Hi All

I'm new to all this and thought I'd better say hello.

As a little topic idea who at present would you like to support NO, and why?

I think mine would be a little strange, and go for Belle and Sebastian 'cos they at least have some tunes.

Any offers?

Welcome Jonhatan. I've been lucky enough to see New Order supported by Doves and Gabrielles Wish, so I couldn't ask more... well, maybe the Pixies, while reforming, could co-headline the bill... :)

And the answer is: The Cure. A nice, long, low-energy (read: boring) set of whiney music right before NO comes onstage and busts the fuck out some mad beats (as they say in California).

I couldnt have the Cure as support, as I would fall asleep and miss New Order

Ideal support for me would be Stockholm Monsters or ACR, not least because that would transport us back to 1985 ! Probably The Fall, of those bands currently available.

Probably some of the groups people wanted have already appeared with New Order re 08.02.1986. What a night..

Been a lot better if they'd turned it into a full day event, and not truncated the sets to 40 minutes each.

From what I can remember I don't think Bernard could have lasted any longer than 40 minutes! Which leads me to a question. Did The Smiths ever appear with NO before or after the aforementioned gig?

Hey, I seriously think having Stuart & Co. supporting is a very good idea.

Belle & Sebastian is one of the most refreshing acts to come into the pop music world in the last 5 years ( well...I only got to know them when the 'Boy Arab Strap' album came out.... )

I've got their DVD - 'For Fans Only' and I think New Order should put out a DVD like that....the set up of the DVD allows the viewer to watch the clips either chronologically or randomly with tales and vignettes in-between, all woven together like a long story...EXCELLENT.

...unfortunately, they've lost 2 crucial members - the other Stuart to LOOPER & the ever so sweet & sexy Isobel...:(

i'd like to see british sea power OR interpol supporting new order, but people might say they're both trying to be joy division too much, however it would get the crowd going a heck of a lot.

belle and sebastian seems interesting :D:D:D i'm a very big fan. got all their albums

...which, tragically, ain't ever going to happen. Met Robin Guthrie at a gig a few years back and he told me in no uncertain terms that a reformation was a definite no-go. I think things between him and Liz are still very tense since the split (both as a couple and a group), and hence the lack of release for posthumous archive goodies that allegedly exist (like the two-thirds of an lp they'd put together before they broke up).

Re: the opening post - I really don't think the shy and retiring Belle & Sebastian would have much hope in front of a lairy, lagered-up New Order crowd!!!

Dont really care about support bands, the anticipation of seeing the order means they are more of an irritation than anything else!!

Festivals are slightly different but then again so is the atmosphere.

I reckon PSB could get the night started, the drift into an Electronic section with the above couple of songs before hitting the good stuff at the peak of the show. And maybe Hooky could pop up for a bass solo in west end girls....
