanked :D

Well, its mainly financial considerations.

I'm probably going to have another Morrissey tour to do, at £30 a time, at least. The Cure may be playing again, I expect the Pet Shop Boys to tour and all kinds of random and stupid things that Alex will persuade me to do.

Plus, I am hoping to get abroad at some point this year. And theres always next years festivals as well...

Then again, see how I feel on the day. Everyone needs to see Digital at least once in there lives, and Re: Order is always fun. But wont stay to see the old man spin records.

If I *really* wanted to go to NOOL day, so much so that i spent every waking hour on this board moaning how I couldnt get tickets, I would find a way to go, whether it cost me £6 or £6000. However, to me, its totally dispensable, and there are things coming up which I woudl rather do.

So it's got fcuk all to do with 'financial considerations' as I'm presuming you'll be in the London area anyways.

Without wishing to put the proverbial cat amongst t'pigeons, we get an absolute max of 20 people from here turn out for Re-order gigs, roughly the same 20 would show for Digital and again, as has been proved time and time again in London, the same 20 again for Hooky dj sets.

In all seriousness, how many are we expecting for NewOrderOnline day?!

And why are any additional people suddenly coming out because it's a "day out associated with a website" when they never ever make an effort if it's just (a) Re-order, (b) Digital or (c) Hooky?

There will obviously be an additional groundswell of the Northern Order attending Wemberlee then perhaps stopping darn sarf before heading off to Wolves, but that's not gonna number more than another 20 again, surely? Barney Army, Liam, ATR, the Thomases, etc.

So, are we confident of getting the numbers in?

surely this is the paradox of 'NOOL day' - the monicker implies exclusivity but economics (and maths!) would necessitate a wider market. but then, who is the day for? I would have thought the best that could be expected would be something like the pre-match turnouts at brixton and peel day... perhaps double that, as everyone has a mate or partner who they might want to come. and then a low - medium sized venue doesn't seem so sparsely occupied. venues of the size and suitability of dublin castle, clockwork, dingwalls, bloomsbury bowl ...etc would seem to me to be of the appropriate scale.

and Al, I agree with your assumption that the entertainment on board won't generate 3 sets of turnout merely the same potential turnout with 3 times as much to entertain them. it's hard to know whether it's the collective interest of the board that has brought the event to this point and 6 pages of discussion or merely the enthusiasm of a handful of altruistically intended individuals - however, any roll call is going to be misleading and probably bury the idea. I believe that if it's going to happen then, once it's scheduled as part of that weekend's social action, it develops some of its own momentum but the risk involved means that the ambitions of the size of the event be tempered slightly.

I would also suggest that this is really 'NOOL night' as nobody is going to want to spend too much of the day in a venue. and the NOOLday aspect applies to the 5-a-side football that should be resurrected. or just a mass kickabout in hydepark!

Nail well and truly hit on head! All we need is somewhere that will look busy with 100 and rammed with 200 just in case we get some special guests dropping in. Footy is very much part of the plan still, that doesn't require the same degree of organisation as a gig though, hence the greater emphasis at this stage on the gig.

i reckon the UK tour should generate enough interest in the online get together to pack a venue of at least 200 especially if the hook-meister is spining the discs.

i reckon i'll be bringing a few chums along if it goes ahead.

I'd love to come to all the aforementioned, but as you so rightly point out..........time and time again in LONDON: it's not that easy you know Al!!! Half of the time, it is midweek; I struggle enough to get away at weekends, as I am sure some other Larndarner will confirm.....

Family then work in that order, have to come first; that's just the way it is. Wherever the location.

It's unlikely I can make NOOL; and more than likely Wembley; and I think its pretty obvious I wont be going to Wolves now..........doesnt make me a lesser fan of NO though....does it?

BTW, in case yer all wondering why no technobabble, I already know what needs doing, once I get an idea of the venue I will have a final battleplan.

I love the way you lot can turn this around.

Doesn't make you a lesser fan of NO?! Where. Did. That. Come. From?!

This is about NewOrderOnline day, not New Order.

And that day is basically about (1) Hooky deejaying, (2) Re-order playing, and (3) Digital playing. And whilst the latter two will basically do it for free, Hooky will expect a fee. Whether is goes to charidee, or not, there will surely have to be a fee. Which means you need a fair few more people from here to attend in order that this fee gets paid and our organisers don't run at a loss. Simple economics. Which is why I asked whether they could be sure they're guaranteed the numbers?!

