HA! (Robert Smith joins Hooky on new project)

Saw this on the Chain of Flowers Cure site:

Hooky's new Stalingrad/Freebass project is expected to include a collaboration with Robert Smith (amongst others).

"Mani from Stones Roses (and Primal Scream), Peter Hook from New Order and Andy Rourke from The Smiths have decided to work together. The band would be called Freebase or Stalingrad, and an album would be out in april with collaborations from Robert Smith, David Sylvian and Will Oldham."

What you all think of that, then? Maybe Bobbers and the Hookster kissed and made up over their mild band rivalry. Now you may start making jokes about this being the worst side project ever.

Fat bob has always been a JD fan and after the last Cure album I think he's taking some time to have a go with some colaborations.

The weird thing you guys have missed is tyhe though of Bob playing his 6 string bass alongside Hooky wouldn't that be strange!!!???

Incidently, I wasn't aware there was a rivalry between the Cure and New Order...

The only rivalry is on between this site and the Cure's sites. Can't we all just get along? Why can't people just say "I don't like the Cure" instead of going into all kinds of fits over why they think the band sucks? Obviously they have been doing something right for the past... um 25 years. I have always thought they were something special. In some ways like the Order - esp in the moody music category, stuff to listen to while driving at night or laying in bed when you can't sleep.... like right now. Even if I did not like the Cure, I would appreciate them. Is like how I feel about Prince... I don't care for his music, but he is one of the most gifter musicians on the whole planet. Is considered a master of like 13 different instruments. Some of his stuff is great (like Purple Rain), and a bunch of his stuff I cannot relate to - pretty much everything since.

Isn't the whole joke that there really _isn't_ any "NO vs. Cure" controversy. Every time it's been brought up in the past few years, it's been all metadiscussion.

It's well documented that NO accused Fat Bob of ripping off Everything's Gone Green for Boys Don't Cry. I also remember a Cure interview in the NME from around the release of Technique where he responded that All The Way was a note-perfect rip-off of Just Like Heaven (he had a point, it was probably a deliberate piss-take). It all sounded a bit overwrought and like sour grapes at any rate.

Glad whatever feud there was is over, it appears. It was 15 years ago, eh?

And Dreams Never End was a deliberate rip-off of In Between Days, depsite being written two years before the Cure released it ! yeah.....

Some Cure tunes are alright, I suppose, but mostly they're pretty naff, don't you think?

Actually, DNE was from 1980 and Inbetween Days was from 1985, if I recall correctly. But I'm splitting thin things....

Boys dont cry is from 80 and everything's gone green is from 81. It couldnt be ripped off.

boy's dont cry was actually written in 1978 but whatever. this new order vs. the cure thing gets way too much attention. the good juicy stuff is morrissey vs. robert and the shit they used to say about each other. example: "the cure- a new dimension to the word shit" (Morrissey). i love the cure, but that is still very funny.

..and Sunrise was a rip off from A Forest ( not ). I remember an interview with Steve & Gillian saying one of their favourite songs was Charlotte Sometimes. The plot thickens.
