SLOW JAM - Funky Chicken or Dead Duck??

OK fettlers, in a straight no holds barred contest of as many rounds as it takes we're gonna fight this one out! Why is it that so many normally sane people HATE this magnificent 'rock fest ' of a song? I think it's one of the best on the album, indeed perhaps THE best. Many of you hate it, why? Who else loves it, why? Let's get it on!!

Not a fan in the slightest. it stops all the momentum of the album after the magnificent Primitive Notion. Barneys voice is too dominant and doesn't suit his style. The lyrics are terrible, they don't work and lack humour. It stinks

Muffy, since you started this, I think you should begin by explaining why you like it.

I like it because it's an upbeat rockin tune, mumbo jumbo meaningless lyric, it's New Order enjoying themselves. It rocks!

I've got nothing against 'Slow Jam' per se. It's just that, when I play the album, it's the moment I don't pay attention anymore.

I just don't care for that song, that's all.

After seeing it get trashed by all these so-called New Order/Joy Division fans, I listened to it yet again, trying to figure out what possibly could be wrong with it. And after I listened to it again, I said to myself, "Nope. They're completely wrong. This is really good." I don't see what's so terrible. And what's amazing to me is that we could differ so much. I mean, here I think it's the best song, while others say its the worst. Go figure. And as far as that "arithmetic" line is concerned, I think it's funny. I laughed the first time I heard it. Go Barney.

Actually I now enjoy it. When I started my business I managed my own accounts so when it came to the 'real world' I had to do it. At school though, I was good at English and poor at Maths. Yes, i've seen it. It's dull as fuck, in fact the only post I ever made on it was telling the buggers to wakey wakey. At least here the general banter usually keeps things interesting, and with the assembled cast of characters a laugh is always assured. I used to Yahoo chat quite regularly but the feckers on that are all intent on insulting you and have absolutely fuck all to say. This forum is the best i've come across, lucky for me it's New Order based.

To me Seb, 'Ode To A Smelly Outhouse' has too much of a Primals influence on it. Not that I dislike the Primals, au contrere, I just don't want them on an Order album. I think the two offending articles have a similar sound to them though.

I think I should add though that the version of 'Rotten Shag' on the BBC session was really skankin, infinately better than the album version.
