83 -87 was a hot live ticket for the order ,,, shame retro never highlighted this .

1985 was when I really got into NO and started going backwards to JD...so 1984-1989 would be my pick of years. If I can make wishes...how about 1979 to see Ian too! :-)

I watched a New Order concert in Athens just before they split up... I think that the late '80's were their best live period ....

It is interesting question since the band is definitely more raw and punk live (although not as drastically different as JD was). Having never seen NO live sadly, I'd vote for studio since those versions of the songs are superior. If I had the chance to feel/hear the shows live instead of cd I might feel differently.
