Fac63 is quite simply the best song ever written, and the version on Taras is fast becoming my favourite.
Does anyone have any other early versions that they could kindly email me? (insert 'pleading' smilie here:)

you need one of the segue versions too, when they did 586 / everything's gone green and temptation in one fantastic sequence (try bradford 84 for one)

The original Temptation rules! A good raw sound. The singing on the original Confusion is not as good as the Substance one but it kicks its arse!
Always remember my extreme disappointment on buying 'Substance' to find temptation had been re-recorded. The original is untouchable, and the Taras version 'rawks'.

I agree that the 87 version is perhaps more 'polished', clearer and truer to the live version - however, does that make the track "better"?
The original, with 'real' sounding drums and the primitive synths/sequencers, and of course Barney's more deadpan delivery make it more appealing - the beauty of it is of course in the eye of the beholder!
The 87 version was the first I heard, so to me it is the original. Same goes for Ceremony and Confusion.

to be honest sometimes I think they have gone backwards in this area orson welles style (start with citizen kane...end up doing campari adverts, well maybe not) they were far more exiting and adventurous in the early days than later. barney's guitar playing in JD compared to later when it's a secondary thing (what with singing an' all), hooky's intense bass playing in the early days relegated to a three note fill in mainly electronic tracks....I could go on but I'm sure no one cares.....that's not to say I don't like the later material it's just that the earlier stuff is a lot more, well just more....
I tend to prefer the band when they are performing at the peak of their powers after practice and fine tuning, but of course each to their own which is what makes music so appealing and creates such discussions :)
