Who is coming on this one then? Chances are I'll be there, I'll be booking my summer festivals in the next couple of weeks.

And where is everyone staying?

Ticket are 95 Euros at the moment, Monts. Not sure if that's a genuine 'early bird' price though cos I'm sure they weren't much more than that last year.

Yer Main Firm will be in heavy attendance.

To be honest, I don't give a shit. Have any of this year's other festivals already hinted at line-ups? You often get the same bands doing the 'festival circuit' each summer, don't you?

Actually, I'll be doing some consulting this weekend and making a decison. Line up is unimportant really. They'll be a few bands on who i'll want to see.

I know there is no chance the line up will be better than last year. The Friday was unquestionably the best day of live music i've ever experienced.

Must admit, a decent line-up would make it even more attractive. In addition to seriously cold beer in a sunny, warm country.

Anyone thinking about this should bear in mind that it's not really a festival like you might be used to for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, it doesn't stay open all day. In fact, from memory the thing didn't open until something like 10pm and the bands weren't on until much later than that. The headliners were way into the night and bands were still being timed to come on stage at 4am. So it's not the sort of fest where you chill out on the grass with a beer all day before watching a couple of bands and then get the last train home. Which brings me to the second point...

With the exception of the geezer outside who was selling marijuana cheese on toast, there is no grass in the festival. The site is entirely concrete.

Like any other festival, the beer is warm and expensive and comes in paper cups.

I'll be there with bells on. I love Barcelona and I love going away in large groups to get drunk in the sun and I don't really like sitting on grass. I usually find something to do whilst the bands are on too.

It starts at 6pm and goes to 6am. Tis quality.

There's a great big grassy hill - I know, I went to sleep on it around 7'ish on the first day last year! I think Norbert was snoring!

Festival starts around 6pm and finishes at 6am, so you've got time to chill out until the later bands come on at around 10'ish... Then, time to move! :)

Oh yes! :smoking: :spit:

I didn't know about the hill - sorry.

It's still not an all-day festival and you have to stand on concrete to watch the bands.

I'm not having a go at it. Just saying.

And maybe Mystery Jets, Captain, Belle and Sebastien and Sigur Ros, at a push. The whole line up just reeks of indifference.

Compared to the mighty line up of 07, Arcade fire. Editors, Chemical Brothers, LCD, OMD, James, Kaiser Chiefs, Air, DJ Shadow, The View, Jarvis, etc etc... No contest!

well, i am not a massive Belle and Sebastien fan, and the few times i've seen them have done nothing for me. Never Sigur Ros but i'm not a fan on of them on record.

Conversely, last year the five songs of The View I saw were fantastic. Maybe it was a one off...

This is from their fan club e-mail (I could have pre-ordered tickets for the Royal Albert Hall 2 days before going on general sale...):

No. so I can see all the bands I want to see. I know for a fact I wont be watching The John Lydon Circus so if they stick them on in the tent same time as The Verve suits me down to the ground.

Also might split the corwd, make it easier for me to get down the front.

I'd go see the Pistols cos they've at least written a few proper classics.

Verve is just music for stowdents though, no?

Ain't they gonna have owt 'dancey' on at this thing - Nickos has made a very good choice with Primavera. Is it too late to swap? :eek3:

I'm sure they will get something "dancey." There are still forty odd acts to be announced yet.

Dont thin The Verve is music for students though. Hopefully they'll concentrate on the early stuff (Slide Away, Beuatiful Mind, Gravity Grave, Butterfly etc) rather than the Football Hooligan staqdium rock nonsense. Although I know its not going to happen.

Students and Stoners, I am neither these days, but Lucky Man, Drugs Don't Work and Bittersweet Symphony are modern classics in my book.

You should move up here Dave, the twee scene is massive. Loads of earnest young men and women in 60's retro clothes and make-up swinging their pants to Belle & Sebastien and Camera Obscura. They are affectionatelt refered to as the "Belle-Ends" round these parts.

I would imagine, if last year is anything to go by, that you'll have tp pick them up from the box office. This is, of course, not before the tickets have managed to be lost by the organiser.

Not content with playing the same festival two years in a row, Kaiser Chiefs are also playing exactly the same slot! I.e. 115 am on the mainstage Saturday in Barcelona. Who books this shit?

