Anyone remember this film from the 80's ? It has several New Order songs on the soundtrack.

Yes, I will actually go on record and state that I _like_ this movie, even if Hooky has gone on the record...see http://www.new-order.net/no/audio/iv/861212peter_hook_wras_fm_atlanta.mp3 to state that he didn't care for it. Tosser. :-)

The third film of the John Hughes-directed Ringwald trilogy, the first two being Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, with Jon Cryer, James Spader (his performance is sublime), Annie Potts, and Harry Dean Stanton (who we should have seen more of). I think Wax Trax in Chicago also makes an appearance, as do three superb Order songs. Yes, that includes Shellshock, which in my view seems to take an unfair ribbing.

Ah yes - a nice feel good film (still got it on vid!).

I was 16 when it came out and found myself really empathising with Jon Cryer's character (Duckie?). Who can forget him cycling past Molly Ringwald's house, or his mimed singing scene in the college hallway, or at the ball when the girl catches his eye (with OMD's "If You Leave" playing?).

I must watch it again soon - it's been a while...!

And wasn't the soundtrack chosen before the film was written - or something...?!

Admit it Julio, you know you want to. You are still wanking over pictures of Molly Ringpiece or whatever her name was.

I believe SHELLSHOCK was written purely for the movie the Stephen Hughes said that he did not want it but used parts of two older tracks. Then once those had been installed he decided he did want SHELLSHOCK. Quite a popular movie if I remember and it is also worth nothing that NO must have made a tidy sum from the experience. Initial Bums on seats followed by Videos, DVD's, CD's etc will ensure a annual pay check.

Nice work if you can get it. DM

Shellshock was great too - fitted the movie very well. I never understood the attitude of quite a few people who slagged the song off and who lambasted the band when they wheeled it out live - the debut at Warrington was excellent, as was the version at Oxford a few weeks later. I always thought it was a great live track. Wish I could sequence it and we could do it, but I ain't got time !

I saw the movie when I was 14, before I was a NO fan. I did like the soundtrack, although I didn't know who played on it until about 3.5 years later. The movie was decent, I liked it better than 16 candles, but it wasn't as good as the Breakfast Club. And, at the time I thought Duckie was really cool, which, because of that, I pretty much attempted to dress like him during my first 2 years of high school, although I never wore a bolo tie, since it reminded me of Lyle Lovett.

NO aside, I love the bit where Ducky mimes to "Try A Little Tenderness". I'm a sucker for this film - i would go so far as to place it in my all-time Top 10. How sad is that?

Theives Like Us had a big scene in the movie although it did not make the official soundtrack. As for the movie, its kinda embarassing IMHO.

That avatar needs to be larger!

Soz webmaster - didn't mean to get the wrong side of you!

My defence lawyer has summarised my case above and I can only apologise that my original avatar didn't "fit in with community guidelines" - hope this is a "little more proper".

So - what censorship is in place on the "Most beautiful person in the world" thread in the off-topic forum...?!

Is that Gemma Hayes in your avatar? Now SHE's a fox.

John Hughes is a cunt, tho', and all his films are Reaganite wank. Fact.
