Most under-rated Joy Division song

Everyone's got their real favourites, as the votes are showing on Slippy's "Deducing" threads, but which are the songs you like that you feel don't get enough recognition as being masterpieces ?

Well at least one of these songs has had a cover version done , so it aint a true list of under appreciated ditties

It just struck me when we were voting for Still - that there were at least ten songs that I like a lot that nobody would ever vote for when they had competition with Transmission, Atmosphere and LWTUA, yet everyone likes them. The Only Mistake is one of me all time faves of all time, grayde mayde. Never gets much of a mention though. Didn't even warrant inclusion on your poll.

Shit you're right. Had intended to put that one instead of Ice Age, as Ice Age is doing well on the Still poll. There you go, doubt it's my only mistake today !

I've always liked "These Days" as far as the songs on the list go.

I voted for Wilderness as this never seems to get mentioned, apart from by the overly enthusiastic person who was standing next to the taper at the Newcastle gig!

Insight. For the same reasons I gave in the NO thread. Those BBC sessions were damn fine. You have to have a fine Hi-Fi set up mind you. If you haven't, hang your head in shame.

These Days for me - really spot on when you get to the guitar solo section

Means To An End... one of the rare JD songs which in its studio guise far surpasses its live incarnation!

Er...The Only Mistake should be on there. Sorry to say it again, but it is one of their best songs.

Went for Insight, but if it were my choice, I'd go for Digital. Awesome track that doesn't get mentioned nearly enough (though thankfully NO thought enough of it to play it live for the last few gigs of the 2002 tour - presumably as a result of its appearance in 24HPP).

Of the others listed, These Days and Colony (Peel) would be very close contenders.

Of that lot, with a number of album tracks, I find myself giving These Days short shrift in the JD catalog, unless I play the 45 of LWTUA or listen to Heart And Soul in its entirety.

I played the Substance CD the other day in my vehicle and I cranked up "No Love Lost!" My hubby was like, 'What the Hell is that?" I love it along with "Failures." I also think "Ice Age" is great as is "A Means to an End" and "These Days."

Tough choice for me between "Insight" and "Autosuggestion". I went with "Autosuggestion" because I think it is even more underrated and would get less votes. That's fair I think considering at this time I'm the only one who's thrown a vote its way. Then again I think here in Canada ALL of Joy Division is underrated.

These Days definately. The rarity of a B side almost as good as the A side. Although not listed Novelty wasn't too far behind.

Interesting one this. Most of these aren't actually unappreciated (as posts above confirm) their just not as appreciated as the more obvious JD tracks.

These Days is obviously ripe for reappraisal - in MOJO a couple of issues back Jon Savage did a two CD post-punk compilation in which he included These Days, saying that it hinted at "a future brutally curtailed". I always liked the lyrics on "From Safety To Where" too.

Perhaps the most unappreciated is "The Drawback", since the band themselves didn't appreciate it enough to re-record it for Unknown Pleasures (actually it wouldn't have fitted in at all well).

Insight. I've always loved that song.