Al's right, about the ecconomics and the fact that those of us who feel a bit put upon, shouldn't bring it into NOOLday. Rise above it, everyone.

We might, if the venue is small enough, be able to do without a full size PA, instead using just a vocal system. Wouldn;t be ideal certainly, but it'd save money. (and I would have a relaxing day...it's not possible to make hard work of a 2 channel vocal PA).

I'm starting to have some bad feelings about this.

Last trip I did maxed the credit cards and I still owe money about it. October is only in 3 months, I'm not sure I'll be able to raise enough money for this unless I do a loan or something...

I'll do what I can... I figure I'd need something near 2000$ to do a 5 days trip and hotel, still a lot of money, I'll try my best!

Oh well...

Ok - This is the first post I have made on this subject.

I will of course be attending anything that's on offer. If there's footy involved I will bring my whistle, flags, cards and Ivanov attitude.

But time's marching on. I'm going to Wembley on the Friday and Wolverhampton on the Sunday. If there's nothing going on in between I intend to make a weekend of it in Wolvo and so need to book b&b and stuff.

I know these things take a lot of organising, and it sounds like bleating when I've done nowt, but I think now a decision needs to be made soon as to whether this is going to happen, and if so where and in what form.

Sorry if this post rubs anybody up the wrong way - it wasn't meant to do so, but I think that if nothing happens soon even the hardcore will have alternative arrangements to make.

Quite simply, I am waiting for a answer from the preferred venue to see if they are prepared to buy into the idea that it is a charity event, and thus to not expect the usual promoter references and bond upfront. If they are prepared to accept what we are trying to do, that we aren't bona fide promoters but a website trying to do something for the community of fans and for charity, then it will be taking place in London on Saturday 28th October.

However, if the venue's managing company are insistent that to host an event, they require financial guarantees from a promoter, including a bond up front and two references (and the bond to be drawn on a company account) then we are faced with either appealing to a promoter to undertake the job (which would almost inevitably mean that they want a cut, thus either reducing the charity contribution or increasing the ticket cost to you, the punter), or trying to choose an alternative venue. At this stage, that may prove a bridge too far.

Goodwill and enthusiasm aren't enough in this game.

Did you get any further response from Rebecca, Spotnick?

Pompey Order came up with the cracking idea of 'Viking Boxing' over the weekend. You know, like white collar boxing, where offices fight one another.

Said we should do it at the last UK gig, but perhaps we should have it on the Saturday instead?! Draw in the punters?

We've already got the first couple of bouts lined up.

Me vs Pompey Order. Cos he's a cnut. And he deserves a slap. And if I ever see his face again it'll be too soon.

David Potts offered to play, he's releasing a new album around that time, so it's pretty logic for him.

He said Hooky would probably join him for a number or two... :thumb:

So I think it's time to settle a venue... I'm getting more frustrating as time goes by because I feel I'll miss it damn it :banghead: would have been a super birthday present.

Strangely enough, I'm well aware that it is time to settle a venue. You try telling the venues in this country that we are trying to put on a charity gig - they won't touch it as we aren't promoters, don't have a company cheque book on which to pay deposits etc, and don't have promoter references.

Now if Alan Wise was to get involved, we may have some clout, but until he comes back to me we are in limbo.

Oddly enough I was thinking about Mr Wise as an option the other day. Even if he could simply underwrite it for us....shut the venue up without actually long-term parting with any of his folding money.

I SAID London venues were cash whores now didn't I :)

When I was working, I had to put money in to whip-rounds for annoying gits when they left,(even though I hated them)

Glad I do not have to do that any more.

And I'd much rather try and help out with something cool, that I still hope to go to, however unlikely that seems with circumstances right now.:thumb:

Some of this clearly isn't getting through......it's not about money at all. The majority of venues will only deal with promoters, and we aren't promoters! They want a deposit (not a problem) on a company cheque (problem) before they will even start talking.

I do have a cunning plan though, and this should come through by this weekend.

Ok..

My band has got together a little setlist - that we would like to play at NOOL day.

Tim or anyone from Re: Order, do you want us to tell you which New Order/Joy Division songs we are thinking of covering, so we don't all end up playing the same thing, or does that not matter?

I think we are only gonna play like 8 songs anyway - 6 covers and 2 originals.

Anyway let me know please :)

Doesn't really matter what you play Jack, there will be so much overlap with the songs between your band, Flight, Digital and Re: Order. I suppose the audience will be expecting this anyway!

