NOOL Day - The Master Thread 28th October 2006 UPDATE 22/08/06

I'll soundcheck you lot last then, that way you walk on to the same mix you checked with, it'll take a little of that first gig stress out of things for you. The more experienced bands will breeze through the first song or so where things sound odd as I get the mix back...unless anyone wants to hire/give us a great big fook off total recall desk...press button, fuck off to bar ;)

As for other things, I would stil love electric drums only for all sorts of lazy reasons (as well as the obvious artistic reason of being able to play without the backline screaming in the red to keep up with the kit). But I'm just as happy with accoustic drums, as long as we can settle on one or two kits. 5 chenges of kit and we'll have no time for music, and the drums will sound perpetually cack. If the stage is big enough, there's not much problem with there being multiple guitar and bass amps. it's easy to swap a draped mic or DI, mains can be an arse tho, the less yanking and plugging of mains plugs on a dark stage the better. And as I have mentioned before, if the keyboard dudes want to send me individual feeds from each keyboard we are gonna need one hell of a big mixing board, I don't mind that, I can do big boards, but it also means bigger bucks, and also creates a requirement for a complex/hard to find, stage box, or a veritable army of DI boxes, each costing 5-10 quid to hire and each being one little bastard of a failure waiting to bugger it all up on us.

i know it is really early to be thinking about some of this, but if we all keep simplisity and ease of change-over in mind from the get-go in terms of technical planning, there will be less screaming and tears on the day :D

There will only be the one kit on stage, it'll be Warren's acoustic kit as the last band on. We'll have two octapad things as well for Insight and She's Lost Control, but no sequencers from us (thank fook, unless we do The Eternal and sequence the shimmery sound at the start), we'll be doing a straightforward JD set with just one keyboard DI input. It's Re: Order who'll have all the kit, but they also know exactly what goes where and what draws what, so it won't be as onerous as you may suspect!

All our effects will be off the pedals rather than a rack effects loop for simplicity and ease of clearance afterwards, and I guess amps are pretty portable too.

Sorted, easy peasy lemon squeezy.

As I say amps are no bother, it's easy to have them all there and just swap the DI's and mics, especially since I am a HUGE fan of dumping the mic over the top of the amp and letting it hang side on, on the speaker grille, sounds daft, but works brilliantly...especially for all you bastards with AC30's, it takes a lot of the shriek out.

I'm looking forward to this, big time, I must confess however to being a little aprehensive at working so far from my "support network", the folks I phone when things go tits up and I need to find a 1000W poweramp at 10pm.

If you give me a wants list on PA gear, (a realistic one!!! ) I will have a scout around for some London PA companies that can provide.

None of us use AC30s by the way! I'm a Marshall man through and through, and my rig will be a Marshall MG100DFX with additional 4x12 cab. Phil uses a Roland Cube, and Jim Reilly Jim Reilly uses whatever he can get his hands on!

Now I need to try to convince the greeks to come.. I'm sure some of the bands out there could help Sophia singing over your music isn't it? :p Crystal, Vanishing Point, Turn, Dreams Never End (although I hope Flight will do us the honors), We All Stand... would be nice ;)

Wishful thinking... the girl is lost in Crete without Internet, so I doubt she'll read this anyways!

Can I suggest splitting this thread? It would seem to be the first port of call and master thread for info updates and such. But there is obviously also a need for a thread dedicated to the more techy, esoteric details of the evening. I say this because I would contribute to that thread but don't want to bore anybody who might be hoping to catch up with information that concerns the larger body of viewers.

Thanks Dave but it was this I was really looking for. Back now, as evidenced by the replies [which, bizarrely, don't register]

The tech one has been housed in the technical forum, and is of no interest to anyone but the bands, hence it being shifted out of the way. The reference to that in the sticky on here is merely to direct those who need to know to it, and it will be deleted as soon as those who need to see it have done so. As for the "who's coming" thread, that no longer needs a sticky.

Right, ok, some of you have been waiting for an announcement about the venue.

As you may have gathered from earlier messages and threads, the originally announced venue has proved to be unsuitable. I've gone in search of a suitable alternative, and have been offered a major London venue (that NO have played before). As soon as I have finalised the contractual arrangements with the venue, I will be able to announce it and begin the publicity.

Suffice to say that you will all be able to buy tickets from me - either through postal sales(paying by Paypal) or by giving me cash at one of the NO gigs in October (I'm doing them all).

The event will contain Hooky as DJ, plus sets from Re: Order, Digital, Flight, Jack's Band and some very special guests. Monty will be doing some DJ stuff for us as well, and we hope to raise £2000 for Cancer Research.
