On the short edit of perfect kiss you can hear Barney's voice start singing the "When you are alone at night.." bit but it is cut off so you just get a very obvious "W..". Never noticed that before but i hear it every time now!
Has anyone else ever noticed anything like this in other songs?
There's so many its difficult to count them all. The most notable howlers can be found on the original 7" singles of the masterful 12" releases... Sub-Culture, Shellshock etc. - get a hold of these fuckers and your guaranteed a nights entertainment... and you can keep your baggy trousers on.
The version of sub-culture on substance has a quite horrifically (is that a real word?) out of time bass line.
What about the general production on Get Ready? Awful. Steven's fine drumming sounds as though it was recorded on biscuit tins. Doesn't seem to have any range in frequency when compared to Technique. Sounds like U2/Oasis but reckon this was a deliberate ploy to target a new type of undemanding listener. Reckon Osbourne did a bad job compared with Arthur Baker's work on Behind Closed Doooooors.
keyboards on TBTHOG are out of tune. Not sure how a keyboard can be out of tune, and I'm certain it isn't my piano.

A lot of it's to do with bad edits - this LP version of TPK is full of them: aside from this obvious one (yeah, I noticed them right from the start - ditto the alarming missed beat "Hold 0n!!"...."KLONK !!!! " bit right at the beginning of the 7" edit of "Shellshock") there's also the bit when the final keyboard climax comes in at the end a tiny split second too early, - you can tell, if you tap out the beat like a metronome, and hear it burst in too soon so to speak. Similarly, if you listen to "Elegia", it's not edited down to 4 min 52 secs for nothing - once again, the last bit right at the end, after the guitars come in, crashes in a split second too early.
Fuck, why are we all being so fucking over-analytical and anal all of a sudden? It must be catching...... :(
Ahh, the glory days of tape edits. A lost art in today's age of digital recording and mixing. It certainly made listening to remixes a lot more interesting.
The Pet Shop Boys reminisced about this in their Alternative interview. One used to have to measure bits of tape and know how long a bar was. Watching it go through the tape machine, you could see all the little white bits where it was spliced.
Apparently, the Latin Rascals used to do edits while watching TV. They'd measure and cut and tape while their eyes were pointing at the TV.
