I only recently got to see the "Here are the Young Men Video".

I think that Ian's Dancing is superb, not Textbook but its just brilliant. He brings out his emotions and all in his dance.

Same opinion as mine when I was 15.

It's true. He was a mad dancer (literally?). Good stuff. I give him an A for effort.

Yes. Your point being? I think anyone in a tribute band should have listened to all live material available and watched every minute of live footage in existence even before thinking of forming the band. "Here Are The Young Men" is something really basic that you've overlooked for a long time, I guess.

Primarily because there is no way you can do either yourself or the original material/artist justice without knowing where they were coming from. Any fooker can get on stage and play a Joy Division song. Playing it authentically is another matter, and an essential attribute for a tribute band to have. That involves knowing the songs really well in all formats for a start !

With respect to the starter of this thread. I would say the "Here Are The Young Men" video is hardly easy to come by. You wont find it in HMV!

I've kept out of this so far and it probably is none of my business.

What is this are you the tribute band Nazi? Do you want them to sound as JD were in a particular time. Surely tribute bands can choose to interpert the music any way they choose. Don't forget that all bands change their sound over time. Do you want them to pay homage to just one particular point in JD's history?

Having said that, yes it is a good idea to look at all the material out there, but you can't perscribe other people what to do.

I haven't even seen the whole video of HATYM yet and I call myself a serious JD fan. Anyway, it doesn't seem important to see the band playing live on video unless you plan on copying their moves. Since I certainly hope none of you in tribute bands embarrass yourselves trying to copy them (esp. Ian's dancing), why the fuck should it really matter as long as the music sounds right? (Maybe some of you in tribute bands are trying to be like those Cure tribute bands that have singers who dress up like a certain made-up porker?)

well heres an eye opener. i whapped hatym in the vid the other day whilst i was doin some odd jobs around the house whilst the missus n daughter was out doin some christmas shopping. i popped my head around from time to time to watch ect.

then in comes the missus ect.

1st time daughter has seen jd in action (heard em loads but first time ect).

rolls around on floor laughing, hitting carpet with one fist and pointing at screen with other hand.

in her defence she is only 12,so i clipped her around the ear and told her to grow up LOLOLOL

Err.....the singer of this band does try to copy Ian's moves and the music doesn't sound right, that was the whole point of this !!

i guess with ian's dancing there was an air of seriousness about it considering his suspected epilepsy, medication and hectic life. in my eyes it doesnt stop it being funny (probably because im a sadist).

Do u know what the word Tribute Means Reg bummer/unheard pleasures(Yet to hear your graet tribute still). So quit with the obsevive bullshit.

A tribute is paying Homage to those in Question, Dont mean you gotto copy em down to a T.

To answer this one Brain, I actually had never heard of Joy Division Until May/June this year. I was sent 4 songs by our singer and that was it, i was hooked, So i had only heard 4 songs b4 Joining the band.

So What does it matter?

1. Dont wan a speak like queen, can spell just like typing quick.
2. Use it? Dont do requests 3)Have done, sound poor, especially vocals. + They were recorded in studio were they not. Any fooker can go in a studio and record it. On stage its 1 chance saloon which you obviously have no experience of otherwise you'd have a diff opinion. 4)My tongue was far in to my cheek.
