Perish the thought, but if there was no New Order, which band would you listen to the most and go to see live.
I think I'd probably say The Charlatans, because they keep putting out great albums and they are brilliant live.

Judging from the number of album and discs in my collection, it would be Nick Cave. Why? I've listened to him almost as long as NO, he puts out great albums, and has a great backing band with the Bad Seeds. Lots of proverbial fingers in a number of musical pies with this lot. Blixa with Neubauten, Martyn with the Triffids, Conway with his session work and solo stuff, and main man Mick Harvey, also as session man and producer, trying to keep the whole affair "straight", as it were, for the drug usage of Mr. Cave has been well chronicled.
Ugh! Ugggh!! Not Nick Cave. Pur-leeeeze. He's SO overrated here in UK. Every blip and fart he comes out with is unanimously praised to the skies by the sycophantic music press here. Truly they have never ever licked the arse of anyone as much as they have done with Nick Cave. A sacred cow just waiting to be shot down.
Sorry, Nick Cave is cack - a terrible singer as well , and he sports a mullet (a heinous crime in itself) - he should be banished to room 101 - SHUG, what do you say?
And on that ......yawwwwwwwwnnnn...note :sleepy: I'm banishing myself to bed - I'm knackered from getting back from Amsterdam this morning and I've not slept properly for nearly 24 hours........
Goodnight - catch you all tomorrow for more filth and fury.

Monaco :D
Which band other than NO? Well, I know my choice is far too 'common'...and they are everywhere, overated, etc...but I think they are very professional and genuine in their work...I mean to say the other band is ....U2!!!!
Though I've never really checked their websites much...but I have a huge collection of their music and I consider them second to NO...anyway they were inspired by JD, weren't they?
The Boo Radleys, even though they don't exist anymore.
I agree with you on Nick Cave, Martin... For a change... ![]()

Dunno if yer taking the piss Muffy, but the guy that played banjo is a distant relation of mine!
Oh my...if there was no New Order I might just have to do myself in....but if this were so, I guess I would have to say Moby...seeing as he is the only artist I have seen live more often than New Order...
placebo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! though i expect everyone else here will no doubt tell me how crap they think they are. the manics come a close second.
It's very hard to imagine listening to anything instead of New Order... But let's say I had never heard of them, then I'd probably still be listening to whatever I was listening to before I heard of them... and that would in this case be Blur. :)
But if someone came and took all my New Order records so I had to listen to something else... I don't know what I'd listen to the most... Nothing can replace New Order!
REM, Radiohead, Bowie, Iggy Pop, Morrissey, Lou Reed, Beastie Boys, and Weezer would be my choices of people are acts that are still around. As for the past, well, too many to list here, but Joy Division and the Who would be near the top...

Shugster, it is with great sincerity that I mention the greatest exponents of 'Northern Soul' ever to come out of, erm, the Midlands! Yes indeed, the fabulous Dexy's Midnight Runners have been a massive influence on my life and surely would make it onto a list of my top five all time faves, and no mistake. What was the geezers name by the way? When was he in the band?

Muffster, his name was Kevin Adams, but because Kevin Rowland was the singer, he changed his name, because they didn't want 2 kevins in the band..for the life of me, I can't remember what he changed his name to!

Cheers Klumpy!! Too nice of you really.......I prefer it when you slag me off!!! ![]()
My other bands would also be The Boos, but for the same reason as you GK.
Existing bands I'd have to resort to are my second and third loves SAINT ETIENNE and STEREOLAB
Both damn fine. Both GODLIKE . (Sarah Cracknell is a true babe
....and I've kissed her once or twice - on the lips!!! - utter heaven, how could I ever wash my mouth again after that???!!!
)
And Stereolab because, they never let me down - always coming up with the goods. And their latest album
Sound-Dust is well and truly lush. Any other Stereolab admirers here?

Actually...I just got to thinking about it again...and if not for the influence that the order has had on me, I would probably be buying Britney Speared and n'stink albums, and worshiping Michael (No, I really am Diana Ross, and my favorite past time is blowing bubbles) Jackson as the king of pop...so count myself as one who has been saved from this mediocrity by the order!!
Probably one of these Monaco The Ukrainians/The Wedding Present, great live bands. or Leftfield
