Does anyone else here get any satisfaction in being into a not-well-known (at least by American pop culture standards) band? This applies mostly to Americans, because I envision the UK as having a decent amount of NO/JD fans. If it weren't for Taboo # 7 and the like, I would be convinced that I am the sole NewOrder/Joy Division fan in the US. What I mean by satisfaction is that you enjoy the weird vacant stares you get from some people when you talk about New Order. I love it. I love quoting/singing lines like "Oh, you know what I need! Yes you do!" in my best Barney voice.

It's kind of like that over here as well, if you mention New Order, you always get some twat mentioning that Blue Monday is the only decent song and then saying they split up years ago...Which really pisses me off 
Or how about irritation when a former well-known local band here in Oregon, the Dharma Bums, walk out of a NO show half way through on the Technique tour? I'd never cared for them particularly before, but as they were in the row ahead of me, they instantly rose to the top of the list of bands to be scorned without mercy.
At least in Portland there is a sizable contingent of NO fans, but down here in the valley in a small city all bets are off. When buying the US single of Crystal (at Target, unfortunatley), the young male clerk looks at the disc and wants to know about the band. Something started rising inside of me, but when I made mention of Blue Monday, and he replied, "oh, that Orgy song", I just put my head down and walked out of the door silently.
To answer your question Jason: yes, definitly! And it only enforces the feeling that I am a bit apart of the crowd, that I am not one of the herd.

I think I'm lucky coz the people I knock about with and work with tend to like the Order. I spent the couple of weeks before seeing them at Brixton telling everyone about it and the general reply was 'is it sold out yet?'

i know how u feel shug. even those of my mates whom i consider to be pretty clued up about music have gaping holes in their knowledge when it comes to new order (or stupid misconceptions.."new order? werent they boring accountant types?"). and its fucking frustrating when your friends dont appreciate something that you`re really in to, particularly as i ended up missing all the recent gigs cos none of my bastard mates would come with me.

Wow. I didn't expect so many people to agree. I used to get pissed when some ignorant fuck would talk about 'how groundbreaking Orgy's Blue Monday was.' My best friend owns all the 'Now That's Music' CDs. Imagine the horror of our summer road trips. I've tried many times to get him into NewOrder, but to no avail. I've had some success with my little brother, but for the most part, I just keep NewOrder to myself.
