We made it happen. Money still being counted, and obviously the CDs/DVDs that we make from this will go into the eventual figure, as will any additional merchandise sales, but we are getting somewhere towards the original plan figure, even with the huge and totally unexpected additional venue costs that just landed in my inbox. Hope you enjoyed the sound, it's cost me twice the expected figure! Now we need to ramp the takings up by getting businesses to double and redouble it.

To those who gave so much to be there and contribute, my sincere thanks.

If you work for a major company, tell them about what we have done, use Viking empowerment to make them give us some money. To plagiarise a well-known sportswear manufacturer, impossible is nothing.

Nice post but it should be thanks to you Tim and everyone else who put in the effort, organised Blue Saturday, brought us NOOLers together and gave us a great night on Saturday I'd like to thank. Keep us posted on the CD/DVD as wouldn't mind seeing yourselves (Digital), Re:Order, Pottsy, Hooky and ourselves in action again! Cheers!!

Before i go back to being my usual SILLY self on the other threads can i just say a BIG THANKS to TIM and all the pople who helped organise SATURDAY because it was SUPERB.So much time and effort by TIM but is showed.Also a very warm thanks to HOOKY,POTTSY and the groups for their great music.I am not alone in saying this was a tremendous evening IN BETWEEN DAYS of NEW ORDER MAGIC.Long live ROCK and SAUSAGE ROLLS!

It would be ace to hold this type of event once a year. A lot of people have made good friends thanks to the site and we all need an excuse to meet up for a swally, a few of us started that tradition a few years ago so it would be great to keep it going.

A massive thanks to all the bands, Hooky, Pottsy.......and not forgetting Sarge. But equally as impressive stuff from Tim, Nicos Le Blankos, Monty Python and all the other people who contributed in their own unique way. £1.30 a pint? Let's get the ULU every year, even Rocket Mick bought a round.

Fan get togethers are supposed to be a bit naff, hopefully we've eliminated that myth.......and not one sighting of a fucking Hawaiin t-shirt.

Roll on next year.

Oh yeah, more to the point... Tim , it's every single one of s who should thank you.

We all talked the talk. You walked the walk. Those of us who helped, only followed.

I wonder why I responded to that other bit first EEEEP! nope, I can honestly say that I am no respecteer of red lights, and will cane a system to death if I have to. I've knocked a few into protect mode. But, in all my, I dunno, couple of hundred gigs, I only ever sent one system home stone dead, or even damaged, and that was one, hired to us by a smug fuck with the words "I'll give you this one as it's physically unblowable", for a college gig...it was pathetic, and in the end the head music lecturer kicked me off the desk, lit the cunt oup like a Xmas tree and blew the shit out of it, jst to hear a song he liked. The ULU engineer was a lovely chap and we got on well, so if anything got fucked over it was after ALL the bands had finished, as he was with me at the end of Re Order's set, and said it had all been dead on. If we are talkng damage, my money is on that appalling racket when Hooky's deck fell aprt on him.

hehehe, methinks Cambo doeth protest too much, but I have a newfound reptation as tribute engineer (in that Will told me to turn the sequencer up....the greatest honour of my life....I think, I felt like that poor cunt Ed on PFD for a second....the fact that Will was merely undergoing a bout of in-character tourettes, is neither here, nor there. :lol: Seriously tho, what's the bill, I'm worried :eek:

It was an ace night. Seriously.

My only concern was, where were those 500 students the venue guy promised? it seems almost like a private party for NOOLers... I was saying to myself that can't be good for the cause.. hopefuly this will turn into benefits for the cause.

How can the sound guys actually charge double? Gee...

Nevertheless, if this turns into a yearly event, more people will come each time and it could grow into something interesting, especially since the band might not tour next year.

On behalf of all at FLIGHT (you know the comedy band who were on first)

TIM - you deserve ALL the credit and ALL the plaudits. You worked your nuts off and I know how stressed you were backstage all afternoon. The lack of organisation behind the scenes by the ULU guys didn't help you but you got the job done and made all the bands feel welcome and looked after. Your dedication was unswerving and I hope everyone appreciates what you did for them as much as we do.You sir, are a STAR :bow: :clap:

A HUGE HELLO to the MAD DUO (one Irish guy and one Texan and who's names I sadly fail to remember) who kept me amused during the long and very boring hours of the soundcheck. You guys are very cool and it was a pleasure to meet you both.

DIGITAL - quality JD tribute band. Tim I need your email addy as I have some contacts for you regarding the Hotel California in Birkenhead that we spoke about on Saturday.

RE:ORDER - to be honest, spookily better than the original at times. You guys blew the house down, a pleassure to watch you. We hope to get to play with either of you bands again at some point.

POTTSY - if Paul Weller's ever looking for a tribute band..... seriously they were tight and polished. Certainly showed us mere amateurs (by that I mean Flight)where to get off when it comes to production.

HOOKY was pleasantly droll and sarcastically funny in equal measure - so no change there then I guess. My wife loved the signed CD (although so far she hasn't followed through on the advice!)

All in all a great day and we were privileged to be able to contribute in some small way. Hopefully you made a fair wedge when all is said and done.

Cheers to those who were sympathetically kind to us when we played.

I'll give you a few good reasons why it won't be at the ULU next year.....

500 - number of students I was told would be coming, more if the publicity goes well. Figures calculated on that basis, included projected charity figure. NOOL projection was 200 Vikings, we didn't quite get there (187 with a few tickets still to be returned/cash handed over, we should just make the 200).

9 - number of students who paid to attend (well, 11, but two of them were NOOLers I advised to pay on the door).

There were quite a lot more than 200 in the venue, so unless some people had found a free way in, or had faked a guestlist, something doesn't add up.

