On the subject of soundboard recordings I have a tape of a 1983 radio interview from Toronto CKLN. On that there are a number of soundboard quality recordings from more than one gig. The 'funhouse bastards' version of Confusion is from NY 1983 but also on the tape is EGG, Hurt, Chosen Time, Temptation, Blue Monday, Leave me alone and Thieves like us. Blue Monday doesn't use the same choice lyrics as were used at NY and the set list and tape list don't match. The tracks are interspersed with a phone interview with Steve Morris so I don't think these tracks are added onto the radio recording.
Does anyone have any idea where the other tracks come from and why, given the comments over bootleggers, the band would 20 years ago give a whole gigs worths of soundboard recordings for public broadcast?
