Just thought I'd say hello as I'm also new to the UK. I've just moved to London from Toronto, Canada and have been a longtime New Order fan since 88 or so. I'm also into a lot of stuff like old Madchester stuff, Depeche, Cure, Smiths, U2, Bjork, and all types of electronic dance music..and I love going to pubs and clubs.

I'm still getting used to the city and would like to meet some fans to hang out with. I saw Peter Saville's show at the Design museum a few weeks back and was really impressed and was fortunate to hear him speak and get my book signed by him.

I'm also looking foward to hearing Tony Wilson speak at The ICA this Wednesday Oct 15 and was wondering if anyone else from this board was going? If so, send me an email at midnightblue456@yahoo.com

Cheers

Hey Vince, Welcome and check out the thread 'London Order Vs German Order' There is a chance I can go to that as well as 'Known Pleasures' next Saturday in Islington.

Is this the Amnesty thing, and Wilson's on with a couple of bands on the same bill? (I assumed he was a compere for the night, and didn't realise he would be talking?).

If so though, I saw an ad in the Standard last night and Wilson's night is already Sold Out.

PS. Vince, are you the Canadien lad who asked a question at Saville?

"Pop pioneer and mancunian hero Tony Wilson shares his hard earned secrets on how to spot the best new thing...and keep hold of them, in this special lunch time talk."

erm... this is the man who turned down oasis isn't it? :)

and the man whose dabbling with band management has been slightly less than successful? and whose 13 year cycle in music predicition fell flat?

now i enjoy listening to him (i saw him last year giving a talk at the ICA I think with Jon Ronsson) but cmon, he has an interesting and eloquent take on things and is a parody of his own image which is what makes him entertaining - but really everything he touches tends to badly wrong (probably down to the whole 80-20 thing).

still also it will probably degenerate like last years one into some f*cking sad sack asking 'what was Ian like?'.

Yes, I was the Canadian lad who asked the question regarding New Order/Saville's artwork which only the fans could appreciate and "get"..

Anyway, I hope you can make it even if the event is sold out..I may be going solo myself!