Sex Pistols are on before them on the mainstage, which is the same slot Jesus and Mary Chain had last year.

The Verve and Interpol are on the Friday. Hopefully on after each other. Primal Shit are also on Friday. Unless they get detained at customs or something, which would be no bad thing!

Hmmm... I suppose the ones at the top must be the two main stages, the smalller writing is the stuff on in the big tent and the otehers in the small tent.

So assuming four acts per day on the two main stages, that leaves six slots open. So maybe some dance acts for Al!

Hotel's not bad, although the bar doesn't open until 5pm, and there's no pool...

It is, however, very close to the beach (about a 5 minute walk), where there are a couple of bars! :)

Oh, and the best bit - the venue is within 10+ minutes walking distance, so no more walking for a couple of hours in Barca trying to locate taxis! :thumb:

However, there's a shopping centre that isn't that far away (the one opposite the venue), and there is a bus stop just up the road, a cashpoint machine virtually next door, and a tram stop about 10 minutes walk away...

Venue seems to have changed slightly, too - I don't remember these pillars? I also hope they replicate the chairs/foodstalls for Summercase (lots more variety)....

And, yeah, I hope they announce some decent acts...

PompeyOrder, Donato and Wolfram all in Der Haus too.

I think Mr & Mrs Danny 'Die Wikinger' are coming as well?

On the subject of food, when we first did this a few years back they had an excellent choice of grub - everything you could imagine, lots of choice. Last year though, they streamlined it down to just chips and er, I think it was a hotdog or burger. AND you had to queue up for about an hour to get served. Ridiculous set-up.

Mind, lots of people seemed to have taken packed lunches in last year!!!

Well, there's a Tourist Bus stop literally just round the corner from the hotel that costs 20 Euros for the day that allows you to go on different routes (Red, Blue, Green), interchanging where necessary... Not a bad ticket, and they all meet up at the Ramblas, so you can go for a beer or two inbetween! :thumb:

And, if you're feeling especially lazy, you can get on the same tourist bus (before 9pm) that takes you from the hotel to just outside the venue! :p

Primavera food:

I honestly cannot remember seeing any food stalls last year. I saw quite a few stalls on the way in, but nothing selling any grub. I remember the bar in the ampitheatre, the bar outside the tent where LCD played and thats it.

If Don is coming I'll have to try and remember those REM DVDs that i've been promising to lend him for years. If I can find them.

So yeah, should be good. As i told Darren last night, my plan is just to get wasted.

Considering they've now got the undercover section (with the pillars), I'd guess that there'd be more variety this year (i.e. the stalls will be in the undercover part and possibly the chairs and tables will also be there)?

Actually, what was the festival New Order played at that site in 2005? That was the year that had really good quality food across a broad range. It wasn't Summercase though.

Summercase started in 2006 - can't remember food that year at all (quick in/out for New Order was all I did) but last year it was diabolical. You'd have thought the Spanish would take a personal affront at having shite food served up at such a festival!

Well, I had a double bed in my room (which wasn't two singles put together)... I just asked at reception for a smoking room (which I hadn't booked at the time, as I was supposed to be sharing with someone else who bought a friend with him and, hence, they booked another room - with twin beds!)...

Oh, btw, there's a great Italian restaurant we found at the shopping centre - really top notch meals (we'd already done the tapas and paella meals earlier on)! Worth visiting, especially since the shopping centre is just opposite the venue! :-)

Got them 2 days after ordering...

Did you go for the outrageous delivery price, or did you go for the (much cheaper) option of picking them up at the festival?

Through LastMinute.com at a bloody good price!

Did they even offer the option of delivery?

Not that I'm bothered, one less thing to remember to pack!

something different: 2007: two tents, two open-air stages 2008: one tent, three open-air stages

I wonder how that is going to work? I can only think of having a small stage for the new bands tent and leaving the tent where LCD played as it was...

I hope so.

The big circular tent where LCD and OMD played was great. You could actually stand outside really near the stage. But the smaller tent was just too small and stupidly hot. You couldn't see or hear anything unless you were willing to watch a band feeling like a sardine in a sauna.

No worries about you staying at the Project house on the Tuesday night :thumb:

How you getting to Luton? Cos I might be able to borrow a car and go to Milton Keyes to pick up Sandra at 8.30 that evening.