We'll be doing what I guess will predominantly be a JD set that may see a couple of NO songs thrown in, and Re: Order will be asked to do a predominantly NO set to try and alleviate the duplication, but I suppose this is likely to be one audience where it matters a bit less!

By all means let me know what you are planning to do though, chances are that none of the other bands will be doing them if they are more back-catalogue and not greatest hits. We tend to mix it up a bit on the JD stuff, and Re: Order do some of the album tracks only NO stuff as well as all the favourites. We like to think that there's a good balance.

Tim, will you email me so I can email you back with our proposed setlist??

I was going to ask you about this,Tim.If I get to DJ on the day,do we want all NO/JD/NO RELATED or a bit of everything?

I do have a cunning plan though, and this should come through by this weekend.

Sorry, should have made myself clearer, I know the score regarding what you need to pull off here. But the time will come when petty ( or not so petty) cash is needed, that's what I was on about. Didn't mean to muddy the waters.

14 bands and I'm bringing a megaphone, a cattleprod and amachine gun! ;)

actually, if there is going to be a few bands, could they play at really low volume. in another room even. cheers! :thumb:

Would love to make it to NOOL Day but need to know, how much its going to cost - would pay upfront if necessary and the venue in London. I'm 99.9% certain to be there as due to work commitments I don't think I can do Hooky's DJ set in Lewisham this weekend and I wouldn't mind checking out Digital re:order etc. Cheers:thumb:

It's all for charity, and ticket prices will depend on what overheads we pick up, but I am guessing it will probably be £10, very much doubt it will be any more than that.

Looks like I have a small chance to make it after all :thumb:

So what do we need now? I doubt I can't pull strings...

Isn't GaryMac supposed to do some kind of promoting? doesn't he have strings to pull? I know he's in Manchester, but I'm asking...

I forgot to say... if I do make it, and it looks likely at this point, I will do all I can to bring boxes of the Community 2 CDs with me (as long as the airline let me do so!), so most of you will be able to save big on the shipping and get it fresh out of the box.

One thing that I didn't like about the results of Community is the unfortunate lack of UK bands on it, so right now, only kREMLIN will be able to sign it on place... :brow:

Who knows, I could also bring stuff from the shop for people interested, they will cost a lot less than what they will sell at Wembley

But once again, don't want to sell stuff all evening, that's for sure.. but since some bands do have albums available for sale, Digital and Re:Order could even produce a few quantity of albums, we could probably have a booth there... selling Hacienda CD (Hooky), Pottsy's new single and other stuff... and pay a person to take care of this...?

I guess we could all put a part of the profits to charity of course.. since it is the main goal of the evening.

Do we need a permit for that?

My band is still interested, just need to ask the drummer. However, we have no bass amp or drum kit. :/

Bloody hell, I saw that last post at work and its been a good five hours since I left there. How come no one seems to have taken Marc up on his offer? Or been ridiculously quick to offer him the use of some equipment?

You have to wonder what kind of band has a drummer without a kit and a bassist without an amp! Love of life makes you feel "HIRE" !

I have my big bass amp in Sussex, he has his drum kit in Sunderland. Might be a bit of a hassle transportation-wise. :/

Good news chaps and chapesses, we have a venue!

GJ's, the place that we were gonna use for the oldmonkey 40th birthday gig until we got a gig in Glasgow, have taken a booking just a few minutes ago. Gregor the boss is a fan of the band, it turns out!

We've got the whole pub/venue to ourselves, two bars, stage, restaurant etc. We'll have to sell tickets in advance and do a lot of organising etc.

I'll set up all the details about the venue etc when I get home. There is a Travelodge about 200 yards away, it's 3 mins from a tube on the Northern Line Zone 3, and there are several cracking curry houses etc nearby. And some football pitches just round the corner!

that ticks all the boxes I reckon (apart from the big horrible one that says "anywhere but south london" - but then the north london order are on home turf the night before) well done fella let me know when you need stuff 'realised'

GJs I note on the front page of their site they offer a spit roast... definitely one of the boxes I didn't expect to see ticked.

Nice one, it has the potential to be a really good night. Let me know when you need money i'm happy to pay upfront. Perhaps people should be emailing now to give you an idea of numbers expected.

Ta, guess we'll sell tickets through the site. There's still a hell of a lot to do, all kinds of logistics, publicity, promotion etc.

All it's cost me is £50 deposit (!) and about twelve months of earache!

