Why the no-show for the Reading Festival that year? It did appear to be looming as the gig to end all gigs, though I don't think anyone quiet realised just how long a hiatus they were about to take. . .
To be honest Al I dont much go for the festivals, unlike many on here from what I have read my music taste is pretty narrow...broadly speaking "Northern Bands" and thats about it!! Also the sound from memory at the SECC & NECwas shite,but not as bad as "The Festival of the 10th" - thats from memory, please dont slaughter me if anyone thought different. Also, on a more personnel note New Order were becoming huge, they were always "my" band I cany really knock success but back in those days I was pissed that "kids" were there (selfish I know). Back in the early/mid eighties when they used to play in some small venue,good sound, great atmosphere and a real hardcore of truely devoted fans - god thats what they were about..hope you know what I mean..I am sure you do. Need to have a meeting/beers with you and TIM I did'nt know where the real devotees were until I got on here!

al..was this in or out of the venue...i cant remember any trouble inside...just the strangest crowd i have ever seen at an order gig.

Well I don't remember any trouble actually inside the gig, but there were a few locals outside the side of the venue beforehand looking for trouble with the students, as far as I recall.
I've emailed my brother to check out his ex-Cambridge cronies to see if anyone remembers anything. Most likely they were all so wasted that it could have been the ghost of Keith Moon playing and no-one would have noticed. Stay tuned...
