Just an idea lads.... have you lot tried Late rooms underneath life cafe opposite teasers?? Good venue, stage and p.a! I've been to a couple of do's there, one was a love music hate racism event and they seem pretty cool wi stuff like that! prob just depends on bookings?? don't have a contact number tho....

Can you afford to buy his services for the night and not spoil the general idea of this event, which would be a non-profit making event that was giving all proceeds to charity?

personally, I don't think there's much value in paying for hooky's musical services but there does need to be an added brucie bonus. my sense of the event from its initial gestation was that it would be a greater social get together than usual with a neworder/jd/factory/manc/etc soundtrack and (most importantly) some 5-a-side footy! however, only the latter really differentiates it from either of the two events surrounding it.

I don't want to be seen as conflationary as I haven't followed all the progress of the development of the event but I got the sense that the non-profit making and charitable aspect of the process was put forward as a cost effective way of getting gear, venue etc - rather than the 'general idea'. Though I might just be mis-reading your post.

I am probably being quite cynical but I don't think that with the sandwich of two real new order gigs and the accompanying social chaos, that an extended day of tribute music and the charitable angle are the best USPs for the event. that's not to say we can't use those motives and elements in our considerations but there should also be something we can offer up that would make it a singular moment of NOOL...?

I can't see all that much benefit to anyone but Spotnick in holding NOOL Day inbetween two NO gigs - we'll all be fooked after Wembley anyway!

The key considerations with this day, whenever it happens, are the costs. We need a guarantee of bums on seats to get any decent venue, and you know what people are like for saying they will do something and then not bothering. We don't have the luxury of promoters' cash backing us, so we either have to stump up some readies up front or play the charity card.

We'll need something more than a fake Bernard and pals and Jim Reilly Jim Reilly to sell this, in all probability, but whether Hooky would be either prepared to DJ for a lot less than he usually commands, or even with a bunch of tribute bands, will have to be seen. I do have a couple of possibilities, but will keep powder dry until we know how the land lies with venues and timings etc.

The good thing is, if it is in between the Wembley/Wolves dates, most people will try to go. I'll be in London anyway, so it would be pointless for me to come down for one night.

OK, if you can get Hooky free/cheap for the 28th October in London, we'll do it. Provided of course that he will be in the same venue as a bunch of Hooky imitators!

We'd have to charge an entry fee in any case, as even the little things cost, but the bands won't be getting anything but expenses for performing. The plan was obviously to do our bit for Manchester vs Cancer (and indeed other charities too), you'd hope that this would act as an incentive for people to want to get involved.

I for one would be glad to pay towards this do. Only right, with all the time and money spent by others in making this stuff happen.

Obviously it's a long shot, but worth a try. Plus, pre-selling tickets for such an event would be doable via NewOrderOnline of course, but I'll leave that to you, since I'm not a project manager and I'm used to have all kind of crazy ideas and must be brought to world where money doesn't grow on trees ;)

Speaking as someone who has booked Hooky in the past (and a bunch of UK and international DJs over the last ten years) his fee was in fact the lowest I've ever paid for anyone. By a mile. I don't know where everyone seems to be getting this information about him being so expensive. And I was quoted the same deal earlier this year.

What you've gotta remember is that DJ's/artists have one "agent" but often they have multiple "diary holders". In other words there's likely to be a good few agencies/diary holders claiming to represent an artist but in fact they only act as middlemen between the promoter and the agent. They make there money by fleecing the promoter for as much as they think they can get away with. Your always best trying to get straight to the agent.

That aside I don't think booking him for this event would be a good idea. Something doesn't sit quite right about him doin what is essentially a fan club gig.

Absolutely right sir. I would feel even more of a cunt than I usually do up on stage doing Curtis impressions if Hooky was there, and I hate to think what Will's Shakin' Stevens send-up would be like!

Unless you're intending to come along to the Shakin Stevens Online Day that I'm organising, you won't get the opportunity to see that 'send-up'...