We've got the whole venue, which means we can fit 300 in. Obviously we'll be looking to get close to that figure, and we'll be able to publicise it on here, through Re: Order, Digital and Flight gigs, and I would imagine a whole range of other channels too.

I shall start contacting various people who had offered to do things very soon! Right now it's feet up and a beer though.

Good news indeed. It also means we can actually announce the thing soon and put banners everywhere.

Good work Tim... I'll forward the info to Rebecca when I'll be home and also to Pottsy see if he's still up to the job. Wouldn't advertize any Monaco reunion though, if it happens, it will happen... if not, that's what we expected ;)

Just lemme know the approc size of the place and whether or not they have anything nice and loud in house we can blag the use of. Essentially I am fairly sure of everything except how much PA to hang off the mixer. I am assuming we're not going for EVIL volume anyway, and if we can use the electronic kit, we're on a winner.

which GJ'S is it - wandsworth or colliers wood?

I'm assuming here it's Colliers Wood, the newer place has venue facilities, and later describes it's near the Northern Line. Can't wait. Nice work,Timothy!:thumb:

It's the Colliers Wood one. We used to go in there all the time when we lived in Colliers Wood a couple of years back, and it's a great place. We were holding my birthday gig there, but that has had to be postponed because we're playing in Glasgow the next night instead, and the lads don't want to do two gigs several hundred miles apart in two nights (quite understandably!).

I'm going down there later this week to get all the tech spec, room dimensions etc so we know what rig to get. I do know that they have an in-house PA that is used for DJ sets, whether that will fit the bill I don't know yet. We don't want a massive set-up though, something that we can all use (Digital have our own PA that we often use as a monitor mix or for sequencers, I guess Re: Order do as well) without any problems. Will keep people posted!

As soon as I've got a feel for what any additional sound will cost us, we can set the ticket price. Bearing in mind that the objective is to raise money for charity, we will only be paying expenses to bands (who may decide to donate that back, of course!). With a 300 cap on the venue it'll have to be around £10 per ticket I think. Not bad for what you will be getting!

I guess we can also sell "virtual tickets" for peole willing to donate to the cause but won't show up.

The in house rig may not be any use, especially if it has speakers all over the place.Obviously from a cash saving point of view, the in house system would be the way to go.

My email's down cos my broadband's still fooked, so I'll have to keep in touch here.

Quality idea.

Equipment wise, I assume all we need to bring is guitars, effects and keys? Will we be able to use someone elses backline amps?

Cheers

Dave PS we've put a littlel bit of info on our website. Just drop us the full hit and we will email it to our mail group.

Yeah, there's car parking at the front. Not much mind, but you'll be ok with the van there.

Good question about backline - with up to 5 bands playing now we'll have to sort out who provides the drum kit, for example. Gonna sort out the PA situation with the gaffer at the weekend, if need be I'll hire a decent rig then hand it over to Cambo to work his magic.

Makes sense to only have one set of amps etc on stage, and for those travelling from afar to only bring guitars/keys/effects etc.

Hopefully there will be a video wall or a white sheet at the worst for a Flight laser show as well, but don't hold your breath on that one Dave!

oldmonkey wrote: Good question about backline - with up to 5 bands playing now we'll have to sort out who provides the drum kit, for example.

Wherever possible I usually like to use my own drum kit at gigs so if that's OK with everyone then I'm happy to kit share with anyone....I live quite close so it would be easy to get my kit there and hopefully that would make it easier for Flight or Jaks band if they are having to travel down from the North.

The only thing I normally say is that people bring their own cymbals and Snare Drum etc.

Cheers Warren (Re:Order)

Not another one? We've only got the venue for one night!

We've got, in no particular order:

Flight Digital Re: Order Jack and the Bates Masters :evil4: Pottsy and chums

not had any more mails from you about anyone else. Realistically we'll have to draw a line under it there, as with Hooky DJing as well, and Monty DJing between bands, we'll have to have the first band on pretty early already!

We'll go first.