Train to Luton via Milton Keynes, arrving in MK at 1917 then arrving in Luton at 2040.

Irish pubs really are the Devils invention. Just places of utter misery. I mean, who the fuck would want to go to Spain and sit in dark, dingy room, listening to utterly SHITE "music" which is just associated with Scallies eating food which has been frozen, and then flown in an dheated up in the microwave and paying over the odds prices for exactly the same drink as you would get in your local.

Fucking shitholes. Burn the lot of them.

Well, obviously.

I've seen Sons and Daughters loads, they were bloody terrible on the Morrissey tour in 2006, but at some point between then and early 2008 they actually became very good.

And they have a tremendously fit lead singer.

Already doing most of the one's you mention on the Friday mate

As for the Saturday, I'll be amazed if I'm at the venue for 5. That's just for weirdo's. Ravonettes are on same time as the Sex Pistols, but I might catch the end of Mogwai's set - depends what time Kings of Leon finish. Cheers for the tips though :thumb:

Well, I'll probably catch Edwyn Collins on the Friday - quite liked the Orange Juice stuff and, of course, "A Girl Like You" (solo)... However, he does clash with Ian Brown (although I've already seen Ian Brown)...

Apart from that, I'll go with Blondie over Interpol, but generally not fussed - will go with the flow! :)

Norbert is never wrong when it comes to any kind of holiday issue.

When I was in Italy on my own last year, I still managed to get updated details of the German train strike. Which of course led to no change of plans whatsoever, and the most hilarious seven hour train journey of all time.

BTW, Norbert: Alex says he is doing you some Verve dvd's for him. Can you bring some blank DVD's for me and I'll give you the money or get you a few drinks. I'm not going to have the chance to get anywhere near a place that sells them now.

Anyone fancy the Nou Camp tour on Friday?

I've tried to book but they only take credit cards, something I dont have.

8 Euro for the museum. 13 Euro for tour and museum.

I'm also planning on doing the bus tour before you all arrive on Thursday. After i've been for a look around the Market.

You can better book, the bus tour for two days. It's nearly the same price and you have a lot of vouchers. I think, noucamp is cheaper, when you do it, with the bus tour. I'm at the airport at 9 and in the hotel at half past 10 am or so on thursday.

I don't bring DVDs with me. We will be there only for 4 days and 3 Nights. I am not going to burn DVDs then, sorry.

Maybe I will go with you, then. I don't believe I can go at 10 am into my room. But it can all change, because I'll fly with Lufthansa and strikes are expected in the near future.

Yup, and the tour bus stop is literally across the road from the hotel... From memory, it cost 20 Euros for the day (not sure over 2 days)...

Oh, btw, there's a premium tour round the Nou Camp - not worth the cash, as you see a really crap film with dodgy graphics that lasts about 10 minutes... Rip-off...

I think its 21 for One day and 25 for two. So i'll just pick upa two day on the off chance. Realistically, come Saturday its probably going to be a case of wake up, get cleaned up and dressed, then go out and get leathered. hair of the dog and that.

Thansk for the info on the Nou Camp Nick. Am i just being better of buying a ticket to the museum? I wouldnt mind having my photo taken inside the actual stadium though...

And this time tomorrow, I will have left! Admittedly, I'll be on a bus to the train station, which is going as far as Milton Keynes before young David picks me up to take me to Luton, but still.

If you mean the photo of you holding up a replica European Cup, then that costs extra anyway... Cheapest option is to get someone to go with you with a camera! :)

Me and John just picked it up and got a couple of sneaky one's with the European Cup when we were there in 2004  Liam yer best bet is a tour with the museum, you get taken to the changing rooms then down the tunnel and upto the dugout, then a wander upto the museum and more chances to walk round the stand, so plenty of chances of picture opportunities.

I dont know why NO ONE adopted the strategy that me and dave adopted the night before. Which was, walk in the opposite direction in which everyone else is going, and sooner or later, a taxi will come along. Took us what? Ten minutes to get a cab?

Alex had me and Janette walking in so many different directions it was ridiculous. A most stressful end to a fine day out.

Dave,

I get in tonight at 1918 tonight. Is their a boozer on or near the station? Never actually set foot in Milton Keynes...