I'm not saying anything else on the subject just yet.....

No other way of doing it, you can't squeeze four bands and two DJs into six hours any other way. People had enough advance warning of when the bands were on!

If I could do it all again, it would not have as many bands, or it would become an all-dayer. I felt so sorry for the Flight guys, the only band to turn up on time for the soundcheck, having to wait around while the less professional amongst us had to be rounded up, then having to play to a crowd that were largely in the other room. You deserved better, guys. We'll also have to put a more stringent limit on set length, I almost had to stop Sarge going on and pulling the plug when Re: Order overran...

Right now, I won't be doing another one, certainly not at somewhere like ULU. It'll have to be at a venue that is prepared to use their bar takings as their cut of proceeds, and will take place in Manchester.

TIM - no need to feel anything for us guys , we were happy to just turn up and play, we got a chance to roadtest some of the new album material, hang out with some very cool people and we had a ball. The hanging around is something that will ALWAYS happen mate and nothing can be done about that. The crowd was wandereing in and out - but isn't that what happens to all bands on the first part of a bill? Its no big deal,people are meeting up/getting beers/having a look around - isn't that what you are supposd to do at these things? You can stil llisten without looking (how many people star at the Cd player while the music is on?) We were the only non-JD/NO related band on (for fucks sake we murdered Creep)and as people came for JD/NO then we expected no more or less. Saying that, if asked, we'd do it all again tomorrow for you and more importantly for the cause.

On a different note mate - look forward to hearing your OWN songs at some point and get in touch about the possibility of gigs here in Liverpool/Merseyside.I have one definite interested party.

Maybe the next one should be an all-dayer so you can accomodate everything you want to achieve. Doesn't the Jebez Clegg in Mancland hire itself out all day? I know they take their cut from the bar proceeeds (or used to).

To be honest Tim, if you had an all-dayer you could incorporate a lot of things you may have wanted to do but never had the chance to. Either way, for the next one (whenever that will be) I speak for all at Flight when I say we will be at your disposal if required. You pick your date,time and venue and we'll be there.We actually had some demo cd's there but we forgot to give them out in all the hurly burly (I think Dave may have managed to give one to Hookey).

I've just approached Jabez Clegg with regard to playing there on Easter Saturday 7th April. Re: Order have a Manchester gig the following night as well, so that could boost the attendance and turn it into another weekend of 72 hour party people! And yes of course we'd love to have Flight playing again.

This one will need more organisation though, more people will have to take an active role from further back in proceedings, I won't do it all myself until the day itself again.

The aural bleed-through is a fucking nightmare and it's like two bands playing in the same room at the same time, ie - a total mess.

if you're serious about this - I ought to say at this point that, although we'd like to, I'm not sure how practical it is that re: order could play in manchester on the night before the 8th. the main reasons being that of economics of extending our northern trip (hire costs and accomodation) and the promoters of the 8th might see this as a contractual breach. obviously this entire discussion is very premature and I may well have been presumptive of our intended involvement - but I thought it best to pipe up early with some potential parameters to consider when piggybacking another event onto a re: order gig.

How shall I put this.....NOOL Day 2007, if there is one, won't revolve around Re: Order's commitments, Digital's commitments, or any band's commitments, it will instead by governed by audience and venue availability. It's not a Re: Order gig, or a Digital gig. There may not even be any bands at all, we don't know yet. Easter Saturday was the obvious day to look at as people aren't at work the day before, and the chances are that one or two may be in the area to see Re: Order the next night, which may help boost the attendance.

It may be worth checking the map as well, Heywood is a good ten miles out of Manchester, and any promoter who argues that your playing a charity event ten miles away will negate his chances of making money the following night is a tosser and not worth working with.

Keep a sense of perspective as well eh, it's a tribute band and a pub in Lancashire, not the Millenium Stadium and Oasis!

Maybe Re:Order can work a version of "State of the Nation" into their list with Elkie Brooks on backing vocals? Might be a bit costly tho.....! :crazy:

As I'm sure you could tell from my post, I would not think of dictating when or where the proposed '07day would occur - merely laying out some of the problems that might crop up for us if it did go ahead then and people wanted or anticipated our involvement. None of which may be relevant or realised. You'll understand the nature of the promoter/band relationship is such that quite a few are tossers but far, far more are blind to the value or appeal of the idea of a JD/NO tribute so we're still grateful for the opportunity to play at their venues or events.
The gig in Heywood is a curious one. Recently we had to postpone/re-arrange a booked gig because a separate promoter got the arse about a pre-booked event the preceding night in another (local) town. But this Indie all-dayer is probably not so critical in terms of turn-out and having local events smite enthusiasm for other gigs as there are plenty of other distractions on offer - but it's still one we would like to be able to return to. I'm also sure you know that it's not a case of us having a distorted perspective of our importance - more the inverse as we attempt to maintain interest in the band from a promoter's viewpoint. Reflected in our efforts to stay onside with their expectations and their skewed perspectives. These concerns are most likely moot though.

The main thing tempering our ability to realise our enthusiasm for these 48hr party people events is far more mundane and domestic...

To be honest Tim, I might have misunderstand you at some point, but until friday, I was convinced they would do that themselves and have somebody to manage the shop.

I'm sorry if that went wrong, I have never dealt with them, only with Object, which never caused us any trouble... but if you had a problem with them, I'll gladly try to help, it's not normal you had to pay money for this.

If Manchester is a no-go try the Barfly in Liverpool. Great venue and no knobhead security a la Summer Pops.

Also: Citadel- St helens Slaughterhouse - Liverpool (small venue but great ale and as far as I remember no initial outlay (they take bar proceeds)