Then at least if we're shit, people will have forgotten about us by the time Digital or Re: Order come on :spit:

I'll soundcheck you lot last then, that way you walk on to the same mix you checked with, it'll take a little of that first gig stress out of things for you. The more experienced bands will breeze through the first song or so where things sound odd as I get the mix back...unless anyone wants to hire/give us a great big fook off total recall desk...press button, fuck off to bar ;)

As for other things, I would stil love electric drums only for all sorts of lazy reasons (as well as the obvious artistic reason of being able to play without the backline screaming in the red to keep up with the kit). But I'm just as happy with accoustic drums, as long as we can settle on one or two kits. 5 chenges of kit and we'll have no time for music, and the drums will sound perpetually cack. If the stage is big enough, there's not much problem with there being multiple guitar and bass amps. it's easy to swap a draped mic or DI, mains can be an arse tho, the less yanking and plugging of mains plugs on a dark stage the better. And as I have mentioned before, if the keyboard dudes want to send me individual feeds from each keyboard we are gonna need one hell of a big mixing board, I don't mind that, I can do big boards, but it also means bigger bucks, and also creates a requirement for a complex/hard to find, stage box, or a veritable army of DI boxes, each costing 5-10 quid to hire and each being one little bastard of a failure waiting to bugger it all up on us.

i know it is really early to be thinking about some of this, but if we all keep simplisity and ease of change-over in mind from the get-go in terms of technical planning, there will be less screaming and tears on the day :D

There will only be the one kit on stage, it'll be Warren's acoustic kit as the last band on. We'll have two octapad things as well for Insight and She's Lost Control, but no sequencers from us (thank fook, unless we do The Eternal and sequence the shimmery sound at the start), we'll be doing a straightforward JD set with just one keyboard DI input. It's Re: Order who'll have all the kit, but they also know exactly what goes where and what draws what, so it won't be as onerous as you may suspect!

All our effects will be off the pedals rather than a rack effects loop for simplicity and ease of clearance afterwards, and I guess amps are pretty portable too.

Ok, you included Pottsy.. didn't see it on the first message, so I thought you were not including him ;)

Now I need to try to convince the greeks to come.. I'm sure some of the bands out there could help Sophia singing over your music isn't it? :p Crystal, Vanishing Point, Turn, Dreams Never End (although I hope Flight will do us the honors), We All Stand... would be nice ;)

Wishful thinking... the girl is lost in Crete without Internet, so I doubt she'll read this anyways!

Sorted, easy peasy lemon squeezy.

As I say amps are no bother, it's easy to have them all there and just swap the DI's and mics, especially since I am a HUGE fan of dumping the mic over the top of the amp and letting it hang side on, on the speaker grille, sounds daft, but works brilliantly...especially for all you bastards with AC30's, it takes a lot of the shriek out.

I'm looking forward to this, big time, I must confess however to being a little aprehensive at working so far from my "support network", the folks I phone when things go tits up and I need to find a 1000W poweramp at 10pm.

If you give me a wants list on PA gear, (a realistic one!!! ) I will have a scout around for some London PA companies that can provide.

None of us use AC30s by the way! I'm a Marshall man through and through, and my rig will be a Marshall MG100DFX with additional 4x12 cab. Phil uses a Roland Cube, and Jim Reilly Jim Reilly uses whatever he can get his hands on!

Can I suggest splitting this thread? It would seem to be the first port of call and master thread for info updates and such. But there is obviously also a need for a thread dedicated to the more techy, esoteric details of the evening. I say this because I would contribute to that thread but don't want to bore anybody who might be hoping to catch up with information that concerns the larger body of viewers.

Splitting this thread?!

No offence lads, but there are now THREE threads, all stickies, about 'NOOL Day', one of which has been here for nine months.

All being done for a good cause, etc, and for the Community as a whole, but three threads is a bit OTT, no?!

Just my two penneth.

The tech one has been housed in the technical forum, and is of no interest to anyone but the bands, hence it being shifted out of the way. The reference to that in the sticky on here is merely to direct those who need to know to it, and it will be deleted as soon as those who need to see it have done so. As for the "who's coming" thread, that no longer needs a sticky.

There are several threads about the South American gigs!!!!!

Right, ok, some of you have been waiting for an announcement about the venue.

As you may have gathered from earlier messages and threads, the originally announced venue has proved to be unsuitable. I've gone in search of a suitable alternative, and have been offered a major London venue (that NO have played before). As soon as I have finalised the contractual arrangements with the venue, I will be able to announce it and begin the publicity.

Suffice to say that you will all be able to buy tickets from me - either through postal sales(paying by Paypal) or by giving me cash at one of the NO gigs in October (I'm doing them all).

The event will contain Hooky as DJ, plus sets from Re: Order, Digital, Flight, Jack's Band and some very special guests. Monty will be doing some DJ stuff for us as well, and we hope to raise £2000 for Cancer Research.
